The Amari Watergate Hotel Bangkok - fabulous!
Review of Amari Watergate Hotel, Bangkok by
e_lucy
Advantages: great for shopping, great customer services, large clean modern rooms
Disadvantages: maybe a bit "out of reality" for those wanting to experience the real Bangkok
...Like the traveller on the previous review I was also unsure of what to expect about the Amari Watergate Hotel. We were offered a great deal with a travel agent with 2 nights for the price of 3, which for 3 nights in a 5 star hotel for £150 seemed criminal to refuse!
After making the booking we then checked out the hotel online and it looked great. We were not dissapointed.
The Amari is set in Bangkoks main commercial area with 3 of the largest shopping malls within walking distance (however, if walking in 95% humidity across frogger style traffic isnt your style a taxi to the furthest shopping mall - the Siam Centre is 40bahts (75p)
The hotel provided us with a free taxi from the airport which was clean and airconditioned and it whisked us away to the foyre of the hotel in about 40 minutes, we were received at the hotel...

Bangkok Palace Hotel
Review of Palace Hotel, Bangkok by
jrc1984
Advantages: Good cheap hotel, good facilities
Disadvantages: Odd location, under the expressway!
...This is a very good hotel if you are visiting Bangkok for a brief time. I mostly took trips from the hotel to the main tourist sights so did not walk into the main bit of the city from the hotel, if you did it was quite a slog, especially when its really hot.
The hotel itself was good, spacious, well air conditioned rooms with good bathrooms. The was tea/coffee making facilities aswell as a well stocked +cheap mini bar. The hotel had a safe room to put your valuables in for a small fee. The restaurant was good for breakfast...theres nothing better than cold thai green curry for breakfast!!
There is also a nice bar in the hotel lobby which is lovely to sit in, in the evenings if you dont want to wander to far, it often has live music/singers. If you do feel like venturing far, the hotel runs a taxi service or you can hail one...

Grand China Princess Hotel - Bangkok
Review of Grand China Princess Chinatown, Bangkok by
daylehall
Advantages: In centre of town, clean rooms
Disadvantages: food was expensive
...I found this hotel to be in a very central location which was good for us as we were only in Bangkok for three nights. The room had air conditioning which came in very handy. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the sheets were changed everyday. We were in the middle of the town and near to the Golden Palace which is a tourist hotspot, we were also near to the main town and all the shops were easily accesable. There were plenty of banks surrounding our hotels so changing up out money was very easy. The night markets were a 10 minute walk from the hotel and the red light district (which is worth a look for the culture shock) was a 15 minute walk. There were quite a few tailors and other shops further away from out hotel which we could get to by a 'tuk tuk' car and this was a very cheap method of transport (about £2...

Davis Hotel Bangkok
Review of Davis, Bangkok by
jackwilliams86
Advantages: Amazing rooms with amazing decor, Quiet area, Rooftop Pool, Gym, Free shuttle to skytrain stop
Disadvantages: None
...My partner and I stayed at the Davis Bangkok last year whilst on our gap year, and it was the most memorable hotel that we visited. Slightly out of town, and reasonably dear (£45 pere night) located in the quieter Sukhumvit area, we felt that it was a good base to rest in before entering the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, via the skytrain.
Our room was in the annex that is a one minute walk from the main hotel, this section being more recently built. The hotel prides iself on being a 'boutique' hotel with ultimate care taken over interior design, which showed throughout. The room was decorated in a contemporary style and though the view wasn't spectacular, the room made up for it.
The bathroom was large and had marble floors, with a bath and seperate shower. There was a large mirror and the lighting was well placed. A nice featuree...

Nice hotel in Bangkoks center.
Review of The Landmark, Bangkok by
orcada
Advantages: very clean hotel.
Disadvantages: no window.
...I was met from Bangkok airport (jan 03) by a very well educated representive from the hotel, he carried my bags to the car and on the way to the hotel informed me of the various attractions I could visit during my week stay in Bangkok, (I was travelling alone for the first time!) when we arrived at the hotel my first impression was wow, and how much value i was getting for my money. (around £60 per night) the place was spotless, with a concierge who told a younger member of staff to carry my bags up for me after the trouble free check-in, my room was quite high up in the hotel, but the elevator seemed quite fast at arriving at the floor. the corridors were also spotless and the room was very large, with double wardrobe, minibar/fridge, television, telephone, hair dryer in the bathroom along with the usual complimentary shampoos and sew...

The Landmark Hotel Review - Bangkok
Review of The Landmark, Bangkok by
shar25
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: I can't think of any
...I stayed in this hotel the first time I ever visited Bangkok. I booked a package holiday with Thomas Cook and they recommended the Landmark Hotel - I was not disappointed!
From the moment I entered the grand lobbey area, staff made me feel welcome. I was offered a welcome drink and when we checked in was given a free room upgrade on a higher floor.
The room itself was perfect. It was large, clean and had excellent views over the city and hotel pool.
The facilities in the hotel were superb. The swimming pool, with seperate spa was perfect to unwind in after a long days shopping. If you don't fancy leaving the hotel, there are a number of restaurants to choose from. The Thai restaurant was particuly good, There is also a bakery/ coffee shop which sells very nice ice cream and cakes if you were looking to treat yourself...

A few nights in Bangkok
Review of General: Bangkok by
gard
Advantages: Shopping, great food, cheap, friendly people
Disadvantages: Tuk-tuk drivers, pollution
....
The trip begins
On most of our trips earlier we have chosen to fly KLM because: a) it has been the cheapest alternative, and b) Amsterdam is not very far from Stavanger so it is easy for us when we travel. But I feel that the quality of KLM has gone down in the years since I started travelling so this time we decided to try Thai Airways instead (they were in fact the cheapest alternative).
We decided to fly to Thailand on September 11th and due to the events last year on this date many people asked if we really would dare to fly on this day. But we did and we left Stavanger on a beautiful clear day. We made some arrangements before going and that was to book a hotel in Bangkok and to book a hotel at Ao Nang beach in Krabi. The first hotell was booked by Tom - a close friend of Olav and Allis, who lives in Bangkok. The hotel in Krabi...

Ambassador Hotel Review - Bangkok
Review of Ambassador Hotel, Bangkok by
shar25
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Outdated rooms
...I choose this hotel as a result of a special offer on 'asiarooms'. On arrival we were promptly shown to our room by a very helpful member of staff.
The Deluxe room was a lot bigger tahn other hotels I have stayed in. However, it did seem a little tired looking and outdated in its appearance (the wood panelled walls didn't help). The choice of English channels in the room was also quite limited. Although, because of the hotels great location we didn't really spend much time in the room.
Breakfast was included in the price and was of a good standard and with a large variety to choose from. However, the main restaurant were breakfast was served was always busy and we had to on a number of occassions share a table with other hotel guests.
The highlight of this hotel is its location, just off of Sukhumvit road, the hotel is only...
