...I have never played any of the previous games in the Ace Combat series and to be honest I wont be buying anymore! Yes its fun for a little bit but there are no cheats available so when you get bored and want to fly the fast planes with the awesome guns- you cant unless you have unlocked them! This is quite annoying as I got bored after a few hours lol! Ever level is the same- you fly a plane and shoot something... theres only two things that change 1. It gets harder 2. You have to both more up than the previous level! Graphically the game looks amazing but if you get close to the floor it looks like its off the playstation one! That is really the only plus! :( In summary: If you a keen flyer then by all means its worth a look, but I play games for fun... and this just is not my cup of tea!... Read review

...Namco's third attempt at a flight sim has proved a little more successful in its attempt to provide longevity to the game, with more endings available at completion and more varied missions this time. They also seem to have just ported the same graphics over from Ace Combat 2, with little enhancements that are hardly noticeable from the prequel. However, they have once again captured that intensity that will have you riveted to your screen for the first few times you play it, and it's only after a little practice that you can start to relax a bit and start blasting away merrily with your cannons, until you get to the later levels where all sorts of enemies can await. Overall, the best of a bad bunch from Namco, if you are a die hard flight sim fanatic then it's probably worth spending a bit of money, otherwise I would... Read review

...Love it or hate it, Ace Combat 2 is a flight shoot 'em up that offers intense action from start to finish. The only draw back is that you can reach the finish at the end of day one, so longevity is a serious fault with this game. However, if you like the kind of game that has you gripping your controller till your knuckles turn white and sweat breaks out on your forehead as you try to get the HUD crosshairs to lock on to the AI controlled plane in front of you, this game has that kind of intensity to it that makes up for it's short game life. Flight sim officionados and budding RAF members should by it, anyone else should really stay well clear.... Read review

...The Ace Combat series is definitely one that has progressed over the years. Ace Combat X, the series debut on the PSP, is absolutely amazing. Graphically, the planes in-game look amazing. However, dont expect thrillings backgrounds graphic-wise, flying over the buildings shows you how little effort they put into making the scenery look good.On a lighter note, the cut scenes, the menus, etc. are artistically done very well. The menus are also very easy to navigate leaving you with more time for flying rather than selecting options. Selecting missions, aircraft, etc. are very easily done with a few button presses. Aircraft selections and options are numerous, which provides more depth for aircraft and military fanatics. ...Ace Combat - The Belkan War pretty much uses all the same features as its predecessors, however don't be disappointed! If you enjoyed 'Ace Combat 5' and Ace Combat 04 then the term 'been there, done that' will undoubtedly spring to mind, don't let this put you off though, the skies are still infested with enemies and the game is just as pleasurable as the earlier ones, you'l still have a great time playing. ...Ace Combat:Distant Thunder is the fourth game in the series and the first on PlayStation 2. I had only played the original and missed out numbers 2 & 3. I used to like the original, back when the Psone was released. AC:DT involves you flying a combat aircraft in a series of single-player missions or head-to-head in 2 players 'deathmatches'. The first thing that grabs you about this game are the photo-realistic landscpaes around you, and the sense of speed you get when flying at a low level. If you have ever wanted to fly a plane like in the movie Top Gun, this is as close as you are likely to get. The controls may be more arcade like than hardcore flight sim, but this is the PlayStation 2 and only to be expected. In fact this makes it more accessible than a lot of PC based flight sim games. ...Missile approaching, dive, dive! ACE COMBAT 2 is on the whole a brilliant game with only one flaw, but ill come to that later. SO Gameplay: The gameplay of this flightcombat sim is superb. After a couple of minutes grappling with the controls, youll find yourself swooping under bridges, through citys, going up as high as you can then diving and pulling out at the last moment, plummeting out of the sky into an enemy tank and then watching the replay of you and the tank going up into flames. This really is high thrill stuff. It is easy to start flying, just go to new or load game, select play mission, choose your plane and your off! The loading time is about 3 seconds for each mission, which is superb.
