ATLANTIC VILLAGE
Review of Atlantic Village by
dlhealey
Advantages: Shops under cover; Good play area for kids; Easy parking.
Disadvantages: Not much choice in 'cafe' food.
...I had a lovely time visiting the ATLANTIC VILLAGE. Its in North Devon not far from Barnstable and Bideford, well signposted and quite easy to find. Lots of free parking so quite hassle free.
OK – so why would you want to go to the Atlantic Village – about 35 factory outlet shops all selling goodies at well below High street prices. The shops factory seconds, cancelled orders, last seasons’ lines, samples and sale items. You could expect to save between 30% and 50% depending on the shop and time of year.
Who’s there?
For the ladies there is:

A great way to cross the Atlantic
Review of Virgin Atlantic Airways - VIR by
pabdesign
Advantages: About as comfortable as flights get, great package of free stuf fthat they give you.
Disadvantages: Never a stewardess around when you need one.
...Now I’m not a fan of flying, I’ll make that clear at the start. It’s not that I have a fear of crashing to a watery grave in the mid-Atlantic, or the thought of watching my family disappear out of the roof in a mid-air collision. It’s the style in which you travel.
A flight home from America usually consists of being elbowed or snored at by the unconscious person next to you, eating prison food, being kicked in the back for 8 hours by the world’s most obnoxious seven year old, and not being allowed to smoke.
I was quite surprised by the care that Virgin Atlantic take to make your trip a comfortable one. For example (and I don’t know if other airlines have taken this on board), there is no more trying to see over the 7 foot gorilla in front of you if you are trying to watch the movie. Each seat has...

I could relate to this
Review of Murder on the Mauretania - Conrad Allen by
poet831
Advantages: This is a good book to curl up with, on the beach, under a shade tree -just a good read!
Disadvantages: None - unless you don't like this style of book.
...describes. Conrad Allen weaves a tale which keeps you thinking and trying to get one step ahead of the book. Who is stealing from the other passengers? What are the various relationships and secrets of the group who want to monopolize Genevieve? What about the two luckless Irishman - will they get the gold bullion in the cargo hold?
Dillman's day to day role is that of an undercover private detective on the Mauretania, a ship carrying twelve tons of gold bullion across the Atlantic to help bolster America's failing economy. He and Genevieve mingle with other passengers, he in steerage and second class, Genevieve adapting well to the luxuries of first class. Soon after leaving Liverpool, the ship encounters a serious storm amid which one of the passengers disappears - is it murder? Or was he accidently washed overboard?
Allen writes...

Get rewarded well for travel!
Review of Virgin Atlantic Flying Club by
pefidler
Advantages: Good way of getting rewarded for ravelling
Disadvantages: Not as good as some north american airlines
...African Airways and US Airways. Exactly how many miles you earn depends on the airline and class booked, of which there are too many to mention here! More details at: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/frequentflyer/fcpartners/airlines/inde x.jsp
You can also earn miles with Hotels, Financial products, car hire, etc.
Any miles earnt won't expire so long as you earn at least some miles every three years.
Tier levels
--------------
There are three different tier levels that you can gain with Virgin's Flying Club: Red, Silver and Gold. There is also a very high tier level, but this is out of reach of most people and isn't detailed everywhere.
The tier level benefits run for between 12-13 months depending on when you reach the tier level. This is normally for the next year. For example:
Between Jan and April 2007, you earn enough tier points...

Two Men In A Boat
Review of The Crossing. Conquering the Atlantic in the World's Toughest Rowing Race - James Cracknell, Ben Fogle by
StereoMike1983
Advantages: Good account of two men conquering the elements
Disadvantages: May be of limited interest if you weren't aware of the events at the time
...For most sane people the prospect of spending up to 2 months at sea, in a vessel only 25ft in length, with someone you barely know, would be the last thing that they would consider. However, not everyone is like this and this was the challenge accepted by double Olympic champion James Cracknell and TV presenter Ben Fogle. This book is the account of their voyage and a thoroughly interesting read.
I first became aware of the Atlantic Rowing Race when, as captain of my college boat club, I received a flyer inviting me to enter the challenge. I did consider it, for a split second, but soon the reality hit and the flyer ended up in the bin. A few months later I was sat at my computer and saw an article saying how the TV presenter Ben Fogle was planning on rowing across the Atlantic Ocean with a yet to be announced partner. I had first...

Atlantic City - Face Lift
Review of Atlantic City (California) by
links2see
Advantages: Beautiful, relaxing get away
Disadvantages: Can be expensive in the summer months.
...Look out Las Vegas! Atlantic City is in the process of a $1.2 billion face lift. This will include two new casino's, a new tunnel linking one side of the city to the other (less traffic congestion), new attractions, fixing up the Historic Atlantic City Lighthouse, knocking down and rebuilding older houses. They've already added an ice skating rink (affiliated with the Philadelphia Flyers), some new attractions, added on to current casino's, and they have two minor league teams (baseball and basketball). They also added a beautiful new art museum on the boardwalk over looking the ocean. Other than the casino's and the boardwalk there's the beautiful white sandy beaches. Unlike many other beaches in the area, it doesn't cost anything to access the beaches in the summer....

More than I ever expected!
Review of One Pass (Continental Airlines) by
Big-Al
Advantages: Frequent Flyer Bonus Miles
Disadvantages: Changes to the Elite Rules Next Year...
...I started flying with Continental only last year, and on my first trip to the States I met a lady who is now my fiancee, so I have been travelling across the Atlantic quite a bit! I don't know why I joined this scheme, but I am glad I did! I am amazed at how quickly the miles build up thanks to their very generous Elite scheme - after just 5 Transatlantic flights (that is flights, not round trips!) you will reach Silver Elite status, giving a 50% milage bonus, so a typical round trip to New York earns 10,000 miles (or 11,000 if you book online). Another 5 Transatlantic legs sees Gold Elite status and 100% bonus miles, then Platinim Elite and 125% bonus... Also with Elite status comes the end of queues at airports - check in at the first class desk and go straight onto the aircraft when they open first class. The Elite...

Springsteens Darkest Days
Review of Nebraska - Bruce Springsteen by
mikeydred
Advantages: One of the most intense collections of songs ever
Disadvantages: May too intense and raw for some
..., plaintive despair of “Atlantic City” results in one of Springsteen’s most enduring songs.
The album in undoubtedly Springsteen , but he recalls the spirit of Woody Guthrie and creates one of the most intense albums ever recorded. You cannot fail to be moved by this collection of songs.
Recorded in the days of vinyl limitations, so you only get ten songs, but they are worth their weight in gold, very black gold.
The album is available on mid price and should have a place in everyone’s music collection. As I’ve stated it is not easy listening , but a rewarding experience nonetheless....

Best Flight I Ever Had
Review of Virgin Atlantic Airways - VIR by
mdstone
Advantages: Minature TV, free drinks
Disadvantages: can't really think of many
...I had been on many other airlines before I travelled on Virgin Atlantic and none of them even come close to comparing with them. I have been with Virgin Atlantic twice to go to America and they have been the best flights I have ever had. In each seat on the plane is a free welcome gift consisting of headphones, notepads, pens and numerous other items to keep you ocupied. In front of every seat is a minature TV with 5 channels on it and during the flight they show five different movies on each channel and then repeat them so that you get a chance to watch every one. Drinks are served for free which includes soft drinks and alcohol, and you can have as much as you want. Meals are served at breakfast time, dinner time and lunch time, depending on the time of your travel and snaks are offered free in between. All this is for economy...
