Reviews of amsterdam city
Why I hate Amsterdamn
Review of Amsterdam in general by
Superfly25
Advantages: beautiful historic areas and most modern soccer stadium
Disadvantages: crime,prostitution,drugs,rude people
...Well I am in Amsterdam each year at least once. Most of the time only to see the American Football game of the NFL Europe between the Frankfurt Galaxy (my favorite team) and the Amsterdam Admirals. They also play in the greatest and most modern soccer stadium in europe: the Amsterdam Arena
But that is basicly all that I consider great about that city. Some folks call Amsterdam the Venice of the netherlands, because you can take plenty of boat tours within the city and Amsterdam is also located at the coast. The inner city is historic and it shows considering the style the houses are built.
But now to the reasons why I learned to hate Amsterdam(n). The first time I was there folks that identified me as german were really rude. On every corner in the inner city there was someone offering me `great deals on pot`and wanted to lead me...

Anne Franks house
Review of Amsterdam (Netherlands) by
carolinecook2000
Advantages: interesting and different
Disadvantages: made me cry
...For all who have read the diary of Anne Frank, a visit to the secret annexe where she and her family hid is a must when staying in Amsterdam. It is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city so get there early if you don’t like queues. The rooms the Franks occupied for two years are left pretty much as they were. The marks on the walls recording the children’s heights are particularly poignant. There is plenty of background detail on the war and the occupation of Amsterdam as well as some extremely moving writing by children of current day fascism and anti-Semitism....

Brilliant city
Review of Amsterdam in general by
emmajane
Advantages: easy to get around
Disadvantages: none
...I think Amsterdam has got to be my favourite city in the world and if you have never been I recommend you visit it. The city is beautiful with its many canals. There is something for everyone to do, whether it is visiting the Van Gogh museum or relaxing in the many coffee shops. The language is no problem as everyone speaks English and you are bound to have a good time if you visit. The city is easy to get around as there are plenty trams and you can hire bikes that make it even more fun. Or instead, just take a canal cruise and enjoy....

Amster Damn Pickpockets
Review of Amsterdam (Netherlands) by
evansuk
Advantages: Lot's of things to see. Excellent transport
Disadvantages: Drug dealers, pickpockets
...I visited Amsterdam via Scandinavian Seaways, now known as "DFDS Seaways".
from Newcastle (North Shields).
After docking early in Ijumaiden (forgive the spelling) we boarded a bus which took us to the centre of Amsterdam.
The currency of Amsterdam is the Guilder. When I visited Amsterdam in 1998 10 Guilders was worth about £3.50
Transport in Amsterdam is very efficient so you shouldn't have any problems traveling around the city. Trams and buses are avialable regularly from the bus/tram stop dotted around the city. Residents of Amsterdam choose the bike as their mode of transport, and belive me theres plenty of them. Bicycle hire is also availble for about 40 Guilders.
Most people in Amsterdam speak english, so you can leave the pocket translator behind (unless you want to speak with other tourists of course).
There are a great...

The Ultimate Guide to Amsterdam by Deiz
Review of Amsterdam (Netherlands) by
Deiz
Advantages: Accessible and eclectic
Disadvantages: Some dodgy areas
...noticing the whores peering out from their glowing-red windows. The famed art galleries are everything you would expect and while Amsterdam may not rival Paris as the city of romance, it is a credible runner up.
It would be impossible to mention Amsterdam without touching upon the infamous Coffee Shops, or hash bars as they are colloquially referred to. All I would ask is that you are not put off visiting Amsterdam for fear of constantly being surrounded by stoned students over from Manchester on a mad weekender, as anybody who has seen such people will know they are neither overly numerous nor any hassle whatsoever. I visted Amsterdam as a student and partook of the local herbal acceptance, an experience I found interesting and definitely enjoyable. I am by no means a spliff quaffing pro-pot campaigner, but it really is hard to see what would...

AMSTERDAM, THE CAPITAL OF CULTURE
Review of Amsterdam in general by
sonic1971
Advantages: culture, history, atmosphere, relaxation, shopping, canals
Disadvantages: road trafic
...AH Amsterdam. Thats really all you need to say. But i will go on. You think of Amsterdam and what do you visualise. SEX capital of the world. However, it is not always famous for this and stag doos.
Amsterdam is full of atmosphere, culture and history. The City's intensity and historic decor stimulate all the senses. Numerous world cultures are represented in welcoming, multi coloured Amsterdam. This is reflected in the art and culture, the highly varied shops and the many restaurants. The 17th century atmosphere of the canals, the canal side houses and the many monuments form the unique decor which has been known for centuries for its freedom and tolerance. At the same time Amsterdam is a lively, bustling city.
Last year, myself and my new wife spent a week in Amsterdam, for our honeymoon. In the city of love...

Amsterdam for twenty quid a night
Review of Amstel Botel, Amsterdam by
jonathancowley
Advantages: central location, clean, friendly
Disadvantages: no 5 star hotel, but what do you expect?
...The Amstel Botel is a large boat/hotel moored in Amsterdam city centre. It's only 2 minutes from the Central Station in Amsterdam and is very well maintained and great value for money.
When I first heard about this "botel" I thought that the low prices must mean it was quite poorly maintained but I was completely wrong. The rooms, though on the small side, had all the facilities I required like a clean bathroom, TV (with British channels!) and telephone. The receptionists were really helpful and the views from rooms facing out onto the water are excellent.
The food was good and the bar was fine. Even though it's a large hotel (176 rooms) there is a friendly atmosphere and you are located within walking distance of anything you could possibly want to see in Amsterdam. If you want a no-frills, cheap and cheerful place to stay then I...

Great Place
Review of Amsterdam in general by
Liauster
Advantages: !!!
Disadvantages: Slightly dangerous at night
...I recently was fortunate enough to spend some time in Amsterdam, after enjoying the Euro 2000 Soccer Final between France and Italy. After the game, we took the train from Rotterdam to Amsterdam which took an hour.
We arrived at about 3.00am in the morning and our first impressions we quite good. The city really does buzz, and never sleeps. However, if you're going at this time of night, please don't go alone: there are several 'abnormal', for want of a nicer word, up at this hour. But don't let that put you off - we didn't, and within minutes we had found an all night bar.
In the morning, and under light the city changes completely to a busy metropolis - just like home. In fact you wouldn't know you were abroad - if it weren't for the trams! The trams are slightly confusing, but you'll get the hang of it!
All in all, Amsterdam...

Diverse cultured city
Review of Amsterdam (Netherlands) by
Simoncook1
Advantages: Much for the family to see and do
Disadvantages: Certain areas should not be seen by children
...Most of the Netherlands is land that has been recovered from the see, held back by dams and other various methods. The Netherlands boasts a great network of canals, and it is using these canals that is the best way to see Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is a vast sprawling city full of many diverse cultures and possible more of an adult experience. The trips around the city, visiting such sites as 'The worlds smallest house' and various other key points around the city is an exciting way to enjoy Amsterdam. Most of these trips use the vast labyrinth of canals that are more like our modern highways with the amount of traffic. I was particularly interested in the communuites that actually live on canal boats.
As a city, Amserdam is very clean and welcoming. The shops are well kept, and ther are many excellent small shops, as well as some huge chain...

Delta Hotel 42 The Damrak Amsterdam City Centre
Review of Delta Hotel Amsterdam City Centre, Amsterdam by
Serenfach
Advantages: Superb Central Location
Disadvantages: Strict on Room Checkout Times
..., it is an excellent location to relax over a good breakfast whilst watching the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. If you just fancy a snack, a few doors down from the hotel is 'Pizza M Slice' serving the best (yep you've guessed it) pizza in the city. A must try.
If you are travelling to Amsterdam by car (not recommended) the hotel has arranged a 15% discount off parking fees at a car park a few minutes away. Parking is very expensive in the city, and as the public transport is excellent and the majority of attractions are close by, a car really is not needed.
For those of a sporty nature there is a modern fitness centre 20 meters from the hotel, where, in cooperation with the fitness centre, there is a discount for guests.
All in all, the Hotel Delta is an ideal choice for the budget-minded traveler, very reasonable rates and an unbeatable location....
