Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke
Review of Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke by  brereton66

Advantages: Almost a good book
Disadvantages: Shallow narrative and two dimensional characters

...Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke I bought this on whim when I was recently stocking up on books for my daily commute. I had no idea that Ethan Hawke was now writing books but was swayed by the cover art and blurb and was intrigued to see the kind of work he was putting out. Pretty thin reasons for buying a book but there you go. Here's what I thought. As an actor Hawke has been around for many years now, first coming to prominence in the saccharine Robin Williams blub fest that was Dead Poet's Society. Since that time he has appeared in many Hollywood films of varying quality but has managed to build himself a solid reputation as a semi-serious thesp. As an author he published his first novel, 'The Hottest State', in the late nineties and followed it several years later with 'Ash Wednesday'. 'The Hottest State' is a tale... Read review

Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust?
Review of Ashes To Ashes - Series 1 - Complete DVD by  MizzMolko

Advantages: Philip Glenister as the wonderful Gene Hunt, some funny moments.
Disadvantages: Poor casting, trying too hard to be Life On Mars

...with really odd make up! I won't spoil exactly who pops up in case you haven't seen it but it ties very much in with the Bowie music video of 'Ashes To Ashes'. CAST AND CHARACTERS Although if you've seen the original show you'll be fairly familiar with many of the characters, a lot has happened in the eight years since we saw the gang drive off into the sunset in that copper Cortina. Although on the surface many of them may have stayed the same, it's obvious that some incidents depicted on screen had a huge impact on the way some members of the team looked at policing. DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) - Known from Life on Mars as the absolute epitome of hard men, Gene Hunt is the show's biggest comedy asset; Glenister has a way of barking out the Chief Inspector's one liners in a hilarious but completely believable fashion. However... Read review

Sheffield Wednesday Lets Lift them back
Review of Sheffield Wednesday by  sheffwed

Advantages: Got the best fans in the world
Disadvantages: seem to be slipping faster and faster

...Like most Wednesdayites I have followed my team since a very young age through the thick and the thin, but as the years go on we seem to slipping further and further and finding harder to keep up with the big boys! I feel that that this is down to the certain bad management of a Mr Dave Richards. Year after year he allowed us to get further into debt and continued to pick second rate managers who bought second rate players. David Pleat and Danny Wilson were both left in the job for far too long and due to this we find ourselves back in Division 1 Sheffield Wednesday must be the only club I know who do not buy players and sell them on at a profit!!! Like someone said in another article you only have to mention the names Emerson Thome, Benito Carbone and Pauolo Di Canio and probably one of the best forwards in Europe Darko Kovacevic who... Ashes to Ashes - Lust to Lust!
Review of Ashes To Ashes [Digipak] - Various Artists by  KarenUK

Advantages: Some good tracks
Disadvantages: Some weak tracks

...I'm not usually a big fan of soundtrack CDs. Sometimes they work and the music is evocative of a great film or television series. But often, the music tracks are too varied and you'll find you like some and hate others. But I decided to buy the soundtrack CD to Ashes to Ashes, because the music is integral to the television series and while watching it, I often remarked on how good the music was. Ashes to Ashes is set in 1981 when I was 11-12 and fairly regularly buying singles, so I did think it would be worth buying this album. The 1980s theme of the series is great and it is reproduced well in this CD. The album has twenty songs from the time, plus a couple of short interludes and the theme tune to the TV series. It lasts a total of 69 minutes. The CD is a Digipak version, whereas I really prefer the more sturdy box... Read review

Wednesday till i die
Review of Sheffield Wednesday by  slimsuncleronnie

Advantages: NEW MANAGER,WILL TO WIN IS COMING BACK
Disadvantages: LOSS OF QUALITY PLAYERS

...I have supported sheffield wednesday since i was about 7 years old and ever since then our seasons have been going pretty well and have not had to many run ins with relegation, until last season we had an awful time and got relegated to the first division. The pride and confidence has gone down in the players and it seems like they have no will to win. But i still had great confidence that the club would bounce right back and be an easy contender to come straight back up to the best league in the world'the premiership'. But there was a surprize in store for them and now find themselves struggling to stay in the first division and going down to the second division. We have lost most of our best players including Andy Booth to Huddersfield and Gilles De Bilde to Aston Villa which i think have rocked the club quite badly.I think the best... Read review

Debut album from Wednesday 13
Review of Transylvania 90210 (Songs Of Death Dying And The Dead) [PA] - Wednesday 13 by  un002419

Advantages: Catchy songs
Disadvantages: Patchy at times

...If you liked Murderdolls then you're going to love the new Wednesday 13 album! Entitled 'Transylvania 90210: Songs Of Death, Dying & The Dead', the album certainly lives upto its name. The main subject matter of the album is obviously as the title suggests 'Death'. Inspiration for the album is clearly taken from '70s horror movies as is evident in the songs. Although the album isn't flawless, it is packed full of guitar riffs and catchy choruses. The lyrics are basically about horror, movies, murder and zombies, which, serious as it may sound is actually portrayed in a humourous way. The first single release from the album 'I Walked With A Zombie' is inspired by a horror movie of the same name, it has a catchy chorus which basically is 'I Walked With A Zombie' screamed until your lungs collapse. The best track on the album for me... Read review

the best way to see Ash - live
Review of Ash - Free All Angels Promo tour by  andrew_kenrick

Advantages: Ash, live, in front of me
Disadvantages: it had to come to an end

...name of the tour: Free All Angels venue: Wulfrun Hall city: Wolverhampton, England date: 28th April 2001 As the train hurtled through the rain towards Wolverhampton, my mind was cast back to the last time I saw Ash live in concert. That day will be forever ingrained in my memory as it was my first concert ever, and because it was something of an adventure in itself to get there. It was October, 1998, and Britain was experiencing some of its worst weather in a decade. Ash were playing at Hereford leisure centre, about an hours drive from my house. Unfortunately, Hereford is a riverside town and so a little prone to flooding. As we neared the outskirts of the town we were confronted by the police who politely informed us that the only way into Hereford, over the river and through the town centre, was blocked because... Ash- Intergalactic Sonic 7's
Review of Free All Angels [ECD] - Ash by  jennykellett

Advantages: Catchy songs
Disadvantages: A couple of songs which should not be on it

...What can i say... this album is packed full of Ash goodness. They've released 4 albums, and this is a round up of the best tracks of those 4. Tim Wheeler is a fabulous song writer and guitarist, the songs he writes are catchy, and good quality. Some bands nowadays release such rubbish, unfortunately some people still like it. But if you want well written rock/pop songs, both lyrically and musically, head straight for this album! Ash have been around for quite a while- nearly 10 years, and have kept getting better and better. Here is a round up of the tracks on the album: BURN BABY BURN What a track! Very catchy, quality tune. "burn baby burn!" Ash really slam it out, and get into it. Nothing bad about this song, great bass line. One of their best ever.***** ENVY This track is only on this album. It's pretty good, good... Read review

History of the Ashes Sport DVD
Review of History Of The Ashes DVD by  costas1234

Advantages: Read Opp
Disadvantages: Read Opp

...Back in 1882 a test match series between England and Australia started a regular feature for cricket fans. The 1882 series provided a victory for England, and it was the Australian's who got a request granted to play a fourth test match, and whilst they won, it was England who got to keep the famous ern where the ashes are kept. The series is played every 2 years, though only once every 4 years back here in England. This DVD last 2 hours 11 minutes, and it provides a historical platform in terms of cricketing. Clips shown of great catches, supreme batting performances, and legendary bowlers of cricket's all time, hall of cricketing fame. It also is interesting to see how the War affected English cricket. The results of the Ashes are mainly Australia's dominance of the Ashes tournaments, whereas England's succes in this strongly... Read review

From The Ashes...
Review of From The Ashes - Pennywise by  heideroosjes

Advantages: Quality songs throughout
Disadvantages: Same Pennywise sound becomes a little tedious

...the band's music ever since. California's most widely recognised punk rock quintet, Pennywise, are back again with 'From The Ashes', their 8th studio full-lengther. It is a remarkable improvement from their sub-standard last offering, 'Land Of The Free' 'From The Ashes' is a portrayal of what is right and wrong with the United States, jibing in part at idolatry and misguided patriotism and pointing out in 'God Save The USA'that it is the President, not the country who is to blame. The title track, 'From The Ashes', extraordinarily bolts out front on this album, and tells of how youth should be savoured, with lyrics sich as "we can we go back to those days/where everything was simple, and nothing could ever change/Can we go back to those days/we didn't ever care at all/I wish I could remain back in yesterday'. Pennywise vouch... Read review
