Nelson's place
Review of Best Western One Four Nelson, Rye by
littlesquirt
Advantages: Close to the sea, close to most of the golf courses
Disadvantages: Can get really busy at the attached restaurant
...I've been staying in this hotel on a regular basis for about a year now. So, I feel I do have the authority to write about the hotel.
Location
------------
The hotel is located in the south eastern region of Victoria, known as the Mornington Peninsula, in a town called Rye. The town is located approximately an hour and a half drive from the city of Melbourne. The hotel itself is a street away from the beach.
The name of the hotel, One Four Nelson, is really the address of the hotel at 14 Nelson Street. The hotel is made up of several buildings. The building housing the rooms and a separate building housing a bottle shop, reception and restaurant.
To make a reservation
------------------------------
There are several ways to make a reservation. One of them is to call them up to ask for a quote for a room and to make...

Lord Nelson hasnt sunk
Review of Lord Nelson by
dizzych
Advantages: Cheep and great beer
Disadvantages: Can get a little busy later on
...The Lord Nelson that i sometimes go to is in Urmston, Manchester. It is a lovely place and has a wonderful atmosphere. It is a Joseph Holts pub, and for those who have never had the chance to drink in a Joseph Holts pub, let me explain.
Joseph Holts is the best pint of bitter i have ever had, and ive drunk a few. Quite personally i think that the lager is awful, but then again i dont drink much larger, im bitter and ale man myself. Joseph Holts is its own brewery so in the pumps is its own beer. This is probably why it is so cheap. I cant write enough how good the bitter is. At first i was a bit reluctant to try the bitter as i didnt like the lager (i drank lager first). Once tasted ive never gone back.
Enough on the brewery and back onto the pub...
The pub inside is a traditional looking pub, with a huge carpeted lounge area...

L'Histiore de Melody Nelson
Review of Histoire De Melody Nelson [Remastered] [Digipak] - Serge Gainsbourg by
thegrinder2k
Advantages: Glorious music, sounds like nothing else in the world.
Disadvantages: Too much narrating; not long enough.
...where the inspiration for Kid A’s “How to Disappear” orchestra part came from.
Opener “Melody” starts with a simple combination of guitar, bass and drums, with Gainsbourg narrating. In truth the narrating spoils it: all you want to do is listen to the music. The guitar and bass parts are amazing; they cover an astonishing variety of tones and textures, and they are both (cursed word!) “melodic”, and incredibly detailed. The song builds to a huge orchestral climax. But never on this album is the orchestra part obtrusive. It’s always light and floaty, soaring over the rest of the music, and compliments it perfectly.
“Ballade de Melody Nelson” follows. This is a beautiful track, with a lovely finger-picked acoustic guitar and a gorgeous chord progression. The same goes for “...

Willie Nelson: Story-Teller
Review of Teatro - Willie Nelson by
Jerseycoa
Advantages: Willie's sweet voice and stinging guitar
Disadvantages: It's not twice as long
...The music: clean, uncluttered introspective. The songs: conveying the stark, sere, loneness of the singer. It's been called "blue collar blues" and I'd call it that, too, more than I'd call it country music. Only three of the songs are new, written in the 1990s, the rest are refashioned from the 1960s, and the 30 years in between scarcely matter. The songs were chosen and pieced together to tell the story of obssessive love or convey the concept of domestic abuse, whichever way you want to see it. And they do succeed in working together. They succeed in taking hold of your heart and grabbing onto it hard.
Somehow, in Willie Nelson's mature voice, the older songs take on a new edge and freshness. Emmy Lou Harris's background voice deepens the poignancy and works sweetly with Willie's. Hers is the ghostly voice of the victim and...

Night Fall by Nelson Demille
Review of Night Fall - Nelson Demille by
damieng
Advantages: John Corey is a wryly amusing character with plenty of clever lines. The theory surrounding a real-life event raises some fascinating questions.
Disadvantages: The ending was a major disappointment to me.
...The end of the Twentieth Century and the start of the Twenty-First has seen the end of the Cold War but the beginning of a new, more immediate threat - terrorism. Understandably the focus of thriller writers has made a definite shift towards incorporating the threat of terrorism into their storylines. In Night Fall, Nelson DeMille uses terrorism as the central theme to great effect firstly as a potential threat and then as an actual event.
The crash of TWA Flight 800 off the Long Island coast on July 17 1996 was ruled an accident by investigators, faulty wiring causing a spark in an empty fuel tank was said to have ignited fuel vapors. 200 eyewitness reports suggest that a more sinister cause of the crash took place that night. Were they all wrong or has there been a monumental cover up by the FBI who controlled the scene?

The life and death of an english naval hero
Review of Southey on Nelson: The Life of Nelson - Robert Southey by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: Introductory essay, clear and concise, beautiful illustrations
Disadvantages: None
...The biography, The Life of Nelson, was originially written by the poet and historian, Robert Southey in 1813. It has been revived and edited by Richard Holmes in a series of biographical books, Flamingo Classic Biographies series, released by HarperCollins on 17th September 2001. The book retails for £7.99.
I attended a talk given by Richard Holmes promoting this set of short books (The Life of Nelson is just 300 pages) whilst at the Hay Festival this year. For the Talk, Holmes focused on another biography, that of William Blake by Alexander Gilchrist. Unable to find this book at the time, I purchased The Life of Nelson, as an alternative. Other books in the series are Scott on Zelide, Johnson on Savage, Goodwin on Wollstonecraft, Defoe on Sheppard and Wild.
Holmes is a compelling orator who is impassioned by biographical writing...

Award winning compilation
Review of Annual 2004, The - Various Artists by
maphack
Advantages: Box set, great variety of music, 3 CD's, some awesome tracks
Disadvantages: None, if you like dance music you'll love this
...'The Annual' compilations from Ministry of Sound are realeased yearly and are continously getting awards such as Best Mix CD from Dance Award shows. This is the most recent release and I was lucky enough to receive a copy for christmas 2003. The compilation includes the hottest tracks released throughout the year, some recently released tracks and some of the best tracks to hit the scene in the past 5 years.
The box set includes 63 tracks split into 3 CD's. The first CD is more of a trance CD featuring some of the best tracks of 2003 including Angel City, Ian Van Dahl, Tomcraft, Benny Benassi, Divine Inspiration, DJ Sammy, Agnelli & Nelson and many more.
The second CD's tracks are more house music with some great hits by Milk & Sugar, Room 5, Jason Nevins, Deepest Blue, Layo & Bushwacka, Justin Timberlake, Kurtis Mantronix...

SHAKE YA SHIMMY
Review of Clubland Vol.1 (The Ride Of Your Life) - Various Artists by
LostWitness
Advantages: Loads of good tunes
Disadvantages: Two well dodgy ones
..., with a simple female vocal telling us to “make love with affection” (I think it might be a Joan Armatrading sample). It’s just brilliant, and I would have bought this cd just to get this song.
Scooter – The Logical Song
Offy liked the original. Deano76 recognised the lyrics in my profile from the Scooter version. Scooter have been around since I was at school, but this year they hit the big time with The Logical Song – a cheese-tastic techno romp around a main vocal hook. This is Ritzy material through and through, but it is brilliant – and I did say that this compilation lacked credibility. I guarantee that Deano76 will get out of his tree when this one plays in Birmingham.
Agnelli & Nelson – Everyday 2002

No Place Like Home (UPDATED)
Review of Marlborough & Nelson (New Zealand) by
erinmitch
Advantages: The best nature has to offer right at the door
Disadvantages: High living costs
...KIAORA (Hello) from the Top Of The South.
O.K. so anybody reading this will probably claim that I'm biased and impartial as Nelson is
my home town so of course I think it's one of the best places in the world as most do of
their homes........but it just so happens in my case I am telling the truth!!!!
I was born in Nelson some 25 years ago but have no memory of it as my parents moved us
to the North Island (yes we know that’s not very original but we don't see a need to
flower things up down here) to a town of thermal wonders called Rotorua (which means second lake) when I was just 2 years old.
Though I enjoyed my childhood and all Rotorua had to offer I lived for the family holidays
when we would come to stay in Nelson for some family event or another. The brilliant blue
sky and perfect sunshine.Rolling green hills...
