Reviews of art line holland
live at the warwick arts centre may 5th 2004
Review of Jools Holland by
Kevin_Stanley
Advantages: talented band - boogie woogie baby
Disadvantages: few - tweed suited music teachers dancing in the aisles
...Support
Christopher Holland, Jools’ younger brother, was the support act and was playing his first solo gig.
White Stripe - new album
Christopher played six tracks from his current album including Miss You and Summer Girl and White Stripe from his upcoming album to an appreciative audience.
Skiills
His keyboard skills and singing were both impressive and they served as an enjoyable and chilled-out opening to the far more raucous night of music that followed. There was soon a real party atmosphere in the Warwick Arts Centre.
Genuinely Exciting
And when most current music comes in the form of precocious young groups, each largely indistinguishable from the next and lacking any real musical ability, it was a genuinely exciting, refreshing and even slightly intimidating experience, to watch an 18-piece band...

MMA - Mixed Martial Arts
Review of Martial Arts by
nakedchoke
Advantages: Covers only the things that work
Disadvantages: Hard to find somewhere to train
...knockout, submission or corner throwing in the towel. A new type of stage was built known as the octagon because of its shape this is where the competitors would fight. Standing 5 foot tall and surrounded by a chain link fence this would be the new ring, two man enter one man leaves. It was hoped the small amount of rules would keep this as close to a real situation as possible without being unsafe.
Fighters from around the world were brought together to prove their style was best. These fighters were:
Teila Tuli from Hawaii representing sumo. Most people know that Sumo is a Japanese form of martial art involving large men trying to push each other out of a circle. As you can imagine these overweight and limited skilled fighters dont do well in this type of competition.
Gerard Gordeau from Holland representing savate. Savate...

Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Review of Korda State Of The Art Underwater Carp Fishing Part 2 by
snake_plissken
Advantages: Fish's eye view of your tackle
Disadvantages: You might sell your equipment
...by the Polaris. This is then mixed until it becomes a good paste, If it's a little wet keep adding Polaris until it stiffens. Now you should roll the baits and boil them for about 1min after which they should be placed onto a towel to dry for about 30mins. The bait should then have more flavouring added. This is done by putting a few drops of Buteric acid and some other flavour into a plastic bag, the boilies are then added and rolled until all of the flavours have been absorbed. The resulting boilies can be used straight away or frozen for future use.
Runtime of disc 2 104mins (including bonus material)
Conclusion

This dvd has taken the art of carp fishing to new levels. The analysis of the lines and how they perform underwater is a real eye-opener and one lesson that I will never forget. By choosing the correct line and rig...

A Walk around the Walker Art Gallery
Review of The Walker Art Gallery by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: The Art! The Architecture! Fully accessible for all! Free entry!
Disadvantages: Very Tiring.
...for the incredible and unusual portraits of Alfred Hitchcock and Edgar Allen Poe!
The second exhibition was of jewellery and objects sculpted by Peter Chang. Interesting but completely unwearable!
So that’s the galleries in a nutshell. I’d forgotten just how much there was and how tiring it is! Just before we leave however there are the two downstairs galleries to take a look in. The first, the Craft & Design gallery with walkways lined with glass display cases containing crafts, costumes and other paraphernalia. There are four computers set up with interactive information quiz-style displays. The second is the sculpture room, crammed full with life-sized figures – a little overwhelming.
A little history! The idea for the Walker Art Galley was born in the early 1870s when the Liverpool's art collection became too large for the Library and Museum...

modern art..ppttthhh.
Review of The Museum of Modern Art by
HobKnobette
Advantages: something to do on a bored Saturday
Disadvantages: not that entertaining
...in the art world. But really…can it be that hard to take a paintbrush and splatter a few different depressing shades of black and white on a canvas?
If this is truly a moneymaking area of art I should be digging my old finger-paints from under my bed and nicking some paper from my printer tray. I’d streak a few lines here, spatter some dots there, and call my agent.
I don’t want to offend, because honestly, I have seen some tremendous work that would be considered Modern. One of my best friends has chosen art as her life passion, and I commend her. But I remain confused as to why Picasso had to suffer through chopping off half his ear, and then waiting for years after his death before he was given recognition, when what seems like an overwhelming number of modern artists are making tank-loads of money through gluing a couple of chairs...

SMART ART IN THE HEART OF GLASGOW
Review of Gallery of Modern Art (Glasgow) by
anneyo
Advantages: Free, thought-provoking art
Disadvantages: Some exhibits are on the gruesome side, or of an explicit nature
...in the Water Gallery are other shining examples of modern art and here we find a couple of large pictures of lines. Hmm. Well, when you stand in front of them, the eye plays tricks on you and you get the impression of a heat haze. Here also, are a series of black and white photographs, some by Henri Cartier Bresson, and they demonstrate the immediacy of photography as an art form. Images of poverty and starvation are poignant in the extreme in the works of George Rodger and Sebastio Salgado.
Temporary exhibitions are also housed here and in the adjacent rooms. Some of these are unsuitable for children.
Onwards and upwards, to the Air Gallery, the large space, lit by pyramidal roof-lights, is home to works by Beryl Cook, she of ‘fat lady’ fame and John Byrne who is also responsible for TV works like ‘Tutti Frutti’...

Holland and Barrett...It's worth a look
Review of Holland & Barrett (Shop) by
gem412
Advantages: They pay my wages and sell some pretty cool stuff
Disadvantages: Some things are expensive!
...I have been working in a Holland and Barrett shop for the last five months, so I am very aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the shop.
If you don't know much about Holland and Barrett, or have never been to one of their shops, it's definately worth a look, even if it is just out of curiosity!
Holland and Barret have a large chain of health food shops around the UK, and they are not only found in major cities, but in smaller towns too, so chances are you have one near you.
The produce they sell ranges from vitamin supplements, to diet and vegan foods, to special ingredients and essential oils which you might struggle to find elsewhere.
I know for a fact that it's not just health freaks that shop in Holland and Barrett, as I serve a wide range of customers who come to the shop for different reasons.
My branch...

Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock & Roll
Review of Bang Bang Rock 'n' Roll [Digipak] - Art Brut by
carl.mcqueen
Advantages: Rock and roll....comedic style!
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
...'s not irony and it's not rock and roll", but anyway, moving onto more pressing matters - the song itself is a perfect example of what Art Brut are attempting to achieve - music domination through singing about things that they know - they formed a band, because it's cool, simple as that.
Second track "My Little Brother" goes on, literally, about Argos' little brother, who just seems to have discovered rock and roll, regardless of the fact he's twenty two....
Yes, slightly obscure subject matter does help with the humour side of things, but it's important to remember that the music itself is not bog-standard, basic, factory line music - there are plenty of melodies and complex enough structures to show that they have actually thought about some of this, rather than just written three chords and a drum beat when drunk, like when many...

Magdalena
Advantages: Only art college in the area, friendly atmosphere, lots of courses.
Disadvantages: Not great for part-time students, a little lacking on the aesthetic side!
...OVERVIEW
----------------
Cleveland College of Art and Design has three campuses in the Tees Valley (North East England). It has been established for over 100 years and is currently the only independent, specialist arts college in the North East.
Two of the campuses are in Middlesbrough, on Burlam Road and Green Lane, and the third is in Hartlepool, in Church Square.
The college offers a fairly large range of courses leading to various qualifications, including NCFE, GNVQ, BTEC, and Foundation Degrees (FdA).
The courses are really too extensive to list them all on here, but I will give an overview - for a full prospectus you can visit the CCAD website at www.ccad.ac.uk. The courses include:
Art and Design
Fashion
Fine Art
Graphic Design
Media
Multimedia
TV and Film Production
Photography
