AT verses ATX - confused?
Review of Member Advice on General Computing Issues by
m.holmes
Advantages: ATX is easy is use/build a PC
Disadvantages: Less choice in some cases
...-cut holes in the back of the case. You won't believe how much neater things are inside your case when you go ATX.
I won't touch AT now I've tasted ATX. AT is a dying breed - but there is nothing wrong with it though, just will take more cabling and set-up time. It drives me mad working on my AT machine at home. I can hardly see the M/B for cables. If you stay with AT go for a large case.
If I build a system for someone - I go ATX because it take's half the time to build.
Other on this site will be able to offer reasons to go AT though...ATX is just my choice.
Question - When buying an ATX case and power supply, with the intent of doing future upgrades, are there any features I should look for?
As with an AT system - Go for a mid tower. This will give you plenty of room for expansion. Buy a decent make is the best advice really. I rate Denco...

Worst Value Board In The World
Review of PC Chips M598 by
Trancemasta
Advantages: Cheap.
Disadvantages: That's about it, it's nasty and poor motherboard layout.
...I bought this board purely on cost, £40 at a computer market when I putting my first machine together. The board features On-board VGA and Sound, in the form Of SiS 5595 and CMI 8330.
The board was reasonably easy to fit, however, this is AT board and I fitted this in a ATX Midi Tower Case.
Problems that I have is that I operate 2 hard drives, 2 CD-ROM drives and two floptical drives, a slightly overclocked K6-2 333Mhz at 337Mhz and I can't operate the proper 3.5x95Mhz on the board as the max bus speed is only 75Mhz. The problem is that the poor case layout makes my case worse than Spaghetti junction....

Antec Nine Hundred Advanced Gaming Case
Review of Antec Tower by
avenger7855
Advantages: plenty of drive bays, and excellent cooling
Disadvantages: mother board tray isn't removable, and component installation isn't tooless
...to various speeds (400 / 600 / 800 RPM ) for cooling. Also at the top of the case is a convenient storage tray for MP3 player or camera ect. Located at the top as well are the power and re set buttons as well as the external ports such as the microphone and headphone jack socket, fire wire port, and 2 USB ports.
On the Left hand side of the case is a large perspecs window, with plenty of ventilation and a port for an optional 120mm fan for added cooling.
At the rear of the case an IO shield plate and blue L.E.D 120mm fan are included, as well as 7 expansion slots and an opening for a standard ATX power supply.
The case fits all standard ATX and Micro ATX form factor mother boards. Located inside at the base of the case, are 4 rubber mounts for the power supply to rest on, this is done to prevent the power supply from getting scratched...

A great server for starters.
Review of ASUS Intel 820 Chipset P3C2000 - motherboard - ATX - i820 by
andycharger
Advantages: Good server board
Disadvantages: Low amount of expandable memory slots
...,printers,Web cams and joysticks all seem redundant as far as Servers go but its nice to have the facility in case the board is being used at home or in standalone form.
All of this sits on a circuit board in ATX configuration. This means it will fit inside most ATX Desktop boxes and towers.
Please do check it will fit inside yours before ordering as some companies such as Dell mach odd shaped cases.
A new case to hold this will cost about £40.
The motherboard itself is £205 from Dabs. Quite expensive but does an awful lot for its money.
Best uses are, as I have said, in small usage servers. Its not going to provide support for 100`s of users with only capacity for 512Mb of RAM but it will suit a smaller office....

Compaq SR2125UK
Review of Compaq Presario Media Center SR2125UK - Pentium D 915 2.8 GHz by
matt_nichols
Advantages: Very Upgradable, Cheaply Priced, Very Reliable.
Disadvantages: The nVidia 7500LE is by no means an efficent card, No front case fan.
...I have found the Compaq SR2125UK a very powerful machine, I bought it as a secondary machine from PCWorld back in May 2007. When I first bought it I didn't realise it's full potential of what it's very upgradable motherboard can have. It's processor which comes shipped with it is an Intel Pentium D 915 which is around one of the first Dual Core processors around and is now starting to age a little, but this machine will happily take any Intel Core 2 Duo's. It'll also take up to 4GB of PC5300 DDR2 RAM and any PCIe x16 graphic card (with a PSU upgrade).
So onto my first experience with this Compaq, after it had been delivered in a massive 4x4x4 foot box I was at first a little dissapointed to find a Micro ATX tower (smaller size computer) as alot of these towers which I've had experiences with have had cooling problems. So now all...
