Superb Location
Review of Asia Hotel, Bangkok by  daylehall

Advantages: centrally located, plenty of facilities
Disadvantages: check in was a bit slow

...Location The Asia Bangkok Hotel is centrally located and is near to Bangkok's main attractions. It is about a 15 minute journey from the airport making it a convenient hotel to stay in if you are only in Bangkok for a few days. Travel Time from The UK We flew from London Gatwick to Bangkok, via Doha. To get to Bangkok, we took two six and a half hour flights. Price We paid £980 per person for three nights in Bangkok and eight nights in Ko Samui which I found to be fairly reasonable considering the flights are long haul. We stayed at the Asia Bangkok on a bed and breakfast basis. Arrival And Check In We were greeted by the very friendly staff once our taxi arrived at the hotel. I must admit that we were kept waiting for about 10 minutes before we were allowed to check in which was a bit of a pain as we were quite tired... Read review

Bangkok - Excellent for Shopping
Review of Bangkok in general by  dance

Advantages: Cheap cheap cheap
Disadvantages: Traffic !!!

...Thailand is the most popular Asian country as it offers both city life and beautiful beaches. I like it for the superb shopping it offers and also the food !! Don't worry if you can't take spicy food. Not all Thai food are spicy. This Bangkok trip is more on shopping experience in Bangkok so if you need to know things like when does the Grand Palace open, I can't help. Day 1 We flew in to Bangkok Airport on a Thursday morning from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). We took the first AirAsia flight out (which departed at 8.05am) flight duration was 2 hours 5 minutes. Bangkok time is one hour behind Malaysia time. The airport is huge (it's the new Bangkok airport) and there are a few immigration exits which will lead you to the baggage reclaim area so pay attention to the screen to see where you can claim your bags before clearing immigration... The best hotel in the whole world!
Review of The Peninsula -, Bangkok by  pinseyt

Advantages: Affordable luxury, gorgeous rooms
Disadvantages: When the wind is blowing the wrong way, you can smell the pongy river from the pool

...Okay, the above opinion is based entirely on my own experience and I am sure a lot of people will disagree with me. Especially my parents who say that I am prone to exaggeration, plus Conde Nast Traveller magazine who only ranks the Peninsula Bangkok 5th best in the Asia (leisure travel) category for 2003. However, having done a reasonable amount of business and leisure travel over the years, particularly in Asia, the Peninsula Bangkok (let’s call it “PB” to avoid typing fatigue) is the best hotel in which I’ve ever stayed. And believe me, after being spoilt by business travel, I am very difficult to please. I have stayed at the PB three times in total and always for leisure. The first time was in July 2002, when we (me and hubby-to-be) decided to have a last-night splurge after a fortnight in Thailand. We loved it so much... Read review

A FEW NIGHTS IN BANGKOK
Review of Bangkok in general by  purdy

Advantages: Lots to do and see
Disadvantages: Very hot humid and hectiv

...At the end of May/ beginning of June 2004 we headed off to Thailand for a 2 centre holiday. It was a special treat – my 30th birthday to be precise! Ive always wanted to travel to Asia – the mysticism, and oriental delights have always intrigued me. I settled on Thailand – why – l love the food! Plus there is the choice of both city lights and the beach bumming about too – what more could a girl ask for! We spent in total – 5 nights in Bangkok and then flew down to the islands and had a further 7 nights in Phuket. To combine both parts of our trip into one review would have me typing out reams and reams of pages so lm going to split them up. TRAVEL We flew from Belfast to London Heathrow with BMI – flights can be found on www.flybmi.com they are the only carrier to fly from... Read review

The Amari Watergate Hotel Bangkok - fabulous!
Review of Amari Watergate Hotel, Bangkok by  e_lucy

Advantages: great for shopping, great customer services, large clean modern rooms
Disadvantages: maybe a bit "out of reality" for those wanting to experience the real Bangkok

...Like the traveller on the previous review I was also unsure of what to expect about the Amari Watergate Hotel. We were offered a great deal with a travel agent with 2 nights for the price of 3, which for 3 nights in a 5 star hotel for £150 seemed criminal to refuse! After making the booking we then checked out the hotel online and it looked great. We were not dissapointed. The Amari is set in Bangkoks main commercial area with 3 of the largest shopping malls within walking distance (however, if walking in 95% humidity across frogger style traffic isnt your style a taxi to the furthest shopping mall - the Siam Centre is 40bahts (75p) The hotel provided us with a free taxi from the airport which was clean and airconditioned and it whisked us away to the foyre of the hotel in about 40 minutes, we were received at the hotel... Bangkok Palace Hotel
Review of Palace Hotel, Bangkok by  jrc1984

Advantages: Good cheap hotel, good facilities
Disadvantages: Odd location, under the expressway!

...This is a very good hotel if you are visiting Bangkok for a brief time. I mostly took trips from the hotel to the main tourist sights so did not walk into the main bit of the city from the hotel, if you did it was quite a slog, especially when its really hot. The hotel itself was good, spacious, well air conditioned rooms with good bathrooms. The was tea/coffee making facilities aswell as a well stocked +cheap mini bar. The hotel had a safe room to put your valuables in for a small fee. The restaurant was good for breakfast...theres nothing better than cold thai green curry for breakfast!! There is also a nice bar in the hotel lobby which is lovely to sit in, in the evenings if you dont want to wander to far, it often has live music/singers. If you do feel like venturing far, the hotel runs a taxi service or you can hail one... Read review

Booking Hotels online with Asia-Hotels.com
Review of Asia Hotels by  mickey1949

Advantages: Easy to use and competitive prices
Disadvantages: None

...If you want to book a hotel room in Asia, The Pacific Rim or Australia over the Internet with confidence and be sure that your room will be waiting for you when you arrive and at the price you agreed to pay, then your first choose must be www.asia-hotels.com . Their web site is well laid out, easy to navigate and secure. I have used the site on numerous occasions to book hotel rooms in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore and each time the price has been considerably less that other well-known web sites. Where no price is available for a specific month, if you email Asia hotels they will get back to you with a price that you can accept or decline. They have two methods of room booking one where you pay when you make the reservation and the other, which is slightly more expensive, where you make payment direct to the hotel. I... Read review

Grand China Princess Hotel - Bangkok
Review of Grand China Princess Chinatown, Bangkok by  daylehall

Advantages: In centre of town, clean rooms
Disadvantages: food was expensive

...I found this hotel to be in a very central location which was good for us as we were only in Bangkok for three nights. The room had air conditioning which came in very handy. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the sheets were changed everyday. We were in the middle of the town and near to the Golden Palace which is a tourist hotspot, we were also near to the main town and all the shops were easily accesable. There were plenty of banks surrounding our hotels so changing up out money was very easy. The night markets were a 10 minute walk from the hotel and the red light district (which is worth a look for the culture shock) was a 15 minute walk. There were quite a few tailors and other shops further away from out hotel which we could get to by a 'tuk tuk' car and this was a very cheap method of transport (about £2... Read review

What's the real Bangkok?
Review of Bangkok in general by  mayfairman

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...I lived in Bangkok for 4 years and got to know it first as a stranger then as a semi-native. Well, what's it like? It's most famous for two things, traffic and sex, and there's plenty of both. The traffic has improved over the last few years thanks to some much needed road building and most recently a mass transit system. The journey into town from the airport is only 30 minutes now at most times of day. To get from the best hotel The Oriental (some would say the best in the world) to the central business district can still be a trial, but people on business tend to stay at the Sukhothai or the Regent anyway. The Thai attitude to sex is definitely different to the Western attitude, partly because of the religion and partly because of a desire to please, and partly no doubt because of poverty. All I would say is that AIDS is very... Read review

Davis Hotel Bangkok
Review of Davis, Bangkok by  jackwilliams86

Advantages: Amazing rooms with amazing decor, Quiet area, Rooftop Pool, Gym, Free shuttle to skytrain stop
Disadvantages: None

...My partner and I stayed at the Davis Bangkok last year whilst on our gap year, and it was the most memorable hotel that we visited. Slightly out of town, and reasonably dear (£45 pere night) located in the quieter Sukhumvit area, we felt that it was a good base to rest in before entering the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, via the skytrain. Our room was in the annex that is a one minute walk from the main hotel, this section being more recently built. The hotel prides iself on being a 'boutique' hotel with ultimate care taken over interior design, which showed throughout. The room was decorated in a contemporary style and though the view wasn't spectacular, the room made up for it. The bathroom was large and had marble floors, with a bath and seperate shower. There was a large mirror and the lighting was well placed. A nice featuree... Read review
