Can't afford air con? read on!
Review of Homebase air cooler ACS-120 by  kat74_uk

Advantages: Functions, value
Disadvantages: Technical help from Homebase

.... However- what it does do is blow out and circulate cool air, rather than a normal fan which merely circulates warm stale air around the room. Then the next prob, nowhere in Essex had any in stock. I called more than 35 stores, at various loctions. We spent 3 hours driving to several Curry's and Comet's- as they weren't answering their phones (grr). No joy. All our argos stores were out of stock. I wouldn't give up, I know our air quality in my area is bad & we were living in unbearable heat. I started calling up stores again, but this time I did it via head office's- Argos explained they won't have any for at least two weeks! B&Q none, but Homebase had ONE! One unit located 35 miles from me, so head office reserved it & we collected it. Unbeknown to me, it wasn't a 'challenge air cooler' as is advertised on their site... Read review

You can do it if you B&Q it - just not quickly.
Review of B&Q Flatpack Kitchen by  iainc

Advantages: Good quality kitchen for a low price
Disadvantages: Time spent on poor delivery, shoddy goods, and misinformation

...of kitchen, 3 of which you can buy off the shelf (and which are fairly nasty) and between 5 and 10 of which are usually on “special offer”. The range is good, and there is a wide variety in the pricing from relatively cheap but durable laminate doors to expensive solid wood doors. We chose Modern Cherry, an order only Kitchen, which was 50% off. ----------- Planning ----------- The most important first step in buying a B&Q kitchen (or any kitchen) is planning. I cannot emphasis this enough. Measure the walls of the kitchen and decide how far you want units. Then it’s down to the boring job of deciding which units to put where. B&Q give you a floor planning guide on-line which you can print out and draw your kitchen on. Once you have worked out exactly the units that you want and fitted them all in, rip up the beautiful kitchen plan... Read review

I should be a shareholder in B and Q
Review of B & Q (Shop) by  Bevdav

Advantages: Literally a one stop shop
Disadvantages: running out of stock, could do with a points reward card

...sell, some vary in price but the main ones are £3.98 each, they seem to stick to tiles with stick adhesive pads on them. They are quite a nice way of tarting up plain boring tiles. I’ll go on to the choice of tiles in the bathroom section. Lino, or cushion flooring, we didn’t buy from B&Q we found it cheaper from a small carpet warehouse I won’t mention the name because it would mean nothing to anyone living outside Stockport. The same lino in B&Q was £6 a meter, and it was the 9ft ish wide type they had. I paid £3.50 a meter for mine from the workshop but it was the 7ft ish wide type but I paid £91 for enough lino to cover the kitchen. The corridor separating the bathroom and the bathroom, so I was extremely pleased with the choice and we got free delivery as well. B&Qs looked thicker and more cushioned so... Read review

B&Q - Bloody Qrap!
Review of B & Q (Shop) by  Slug

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, too big to find anything, poor parking

...I have been a regular visitor to my local Huddersfield branch of B&Q for some years. When it opened in the mid 90’s, Huddersfield was the proud location for the biggest DIY superstore in Europe; a somewhat dubious boast. While the mantle has no doubt by now moved onto some other equally obscure town in the north of England, the store is indeed impressively huge. It took over a good proportion of the old Huddersfield Town football ground, a ground that saw generations of football fans watching their team slide gently into decline. The ground closed after the tightened Health and Safety regulations of the 1980’s. As a most reluctant DIY’er, I normally spend my time in that great cavern of a warehouse tromping through endless aisles looking for some such exciting product like wood glue, or wall filler. After I have finally located my... Read review

Flooring to go !!! - B&Q style.
Review of B&Q Flooring by  marmiladey

Advantages: Cost effective, loads of choice. Helpful resources to assist the D.I Y-er.
Disadvantages: packaging not always effective.

...option available at B&Q. Once again in making comparisons., at other outlets the price is middle of the road subject to personal choice. For an area 3.35 x 2.43 the cost excluding underlay and trims was just under £100.00 . Bargain .! Once again, relatively easy to lay . Good quality and effect once in situ. Easily maintained. C) Down stair toilet . "Ceramic tiles." Glazed tiles .... a huge selection is available. ! Purchase options vast . Single tiles, decorative, packs of tiles, colour ranges, designer, unusual, (pebbles, single motif, ) the list goes on and on. As does the price list. The cheapest being £1.30, increasing as to personal choice per tile . The packs of tiles are not so varied , but the selection is good . Again the prices vary accordingly. when comparing prices at different outlets B&Q rates highly for choice... Read review

B and Q did it all for my dining room
Review of B & Q (Shop) by  joannavos

Advantages: Price, near home, wide range of items
Disadvantages: finding what you are looking for can sometimes be a bit difficult

...My husband and I have spent the last 6 months trying to redecorate our dining. We have lived in our new house for about 18 months. When we took the wall paper off the walls we discovered that the plaster was very dry and consequently came off with the paper. We tried plastering but that proved difficult too as the moisture was sucked into the walls and it dried and cracked straight away. We tried to put lining paper up to paint over but as the plaster was so dry and cracked it looked awful. Then my brother-in-law visited and told us about a Dulux paint/filler. We went to B&Q (after searching elsewhere for it unsuccessfully)and bought rollers and gloss for the woodwork and used the choose-the-colour-of-your-paint-yourself-and-we'll-mix-it-for-you-paint! I though that was brilliant. 1200 colours to choose from, and a member... Read review

Our second home is at B and Q
Review of B & Q (Shop) by  Biffa

Advantages: Loads of choice, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: Too much temptation

...For some reason we always seem to buy houses that need quite a bit of work doing on them, so it's no wonder that we always seem to be popping down to B&Q for something, as we generally tend to do the work ourselves. Our last house needed a new kitchen and bathroom fitting, so off we went. The bathroom suit (bath, loo, washbasin) cost us less than £200 and nothing to have installed as we did it ourselves. While we were at it we had to replace the complete bathroom floor from where the previous fittings had leaked and ruined the chipboard. So for about £250 we had a complete new bathroom. The kitchen was also in dire need of attention, so once the bathroom was fitted we went back to B&Q again. We spent £600 in total on new cupboards, sink, work surfaces etc and it put around £2,500 on the value of our house. The good thing... Read review

B&Q Warehouse
Review of B & Q (Shop) by  cbzcbz

Advantages: price
Disadvantages: availability, customer service

...I thought I'd share my shopping experience of B&Q with fellow Ciao members in this review. I recieved through the letter box an ad for B&Q which included some wardrobes and chest of drawers, which I thought would be ideal for myself. I couldn't order the items online so i thought i'd go to my local B&Q Warehouse. This morning I proceeded to phone B&Q and asked if they had these items in stock. The reply I received was 'Yes, we've got plenty of both'. A friend with a van kindly drove 20 miles out of his way to help me get the items back home. When we arrived at my local B&Q we found the wardrobes but as they were off the floor and in the overheads we had to ask for assistance. When I asked two assistants that I needed an item getting down from above, I was told to go to Plumbing and ask for someone there. No-one there... Read review

B&Q settle
Review of B & Q (Shop) by  vicke_p

Advantages: Good selection
Disadvantages: Poor after sales / customer service

...I have been a regular customer of B and Q for a number of years what with my garden and house always seeming to need something done to them. After buying a bathroom suite from them adding to the thousands of pounds already spent with them, the suite was installed and for a short time looked beautiful. Here begins my tale. I contacted the store in question after about 9 months to inform them of the swelling of the bath panel (which cost £155 with the toilet seat). I was told that it must be water damage and as such nothing could be done. No examination of the panel was requested? The laminate began to peel from the toilet seat not long after and I decided to buy a new set for the same £155. Pointless I thought, having a beautiful suite and horrible looking accessories. I paid and collected the replacements a short time after. I had... Read review
