Mutants are Back in Action
Review of X-Men 1.5 DVD by
mightyd
Advantages: Great film - lots of action and special effects
Disadvantages: Rated a (15)
....

Well this fantabulous movie is full of great actors starring the following actors: Bruce Davison, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, James Marsden, Hugh Jackman, Tyler Mane, Ray Park, Matthew Sharp - with stunning performances throughout, together they make this movie incomparable to a lot of other movies out there.
Director of this is Bryan Singer and what a great job he has done with not just this movie but the Xmen 2 and 3.
The Genre of this movie is an Action and Adventure film - only to be expected from comic book heroes and villians.
The DVD's original release date was 03/05/2004, and the certificate rating is 15. Or i really wouldn't think so considering there's hardly any swearing or nudity or things like that -well...

"She must take a lot of vitamins!"
Review of A View To A Kill (Ultimate Edition) by
arthurpringle
Advantages: Fun cast, good stunts
Disadvantages: Bit silly in places, quite long
...usual standards and seem to make extensive use of luminous paint.
After the usual M scenes there is some pleasant location work at Ascot with Q and Moneypenny enjoying a day at the races as Bond and company watch Zorin. Both Moore and Lois Maxwell bowed out after A View To A Kill and it's nice to see them all having one more adventure together before being put out to pasture. There are of course also several big action set-pieces in A View To A Kill, including a chase up the Eiffel Tower, skydiving and much carnage in Paris as Bond steals a car and destroys it - and most of the French capital it seems! "May I remind you," Says M. "That this operation was to be conducted discreetly. All it took was six million Francs in damages and penalties for violating most of the Napoleonic Code." There are some spectacular car stunts in this sequence...

Masterful Historical Naval Tale
Review of The Hundred Days - Patrick O'Brian by
mr.wibble
Advantages: A Gripping Historical Adventure
Disadvantages: Maybe a Little Too Detailed For Some Taste
...The Hundred Days is the 3rd Patrick O’Brian book I have read and they are wonderful. What first intrigued me was the cover of a book that a gentleman was reading, whilst sat opposite me on the train on my way home from work one evening. It was a grand and detailed illustration of a 19th Century sailing ship. I have a rather unfulfilled passion for the high seas, from the time of the Spanish Main through to the advent of steam power. I paid a visit to the book store and was pleasantly surprised to find a whole shelf crammed full with 20 different titles, (I stood there and counted). I already knew that I was going to enjoy this project.
If you are already familiar with Patrick O’Brian then, you are probably addicted to him. From my experience his writing can be somewhat an acquired taste but give it a chance and you will be truly...

Shaken Not Stirred, Well Maybe A Little!
Review of A View To A Kill (Ultimate Edition) by
sghawken
Advantages: Excellent feature packed DVD
Disadvantages: A disturbing revelation in the special features to hideous to think about
...; however the meeting is cut rather short when the person he is to meet is assassinated. Bond pursues his obviously female assassin who after a little gunplay launches herself from the building of the meet (the Eiffel Tower) into the sky. Rather conveniently she just happens to come complete with a parachute to aide her escape.
Bond is led into one of the most Awesome adventures yet, from a flaming building, to a racing day of death, from an exploding silicon mine, to a deadly encounter on a zeppelin. It also features two of the best villains in Bond history Max Zorrin and May Day; A View To A Kill Has It All.
The Cast
Roger Moore .... James Bond
Christopher Walken .... Max Zorin
Tanya Roberts .... Stacey Sutton
Grace Jones .... May Day
Patrick Macnee .... Sir Godfrey Tibbett
Patrick Bauchau .... Scarpine

Dalton or Brosnan - Who Makes The Best Bond?
Review of James Bond 007 - The Living Daylights DVD by
the_mad_cabbie
Advantages: Belter of an action movie
Disadvantages: Disadvantages? In a Bond movie. Never!
...the creator of Bond, the late author Ian Fleming. It runs for about three quarters of an hour, and goes into immense detail about the writer (he was a failed spy himself!) with insights into the man from many of his friends and relatives. But it's really not that interesting, and could have done with being a wee bit shorter.
The second is a documentary piece narrated by the actor Patrick MacNee (TV series The Avengers) about the making of the movie. It runs for just over half an hour, and includes loads of comments from many of the actors. One particularly interesting bit of footage is of the actors Sam Neill and Pierce Brosnan trying out for the part of Bond in scenes with Maryam d'Abo. Brosnan later went on to play Bond after Dalton, and Sam Neill has often been mooted in movie circles as a possible Bond.
There's also a deleted scene that never...

******************
Like most brothers, Danny and Walter don’t get along and their teenage sister Lisa rarely registers their existence. With their parents recently separated, it can be a lonely world, particularly for Danny, the youngest. When a squabble results in their father having to leave them to return to the office to print some ruined work material out, Danny discovers an old board game in the basement and pleads with his brother to play with him.

A fun flight in a plane leads to adventure
Review of The Valley Of Adventure - Enid Blyton by
shorn_the_sheep
Advantages: Adventure, excitement and intrigue
Disadvantages: Can seem a little outdated by today's standards
...I am a huge fan of Enid Blyton books, but out of them all there's none I like better than the "Adventure" series of books featuring 4 children and a parrot.
Unlike the Secret Seven and Famous Five series, I've always thought of the Adventure series as being more "grown up." For a start, it doesn't feature jolly adventures in caravans, and there's no meeting up with loveable gipsies who help the children out in their time of need.
Instead the adventures are darker, and more dangerous, with the children often finding themselves in life-threatening positions and facing seemingly inescapable dilemmas.
THE PLOT:
In the Valley of Adventure the four children - Jack, Lucy-Ann, Philip and Dinah, and Kiki the parrot stumble upon an adventure when they try to go for a night flight with a friend of their mother's. Unfortunately for them...

Nobody Does it Better..10 times
Review of The Spy Who Loved Me DVD by
dadmancat
Advantages: Great film, interesting extras, looks good
Disadvantages: poor 5.1 mix of the sound
.... On the whole though this is splendid entertainment. Lewis Gilbert directs at a cracking pace, the cast are all good, although one wishes for a stronger villain and slightly more charismatic leading lady. The score swings wildly from great to toe curling, it has dated very badly, and the synths and disco beats irritate on more than one occasion...where was John Barry?
The DVD is also one of the best with a long and informative 'making of', narrated by Patrick Macnee, full of new info and behind the scenes footage. There is also a very worthwhile mini-documentary profiling Ken Adam, although it does seem a trifle rushed. The galleries are as usual very interesting, the commentaries are less so, Lewis Gilbert is very old and frail sounding. The trailers are there too, all manner of variations, all rather lacklustre. The two main documentaries...

3 x Adventure with Indy
Review of Indiana Jones - The Adventures Of Indiana Jones (Box Set) by
kiss_me2070
Advantages: Action, Adventure, Humour,
Disadvantages: Violent at times,
...but unfortunately lost. Sean Connery received a Golden Globe nomination.
***OPINION***
This is one of my favourite films, there is a lot of humour with Sean Connery and Harrison Ford acting together and throughout the film I was laughing, gasping and smiling. Definitely my top Indiana Jones film for action and adventure and my favourite part is when we see Indiana as a child running away and ending up in a circus train, which is how we come to lean about his fear of snakes! An addictive film, and I was sad to learn it was the last one (until the release of this year's Indiana Jones film!)
