Wunderbar Hamburg Germany
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by nickjj78

Advantages: Great lively city; great sights!!
Disadvantages: None really!

...youth hostels and budget hotels to luxury chains. I would definitely try and stay as close to the centre of Hamburg as you can do where you will find great value hotels from chains such as SAS, Marriott and Renaissance. I normally stay at the Marriott or Renaissance hotels and you can pick up an internet deal for around £60 for a double room which is great value and both hotels are located right in the heart of city, less than five minutes walk from Jungfernstieg and the Alster. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What to do: Here are a few of my favourite things to do in Hamburg: Take a walk around the inner Alster Lake. If it is sunny enjoy an ice cream, from a vendor and if not try to get a window table at the Alstertor Cafe. After that go on an hour long cruise along the Alster and soak up the atmosphere and see where all the rich Hamburgers live... Read review

Hamburg, Germany: great destination!
Review of Hamburg & surrounding area by nickjj78

Advantages: Tons to do and see!
Disadvantages: None really!

...swimming pool that is mainly used only by local Hamburgers so a great way to feel as though you belong in Hamburg. It takes about 40 minutes form the city centre using the green S1 line direction Wedel. 4) The open top tour buses are a great way to see Hamburg and get a real feel for the place and depart frequently outside the Rathaus. You take in all the famous local sights such as the Rathaus, St. Pauli, Altona train, Reeperbahn (red light district...) etc. The 1 hour trip costs approx. 13 Euros. Most hotels have a great range of leaflets about things to do in Hamburg and hotel staff are always helpful: the opera is very popular here as are musicals (currently showing is the Lion King and Mamma Mia!!) Where to stay? There are some great hotels in Hamburg but my favourites are the Renaissance and Marriott (both operated by Marriott... Read review

An amazing experience
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by michelle

Advantages: Buzzing, interesting, friendly and vibrant city.
Disadvantages: Some areas deprived and dirty with quite a few beggars.

...Arrived central Hamburg tourist information looking for a hotel for two nights (it was 3pm and the city was in the middle of a huge Disco/music fest attracting 350,000 people). Staff at info centre were wonderful, despite being incredibly busy. We were booked into the Crowne Plaza at an amazing rate of 400DM for two people b+b in a double room (last minute rate)for the two nights. HOTEL- Great reception, very clean and immaculate decor. Room very well equipped. Exquisit restaurant with attentive and friendly staff. TAXI- Very reliable and reasonably priced. HAMBURG - Stayed in hotel for evening meal - totally beautiful eating experience. Early start and taxi to FISH MARKET (down at the port 5am - 10am). I could not belive it was so early on a Sunday morning. The atmosphere was electric..bands playing, bars open, thousands of stalls... Read review

Germany's most exciting city
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by Icebeer

Advantages: perfect nightlife
Disadvantages: nothing

...(I'm german so I apologize for my bad english) I live in Hamburg and study meteorology since three years. In my opinion I live in the most interesting and exciting city in Germany. With 1.7 Million inhabitants it is the secound biggest city in Germany. It is in the north part of Germany and it is famous for the port. It is one of the biggest ports in Europe. A lot of people say that it is the port witch gives Hamburg the special atmosphere. I can only agree. If your are in the nightlife on a Saturdaynight and you walk to the port ( it is in the centre of Hamburg) it is very relaxing to drink your beer, watch the big ships and heer the noise of a port. I like it. But in Hamburg there is much more. Also famous is the Reeperbahn. It is famous for all the erotic shops but here are also the main attractions of the Hamburger nightlife... Read review

A glorious town with so much to offer tourists.
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by Si-Tunes

Advantages: Attractive city, great shopping, good restaurants
Disadvantages: Weather?

...train station is enormous, with various shops and restaurants under the largest free span roof of any station in Germany. Tourists are recommended to buy a Tageskarte (Day ticket), an all-in-one travel card. If you are staying longer, it is worth buying a multiple day-ticket and these are available from most hotels. This ticket offers not only unlimited use on the city's transport but discounts on tourist trips. I received a discount on the a bus Standtrundfahrt (City tour) and on a delightful boat trip on lake Alster. You could hire a bike which is a popular way to get around town. Hoards of cyclists seem to greet you on every corner. The weather in Hamburg isn't brilliant, the town is renowned for having a fairly poor climate. The old cliché is to take an umbrella with you, something the locals fiercely deny. I was fortunate... Read review

Hamburg means nightlife and more
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by Daniela16

Advantages: Many young and nice people
Disadvantages: no one

...Hello again ! I know what I´m writing about, cause I´m a real "Hamburger" Girl. This city is a city one must have seen ! The town hall called "Rathhaus", the Michel (the biggest church in Hamburg), the legendary "Reeperbahn" are all stations of a sightseeing tour. I think all of you know the Reeperbahn. Maybe you know it as THE street of sex in Hamburg. But thats not right. Here are also many clubs and they are great. Here is music for everyone. Whatever you what to hear in Hamburg is the right club, like 2-step(which is very successful at the moment), techno, hiphop or just pop. But Hamburg has another site ! In Hamburg yoú will find the Alster. I´m not sure if it´s a river or not. We also have great shopping miles. For example in the central of the city. The Mönkebergstraße and the Gänsemarkt are the most visited shopping miles... Read review

The Kate Winslet of Cities
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by zoe_page

Advantages: Somewhere to practice my Deutsch
Disadvantages: Attitude; Attractions (or lack thereof)

...Airbrushed beyond belief to make it look better on paper than it is in real life. I like cities where the airport is not that far removed from the city centre, so we were off to a flying start in Hamburg when less than half an hour after landing and €20 lighter we found ourselves a our hotel. Hamburg has a whole bunch of hotels and guest houses but we only stayed at one, the Radisson, and it was ok. Expedia and Opodo have good choices if you're choosing to book online (which, when you think about it, really is the only way to do it). We spent 4 days in the city at the beginning of December, specifically timed to take in the Christmas markets. These take place at a few sites across the city from mid November until Christmas eve. The main ones are very centrally located, on the main squares near the town hall, and around the various... Read review

HAMBURG MARRIOTT HOTEL
Review of Marriott Hamburg Treudelberg, Hamburg by nickjj78

Advantages: Lovely hotel, excellent rooms and service
Disadvantages: None really!

...~~~HAMBURG MARRIOTT HOTEL~~~ As well as having stayed at the Renaissance Hotel in Hamburg several times, I have also stayed at the Renaissance sister hotel, the Marriott, located on ABC Strasse in the exclusive shopping and dining part of the city of Hamburg. The hotel is well located and transfer time from the airport (Hamburg) is under 20 minutes or so with taxi fares also being under 20Euros (£13-£15). Just outside o f the hotel you will find a glittering array of upmarket shops and small boutiques and the hotel is located in a very quiet area and all of the rooms are exceptionally quiet. Arriving at the hotel: As you enter the hotel, the lobby is sumptuous and well-kept, and there are always plenty of bellhops to help with your bags. Check-in is always smooth and painless, and there is a good selection of local interest... Read review

Hamburg - a city often missed!
Review of Hamburg (Germany) by flashsweeney

Advantages: Easy to reach. Mixed culture
Disadvantages: Need to be relatively open minded

...in English! The city is often overlooked by us brits in favour of the likes of Amsterdam. However, for something a little different try Hamburg. Cheap flights are available or you could cruise direct to Hamburg from the port at Harwich on a budget.... Read review

Relax at the Renaissance Hamburg Hotel
Review of Renaissance Hamburg Hotel, Hamburg by nickjj78

Advantages: Great location and friendly welcome
Disadvantages: None

...The Renaissance Hamburg Hotel is part of the worldwide Marriott chain and offers the excellent accommodations that you would expect from Marriott but with the flair that you would normally expect from the Renaissance team. As with other properties in this brand hotels are branded by Renaissance but owned and managed locally adding real local colour to the hotel. Booking: Book via the Marriott website, and they guarantee that you will get their cheapest rates (the best rate is usually from 110 euros (approx £60.00) per night) for a twin/double room. Many rates are available and most options come with or without breakfast. There are single rooms and double rooms (i.e. 1 king bed or two doubles) that would accommodate 2 or 4 respectively. In addition, the corner Junior Suites offer additional space and more often than not a three... Read review
