...I have owned the Canon Powershot A80 (4.0 mega pixels) for just over a year now. I must admit that I am extremely happy with the quality of the pictures it takes in all weather conditions. It is my first experience with digital cameras and I did a lot of painstaking research before I eventually decided on this model from our local branch of Jessops. I was going to go for a Fuji of around the same spec but slightly more expensive, but the salesman took me outside on a very wet and misty Saturday afternoon, took a shot of the street, and then did an example print-out from the A80 and the Fuji for me, the reproduction of the colours of the Canon far outshone the Fuji. So the Canon it was to be, and I pushed a bit of a hard deal and got a free carry case thrown in - well worth it to barter! It can be fun and save you money! Power... Read review

...I went out intending to buy a Minolta Digital Camera, however after talking to the shop staff, and trying several different manufacturers, I decided on the Canon Powershot A80. My reasons for choosing this product are:- firstly I was impressed by the style of the camera, compact, solid, and stylish. I then looked at the range of functions available on the camera. It had 12 different settings , ranging from manual to automatic, to video with sound, including self timer , fast action, portrait, and panoramic. On the camera is a facility to show the pictures taken direct onto a T.V., and also use the magnification lever to focus on a particular part of the photograph you have taken. Advantages: Uses AA batteries
Disadvantages: Camera shake when not in Auto mode

...I searched long and hard through various web sites for my first digital camera. Originally I was after a Canon IXUS 400. Having done my homework though I went for the A80, why? * Uses AA batteries - these are globally ubiquitous. As there is not much warning for when the batteries are about to give out, it's nice to know when your on holiday you can easily replace them pretty much no matter where you are. It comes with 4 Panasonics, these gave out quickly; Duracell Utlras much better. Downside is the weight it adds. Although too it makes the camera bulkier than the Ixus, it's really not that much more in my opinion plus the battery compartment make a great handhold. * CF card - "Old" technology maybe, but it;s commonplace and a lot cheaper than other forms of storage byte for byte - nice! Disadvantages: a little heavy and bulky

...function I also found helpful when photographing flowers and the like, picks up every small detail. Great to have. There is a function on there that allows you to take photos in black and white, sepia, vivid colour that sort of thing, the sepia version of my night shot was also amazing, I also used the vivid colour setting when we went to Burano (a very colourful island in Venice) and the shots were very clear and defined – more so than on the auto function. The Movie function is great to have - the only - point it has is the fact that you can't zoom in when in movie mode. The compact flash cards are reasonably cheap compared to smart media and are really easy to get hold of. The movie function is great to have and the little microphone picks sounds up really well. All in all I'd say the Powershot is a fantastic camera for both... Read review
