BEPANTHEN- BARRIER CREAM FOR BACKSIDES
Review of Bepanthen by
Jenner1
Advantages: effective,fragrance free, gentle
Disadvantages: expensive
...This (very good) barrier cream has a water in oil formation and is classed as an emollient (form Latin "emolliere" meaning to soften ). It acts as a barrier to fungi , bacteria and ammonia from human waste products which can all cause nappy rash (according to net doctor).
There is no list of ingredients on the tube but the manufacturer (Bayer) website assures consumers that this product is free of fragrance, preservatives, colours or antiseptics. It mentions one active ingredient-Pro vitamin B5 as an aid to skin repair but there is little other factual information on their website.
I am now on my third baby and in the third week of life she has just developed nappy rash.I used this cream on my last baby and had for gotten how good it is. It cost £5.99 for 100 grammes in Boots which is more expensive than other barrier creams...

Very pleased with this product
Review of Bepanthen by
nessie3105
Advantages: Good protection; Easy to apply
Disadvantages: Price
..., the bepanthen barrier can still be felt and I am really confident that it builds a good barrier on my baby's bottom.
When my baby experienced a little nappy rash, I continued to use the beanthen although to be honest, it did not seem to clear the rash up. In the end, I used some sudocrem, which seemed more effective in clearing up the rash, although I did not like it as much as the bepanthen as a barrier cream.
My only criticism with the bepanthen is the price. It is quite expensive (approx. £3 for a 30g tube), which does not last very long, although there is an option of buying a larger tube for about £5. I would not change, however, as I do trust the protction this cream is giving to my baby....

leaves no gunky mess
Review of Bepanthen by
shazronnie
Advantages: great for newborn bums and sore nipples!
Disadvantages: expensive for everyday use
...I used this on my son's nappy rash when he was tiny; only a few weeks old.
It is a light, thin consistency, and cleared the rash up in no time. There was no gunk left to collect in little crevices as there is with some thicker creams.
It seems to mostly absorb into the skin, leaving a gentle protective film.
It also helped to heal my sore, slightly cracked nipples in the early days of breastfeeding; because it is unscented it does not require washing off when you next feed.
The only drawback is that the tube is quite small for the price (about £3) so I tended not to use it as an everyday barrier cream, especially as my baby got older....

THE BEST A MAN CAN GET
Review of E45 Problem Skin Cream by
trakstarTudor
Advantages: does'nt smell foul
Disadvantages: none
...After I wash I have to use a cream to stop my skin itching and being left really sore for about half of the day .
I have tried lots of different creams but most of them are more suited to women because nearly all of them have a simular famanine smell.
And then I discovered E45 cream it has almost no smell it is really soft and when you put it on your face after washing it really (how can I say) put's life into your skin which is the best way to start the day.
The cream itself does'nt leave your face greasy at all
and it stops my skin pealing or getting dry.
The cream replaces water lost from the skin and then forms a protective barrier on your skin which lasts all day
The cream itself is deratoloically tested and it is recommended for cases of eczema, dermatitis, ichyosis and certain dry cases of psoriasis.
The cream is available...

wonder cream
Review of Medela PureLan Nipple Cream by
lesleyalan
Advantages: Soothing for chapped skin. Can be used on mother and child. Tube lasts a long time.
Disadvantages: Some people are allergic to lanolin. Quite sticky
...Purelan cream is used to protect and soothe cracked or dry nipples.
I found it to be extremely soothing for cracked nipples and I often used it on dry patches of my own skin and my babies skin.
The cream has the texture of really thick and sticky vaseline and is yellow in colour. It doesn't really have any scent to it.
A tiny smear on your finger is more than enough for both nipples. I used the small tube which came with my breastpump at least twice a day for a month and the tube still looks full.
I found it to really useful as a barrier to protect my nipples when I was using my breastpump. If you pump milk several times a day you can be left feeling a little sore but this stopped the skin from drying and soothed any sore patches.
I used some of it on my babies cradle cap and it really calmed down the redness seemed to stop it from...

Cheap alternative to other brands
Review of Tesco Nappy Cream by
nessie3105
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Quite messy
...The 'Tesco My Baby's Nappy Cream' is in a tub that looks slightly different to the one in the picture. It is white with pink writing and a white lid. It is a 150 ml tub and it staes that it is:
Fragrance free
Hypoallergenic
Paediatrician approved
Our mildest ever
I bought this tub because I did not have any advice from anyone as to the best cream to buy and it was cheap ( I can't remember exactly how much)
Whilst using the product, I found that the cream was quite tricky to remove from the tub without getting cream down my finger tips. This proved to be quite messy and also wasted some of the cream. The cream is also quite runny, making it a little messy in this way too.
The cream is fairly easy to apply, although it does not rub in very well. It creates a good moisture barrier and is very difficult to wash off of your own hands, even...

Good stuff BUT not for my baby's sensitive bottom
Review of Metanium Nappy Rash Ointment by
luigilou
Advantages: Waterproof, only need a small amount
Disadvantages: Messy, smelly, difficult to wash off
...Metanium comes in a yellow tube of 30g costing £3.56.
The cream itself is also yellow.
It's really waterproof so does not wash off easily therefore it is a great barrier cream.
It has a strong medicated smell to it.
Watch out as it does get everywhere if you have a wriggly baby.
I had this on prescription as my little one had bad nappy rash, thanks to a certain nappy (see my review), so saved a bit of money as I was trying various creams to find one that suited my baby.
I used this cream as recommended by HV and some friends said it was brill, they swear by it.
Well my boy must have a sensitive bum as his rash started to get worse with the use of this cream. I went back to the Sudocrem and his bottom was back on the road to recovery.
I guess all babies are different so all I can say is if your little babber has sensitive skin...

My natural relief
Review of Tesco Bnatural Soothing Hand Cream by
lillamarta
Advantages: Protects, soothes extremely dry / eczema-prone skin
Disadvantages: Doesn't come in a more intensive, all day version :-)
...is recyclable. It's a handy size that fits in your handbag / travel bag easily.
What it says it does
- Softens and smoothes hands
What it contains
- Naturally caring roseflower, moisture retaining jojoba oil, cocoa butter and soothing aloe vera
Appearance
The cream has a light texture, similar to other barrier creams that are either made of white paraffin or based on some other non-oily buffered cream or, as most 'natural' barrier creams, aloe vera gel. Despite its lightness, the hand cream isn't runny and has a rich, gel-like consistency, and is virtually oil-free.
Application
The dab of the cream I apply on my hand and massage in is absorbed within seconds. It instantly smoothes rough, dehydrated skin and the flaky bits from the eczema affected areas and creates a protecting flimsy layer thanks...

Not just for babies!
Review of Sudo Cream by
Sezannazaza
Advantages: most skin irritations & burns
Disadvantages: none that I can think of!
...I never realised just how versatile sudo cream really is!
Like most of us, I started using it with my 1st baby. She tended to get a very sore bottom (known as nappy rash). Sudo cream is a great antiseptic cream and also a great barrier cream. I used to pile loads of it on her bottom, especially at night time when she would generally have to wear her nappy for a long period of time. I found the more that I applied the better her bottom became as it worked like a barrier cream as well.
At that time I never used sudo cream for anything else. To me it was just "the nappy rash cream"!
It was not until I had my second child, that for once I actually took notice of the label!
Not only does it say it is for nappy rash but it also lists;
Eczema, bed sores, sunburn, minor burns, surface wounds, acne & chilblains.
I had been through a lot...

GOOD PROTECTION EVERY DAY + HEALS FAST
Review of Conotrane by
galaxy2.3i
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: hard to get hold of
...i have 4 children and my youngest is 6 months old.
I saw this cream in my local chemist and it was recomended by the pharmacist, so i purchased a tube that cost £1.40.
i have been using it ever since and its great protection at a very low price.
Its also used for bed sores, pressure sores and ulcers. it creates a invisible layer that is a waterproof breathable barrier on the skin.
It soothes and heels tender and sore parts of the skin whilst protecting from further irrating everyday factors, like nappies and dampness.
The tube is a durabe plasic tube which is easy to handle and very clean to store.
I have not seen this cream in any other stores or chemists so i have stocked up just in case i need some in the future....
