PINs are coming...
Review of Chip and PIN by
Kianastar
Advantages: Much better security, faster transactions
Disadvantages: remembering your numbers
.... It's a great idea, and works very well. I'm not sure if this option will become available in the UK - it may still be necessary to have separate cards for separate accounts.
Credit cards are swiped in a similar manner, but the owner is asked to sign the slip, as in the UK. Banks are starting to introduce PINs for credit cards now, and you usually have the option of using a PIN or being able to sign for purchases. A purchase using a debit card is usually much faster, as the purchaser merely punches in their 4-6 digit PIN rather than having to sign.
Many people have said that it is difficult to remember different numbers for different cards. Unfortunately, to be a truly secure system, a different PIN for each card is necessary. However there’s nothing to stop you using the same number for all of them, as long as you don’t tell...

Chip and PIN - A step forward?
Review of Chip and PIN by
moxmalin
Advantages: Much better security (as harder to forge a pin you can't see), so less fraud!
Disadvantages: Having to remember PIN numbers of multiple cards
...The new Chip and PIN system is definitely quite different from standard credit and debit card use as it was before, and personally, I think it's a fantastic idea.
I've always considered a signature for verification purposes to be a bad idea when the very signature you'd need to verify the card somebody could have stolen can easily be forged by looking at the card itself!
With the new system, verification is performed on a separate machine for the consumer, who enters in a four digit PIN code, much as when in a cash machine at a bank, without the need for them to sign anything, and all verification done electronically, which is much more reliable.
From the retailers point of view (from experience), the new system very simple to use and causes no problems, except when people don't know their PIN number, which is very often indeed...

K6-x's UNCOVERED
Review of AMD - K6-III by
robertliu84
Advantages: Top of the Socket 7 processors
Disadvantages: Rare, and difficult to find, and no longer worth the upgrade.
...-3s. This reduced the cost since they did not have to worry about so many different types of CPUs. It also freed up some space in their manufacturing plants to make the Athlons, and it also enable their boffins to concentrate on making the Athlon a success. The K6-2 line kept going for a bit, and still is.
Since then, the performance of the Athlon has shocked many, namely Intel, and it outperformed the Pentium II in many cases. AMD also managed to reach the 1Ghz (1000Mhz) milestone first...but just by a few days.
The K6-2+ and K6-3+ are technically not for desktop use, and strictly for mobiles, such as laptops/notebooks. Keen enthusiasts soon found out that these + CPUs also worked in many standard desktops since they were also Socket 7 and had the same/similar pin arrangements. Take not that not all motherboards support it, and you...

about AMD-K6-III processor
Review of AMD K6 III by
rpgmagician
Advantages: good and cheap processor for using simple apps
Disadvantages: too slow in dificult graphics operations
...other x86 CPU available today. The 21.3-million transistor AMD-K6-III processor is manufactured on AMD's 0.25-micron, five-layer-metal process technology using local interconnect and shallow trench isolation at AMD's Fab 25 wafer fabrication facility in Austin, Texas. The AMD-K6-III processor is packaged in a 100-MHz Super7 platform-compatible, 321-pin ceramic pin grid array (CPGA) package using C4 flip-chip interconnection technology....

1969 - Great Year For Cars - Triumph GT6 Mark One
Review of Triumph GT6 by
beevorm
Advantages: Classic British Sports Car, Beautiful Shape
Disadvantages: It Has 2600 Electrical Points, Runs On 4* Petrol
...overnight. This, we concluded was down to a short in one of the electrical points somewhere in the system. The only issue was that there were 2600 of them and she would require a full strip down. So, we circumvented the issue. We installed a Kingpin in the battery (A modern day safety/anti-theft device) which removes power once the pin is removed and this seemed to do the job.
So, onto the technical details of the car, and more importantly, it's character!
Boasting (remember that this was 1969!) a 6-Cyclinder engine with 95Bhp, the top speed was 106mph and the 0-60 time was a staggering 11.7 seconds... (Yes, I know that the world record for 100m is 9.85 seconds) It was desgined as a 2 seater, with luxurious interior. There was genuine wood panelling and even carpets!!! Because of the 6-cylinder engine it had a much smoother feel...

AMD K6 2
Review of AMD - K6-2 by
ia_young
Advantages: Price, very cheap!
Disadvantages: None
...At some point last year, well more than a year ago, I decided that I needed to boost the speed of my computer a bit. I didn’t want to spend too much; I only really wanted to upgrade my processor. I had a look at what was on the market and I was quite restricted as the motherboard I had was quite old. It was a choice between an Intel chip, I am not sure what this was, and an AMD chip.
In the end what made up my mind was the price of the AMD K6-2 500 it was only £40. What a bargain, this could keep my computer going for another year or two, hopefully! I then had a few problems getting the chip as they didn’t make it any more, which means by now you can’t get it I should think.
** Installation **
It is not recommended that everyone change their CPU in their computer as they are sensitive pieces of equipment...

The world in my hands
Review of Navman PiN 570 by
donf18
Advantages: It gets you there no matter what, and more
Disadvantages: Can be a little slow to re-route
...this great deal was one to Amazon.co.uk where after reading all the jargon I finally got to the serious business of the price. £138.99 delivered or £129.99 with standard UK postage, I opted for the quicker method and my equipment arrived 2 days later in a very well protected box inside a box inside a box, so there was little chance that the postie was going to damage it.
On opening the quite large parcel I was astounded at what was actually in the package,
1. The Navman PiN 570
2. A car charger
3. A USB/mains charger
3. An SD card containing the navigati | | |
