...A couple of years ago I was invited to attend a European convention in Slovenia. Quite excited I started looking for ways to get there. The year before, on my way back from Lanzarote, I was taken quite ill on the plane and spent a whole 4 hour journey on oxygen, later being met off the plane by an ambulance. Advantages: plenty to do on and off site, entertainment every night

...Perran Sands Haven Site was ideally situated in Perranporth, Cornwall and had its own beach - accessed from a steep hill and had no car park near the beach. However, it was excellent for body-boarding and we enjoyed this for several hours. The only down side was the climb back up !! There was no life guard - but we did got out of season, so this was to be expected. The caravan we used was a Silver type which came with duvets, microwave and had a gas fire in the living room. The kitchenette was quite big and we had 2 toilets, 1 with a shower and the caravan had 3 bedrooms. On site was 2 amusement arcades, a Burger King, 3 or 4 bars (we did not visit the Surf Rider to see what it contained), a mini supermarket and Crazy Golf and a ride which was similar to bumper cars but span you round and had lasers on it, which cost £1 a go... ...can be equally as cool. For instance rockclimbing holiday camps, or kayaking trips down river- stopping off to camp in a random field every night. The possibilities are endless. This brings me on to my next point about caravan sights. In my opinion who on earth would want to participate in this kind of activity? Camping despite its basic living style and poor image, I have managed to legitimise. But going on holiday to a caravan sight is just pointless. For a start these holidays are damned expensive. One could pay for a family holiday apartment for a whole week, this for the same price as a family caravan plot for the same period of time! It beats me why anyone would want to pay his or her hard-earned money to sleep in the armpit of someone else for a whole week. To cook something you have to fold the caravan up around yourself... ...When my husband suggested borrowing his brothers caravan and going to Moreton in the Marsh, I was somewhat sceptical to say the least, but as he had already spoken to our two children (aged 3 and 5), who were absolutely delighted, there was no going back! The caravan site is located just 5 minutes walk from Moreton in the Marsh, in the heart of the Cotswolds, and is run by the Caravan Club, of which you have to be a Member. It is an attractive site with woodland around it. I envisaged cold barren toilet blocks, everyone parked up side by side - no privacy. How wrong can you get? The site was spotlessly clean, the toilet/shower block was every nice, and again very clean. There was a small play area with swings etc, and another large area for playing football, crazy golf, boules and cricket, as well as a climbing frame... Read review

Two of the three had read Marina Lewycka's very popular, critically acclaimed and award winning debut novel 'A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian' and had thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the three had started to read 'Two Caravans' and the rest of us decided that this would be a good first book for a 'book club' (between you and me, this is a means for us to legitimise a regular girl's evening down the pub). 'Tractors' (if I may use this as short hand) has 'its extraordinary distinctiveness, wit and heart' to thank for its success. I expected this and more of 'Two Caravans' given the recommendations and plaudits for the author. This book is slapstick funny and darkly sinister in turns. It has as its backdrop... Read review

...Do you want a clean, well run, well staffed caravan / campsite in beautiful Cornwall. If the answer is yes then this is most definitely NOT the place for you and your family. Penstowe has no atmosphere and no staff, don't get me wrong there is a woman that can be occasionally found, but everyday you are greeted by a hand written sign on the office/reception door telling you of her unavailability. Oh, but I mustn't forget her husband who is on hand to shout at you if you come looking for any assistance.The toilet/shower block was not cleaned for three days. And I don't mean not cleaned properly, I mean NOT CLEANED! False nails sitting beside one of the sinks for this period was testament to this. Build up of human excrement, rubbish and bugs provided further proof. The fact there was no soap provided in the ladies toilets for these three... Read review

...This Caravan Park is in Dawlish Warren, Devon. It is clean, friendly and has excellent entertainment facilities, and entertainment staff. The beach is a short walk away, is clean and has rock pools for the children to explore. The site has static caravans and I have stayed in the lower and top range, and all are clean and very modern. There are also chalets which I have never stayed in but look fine. There is a childrens play area with swings etc, lots of activities day and night for the children and adults alike. There are 3 swimming pools and a bubbling pool to relax in. There are shops on site and just off site, launderette, hire services and gas and electric are free. There is plenty of parking space, and there are lots of nearby attractions, e.g. Model Village, Paignton zoo, and you can get discounts on the visits... Read review

...Salcombe Regis Caravan Park is the nearest site to the small resort of Sodmouth. It is a very spacious site and the caravans are sited around the perimeter of a large field. The camping field is also large with sizeable pitches. The site is kept beutifully clean and tidy. It is a short walk to the village of Salcombe Regis and about 30 mins across the fields to the sea. Also within walking distance is the famous Donkey Sanctuary (free admission!) This is an excellent site for visting the nearby resorts of Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Seaton, Branscombe, and Lyme Regis, and the inland towns of Honiton, Axminster and Exeter.... Read review

Advantages: Lovely surroundings
Disadvantages: Quite pricey compared to other sites

...I have used tis campsite for the last three years as it always provides what we need. It is very easy to find just off the M271, definitely best to get to it from this side, not to go through the town of lyndhurst first as it is always very crowded in this very small town and will take ages to get through. Ashurst train station is also only a 5 minute walk away so you could get the train too. It takes both caravans and tents. You must always book for bank holiday weekend which you can conveniently do online. They changed the rules slightly this year which was a bit cheeky, it is now a four night minimum over the bank holiday but it turned out we quite liked the extra night. If you intend to use the site a lot it is also worth joining the forestry commision club as there are many sites they own and joining gives you a small discount... Read review
