Reviews of 5th ave
mancs best alternative experience
Review of 5th Avenue by
blondey1979
Advantages: cheap beer, awesome music, great nostalgic atmosphere
Disadvantages: quite dark and dingy, but hey, that's what indie clubs are meant to be like!
...the hacienda was notorious in manchester for many years,. After its demise, 'manc' music carried on. with a vengeance and the indie revolution was with us to stay.
5th avenue continues to proviide many people with a quality night out., providing a wide array of music to cater for most 'alternative' tastes.
located close to town, 5 mins walk from oxford road, where the buses run 24 hours, the location is good. It is down the road from canal street where the gay community socialise, but you won't find many gays here!
5th ave is legend amongst students and weds has always been student night where the drinks are dirt dirt cheap. (you will get hammered on bottled stella or cheap vodka, guaranteed!).
The outside doesn't look too appealing, as it is merely a silver door with the name sign above it. The bouncers are pretty scary and won...

best indie club in manchester
Review of 5th Avenue by
cath123
Advantages: cheap, great music
Disadvantages: a bit dull decor
...tasting. (Although the Vodka and Redbull drink comes highly recomended, and is only £1)
5th avenue is an excellent alternative to 'townie' clubs such as infinity and picadilly 21's. The music is more indie, cheesy 80's and 60's/70's music like the Beatles, Blondie etc, and a few dance tunes. One word of warning though, 5th ave regulars have a joke that the DJ, Ade, has only one tape as the songs he plays are usually the same on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. His usual mix is something like 2 stone roses songs, 2 charlatans, 2 oasis, a beatles medley and always 'Killing in the Name of' by Rage against the machine. This of course is fine if you like this stuff but stay away all steps followers, garage lovers, and opera fans!
A tip for girls, lads usually outnumber the girls by around 4 to 1, so its a pulling heaven for us...

The popular new york art gallery
Review of Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum by
kenny8
Advantages: Looks good from the outside. Fine in you like art this much.
Disadvantages: Boring.. Boring.. Boring.. (sorry but it was)
...The Guggenheim museum in NYC is situated by the east side of Central Park, that is 5th Ave, on 89th st.
When I went to new york last year, we arrived late on saturday, so Sunday was the first day in which to explore the city. After picking up lots of leaflets and a virgin city guide book, we decided to head to central park first, then bloomingdales, then onto the Guggenheim museum. These were all situated relatively near to each other.
The museum looked specutacular from the outside with a circular kind of building being the main part of this modern architectural building. It is more of an Art gallery than a museum.
For those Art lovers out there I'm sure you would have a great time looking at all the picasso and other artists (none I've heard of!). But for me it was so boring... a complete waste of a couple of hours.
We paid...

Great stay overall
Review of Novotel New York, New York City by
coolclog
Advantages: Location Location
Disadvantages: Staff
...The Novotel Is in a great area litteraly one block from times square. the lobby is nice as is the bar area. rooms are spacious, clean, tidy and bathroom is also nice. The room has all the necessary amineties. The only fault with the hotel is that when someone across the hall from us ordered room service the tray stayed there for 2 days. We stayed here for 5 nights and thought the location was amazing, staff could have smiled though! The breakfast seemed like a waste of money as when you walk out the hotel and turn right there is a fab cafe that does amazing cheap breakfasts! All the sightsare easy to get to with great subway service. To eat dinner I recommend Ruth Chris for an amazing (yet expensive) steak meal. The hard rock in Times square is also fab. Dont forget all your money for the amazing shops, 5th Ave, Macys, Bloomingdales...

Everything On Your Doorstep!
Review of Edison Hotel, New York City by
coolclog
Advantages: Great Location
Disadvantages: Nothing!
...Square (if you tilt your head to the right!). The bathroom was adequit size with toilet, bidet, bath with a shower on the bath, again very clean
The hotel has asmall gift shop with the usual I heart NY stuff and key rings etc, unlike some hotels they were reasonably priced.
Tye hotel also has a diner attached which was lovely for breakfast, helpful staff and great food. Pancakes esspecialy nice! and was very cheap.
Location
West 47th Street, on Broadway. The Beauty and the Beast theatre was actually attached to the hotel on the next street. Steps from Times Square. Around a 2 minute walk to the nearest subway station to go all over NYC. About 10 minute walk to Macys and Madison Square Garden and 15 minute walk to 5th ave and Empire state building. Cabs are cheap and easy to get from outside the hotel.
Overall.
We paid 700 pounds each (2...

Woosshh to the Top of the Rocks!
Review of Top Of The Rock by
DeniseKelly40
Advantages: can c the empire state building and a cheaper option
Disadvantages: can b cold in march time
...I stumbled against this wee gem by accident and really glad I did! Its at the Rockerfela centre the main entrance is 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. Its open between 8am to midnight. To get up to the observatory deck you go up an elevator which goes whoosshh (it goes so fast it makes u ave butterflies)!
Once at the top you can c da same type of views as you do at the empire state building however in my opinion they are more breathtaking. The observatory is on the 70th floor, 850 feet up in the sky. You could c central park but as I went up at night this view wasnt as clear as what it would have been during the day. You can see for miles in every direction as there is 360degree panoramic views. You can see the northern half of manhattan that cannot be found anywhere else. Other landmarks to be seen are Times Square...

The final chapter in Ave Maria's story
Review of Milk Glass Moon - Adriana Trigiani by
Agglida
Advantages: A light read that will keep you fully entertained
Disadvantages: Difficult to get into if you haven't read the previous two
...The story of Ave Maria Mulligan MacChesney which began with Big Stone Gap and continued with Big Cherry Holler comes to a conclusion here. The characters and plot are as well drawn as ever, and you feel fully involved in their lives. We live with them the full range of human experience and emotion, from first love and the birth of a child through the trials and tribulations of a marriage to the finality of the death of a loved one.
All your favourite characters are back - Ave Maria herself and husband Jack MacChesney - still very much in love despite their somewhat frustrating ability to discuss this or any other issue. Also back is their daughter Etta, and much of the book centres around her struggle to deal with the traumas of adolescence and the problems Ave Maria has in parenting her through this. Also back for more are Ave Maria...

Review of Championship Manager 03/04 (PC) by
michaelkirby
Advantages: brilliant all round!
Disadvantages: if there is a down side i cant see it!
...Quite simply the greatest ever football management sim! Simple as that! Whilst more recent versions (Football Mananger 08 etc) may have more detail this game offers more in terms of playability and is the most addictive game ive ever played! the layout is basic but effective making it navigation easy and is easy on the eye! I have played 1000's of hours away on cm03/04 and im still not bored of it! .... Im currently playing a game with Nottingham Forest and im in my 5th season! I have won 2 FA Cups, 1 Lge Cup & 1 UEFA Cup.... Great Shop
Review of Macy´s (New York) by
coolclog
Advantages: Everything Under One Roof
Disadvantages: Can get very hot in store
...First off a trip to NYC is not complete wihout a visit to Macys, Its a shoppers paradise. This store is the biggest department shop in the world so you may need to set a few hours aside to cover everything depending on how you like to shop.
The shop is on West 34th street and is a short stroll to the shops of 5th ave and the empire state building, its almost opposite madison square gardens and again about a ten minute walk to Times square and the theatre district. The subway is also across the street so it easy to find and get to.
Depending on which entrance you use depends on what department you enter the store. All cosmetics are on ground floor with all the well known names, MAC, BENEFIT, DIOR, etc at a fraction of the UK cost and from my own experience cheaper than the duty free at airorts. Ladies bags are also located here...
