De Vere Whites Hotel, Bolton
Review of De Vere Whites Hotel, Bolton by  dickyj

Advantages: Impressive luxury hotel
Disadvantages: Not central - other than for the football

...I have stayed at this hotel on three occasions, mainly through attending work related conferences at the attached Bolton Wanderers Football Club. To look at from the outside it is a tad strange, a football stadium with a hotel built into one side - please don't be put off, if you are not a Bolton fan, as soon as you enter the hotel lobby you can forget all about the beautiful game. If you are there for the football, there is absolutely no better location! The lobby is an impressive affair with large reception desk, the staff at which I have always found efficient, and a beautiful imposing sweeping staircase. Once checked in, it is up to the rooms, but on the way please check out those great carpets that flow effortlessly and seemingly join free around the communal areas and down the corridors. The rooms are of avarage size, not too... Read review

Bolton last drop village
Review of Macdonald Last Drop Village Hotel & Spa, Bolton by  pa2539

Advantages: Not far from Bolton retail park, infinity pool, facitlies are excellent
Disadvantages: staff weren't as helpful as other hotels

...We received an email from Macdonald to say they had special offers on certain hotels so we looked into them further. We chose this one as it had a wide range of facilities and was only an hour away from where we live so was a nice weekend break. When we arrived, the place was quaint. It is an old fashioned little village, complete with tea rooms, pub, bakery, and various other little shops. We were told we could check in from 1 so we arrived for 1 and were told that the room wasn't ready so we went into the tea rooms for afternoon tea. We went back to reception at 2 and were told that our room still wasn't ready so to wait in the lounge or have a wander round. There was no apology for the delay. We finally got into our room at 2.45. We had decided to get a four poster bed room as it was for a special occasion. The room... Read review

Macdonald Hotels The Last Drop Village
Review of Macdonald Hotels The Last Drop Village by  scuba_angel

Advantages: old site, friendly staff
Disadvantages: rude guests, and no dry walkways between buildings

...Im not writing this as a review of the hotel from a guests point of view but a staff members view. I was a member of the bars team at this hotel for 18 months on a casual basis. Firstly the hotel is near Bolton in Bromley Cross, to get to it, there is a train station in Bromley x itself, also buses run from bolton to bromley x, although these dont run up to the hotel. A taxi from boton centre costs about 5 pounds. Id not recommend getting the bus as the hotel is up a hill and the hill is quite steep, trains run i think hourly between bolton and blackburn (bromley x is a minor station on this line). Once on the hotel site the first thing you will notice is the lawns to either side of the driveway. At the top of the drive is the small car park, this is the best place to park while you check in at reception. The hotel is made up... Read review

A good, 'Sound' Hotel!!!
Review of Best Western Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Plymouth by  nuttynaomi

Advantages: Central Location.
Disadvantages: Red-light district!

...are mixed up with the hotel rooms and the décor of the hotel is tired to say the least. The floor boards creek and groan and the hotel appears to be subsiding slightly!! To be honest, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone due to these factors but I am sure it is nice if you are aware of these or used to it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some about the area.. ----------- Plymouth Pavilions:- They have staged shows and concerts by many including, Jack Dee, G4, Premier League Darts, Kings of Leon, the Streets, Girls Aloud, Joss Stone, Athlete, Jamie Cullen, Michael Bolton, Katherin Jenkins, Motorhead, Live Boxing and Snooker and many many more world renowned artists. At the Plymouth Pavilions there is an Ice Rink and swimming pool. The Swimming Pool (known as the Atlantis... Read review

Quaint but at a cost
Review of Pack Horse Hotel, Bolton by  naesxx

Advantages: Personal, freindly staff, clean, location
Disadvantages: cost, and old fashioned

...2007, myself and the other half had actually made it to 9 years and 360 days, as a celebration of this even we decided to go out for a few drinks and a meal and get the baby sitting in while me made our way for a night of romance at the Pack horse hotel! so we booked it for 5 days later. Our choice of the hotel was mainly down to the fact that the Moat house and others alike were the more traditional business man or Friday night slapper resort and looks as such the pack horse has a traditional long heritage in Bolton and its look reflects that from the outside. Situated in a square with bars and clubs surrounding and a few decent restaurants its ideal for night out but without all the walking up and down the strip and then a required taxi, basically it's all there in one convenient spot. In fact if you were wanting to go into town... Read review

A celebration hotel break.
Review of Best Western Barton Grange Hotel, Preston by  jo145

Advantages: Near the motorway, wonderful food, comfortable rooms
Disadvantages: Nothing to do in Barton

..., a leisure centre, 2 restaurants and conference and banqueting facilities for 300 but the original house is still at its heart. (You can see the lintel announcing "1900" as you enter the panelled lounge through the original front doors - although you're now twenty yards inside the building at this point!). In 1963 Edward Topping Junior ("Eddie") started a garden centre in the grounds - the first in the north west of England. This too started very small, little more than a cabin, but is now very well established and widely known. Eddie also established Barton Grange Landscapes and a wholesale plant growing division, both of which are still going strong and there is another Barton Grange Garden Centre at Bolton. Eddie's sons Peter and Guy run the Landscape/Wholesale and Garden Centre Divisions respectively. Eddie also ran the hotel for 20 years... Read review

University of Bolton (updated again!).
Review of Bolton Institute by  chinesa11

Advantages: good facilities
Disadvantages: institute, library not 24hr

...I was a student at Bolton Institute for 5 years! I first came into Bolton, not really knowing what to expect. I started my course and everybody was extremely helpful and flexible. Tutors do really help you when you need to. I studied at both Chadwick and Deane, and they are two completly different campuses. In case you didn't read the title, it's a university. Although it is called an institute (not sure why), it is a university that is recognised as such. The two campuses Deane is big and has most of the facilities. It has a cantine which serves very tasty food, although not always the healthiest choice. The main library is situates in this campus also. It has a smokers eating area which also serves food, but mainly snack type food. The Students Union, most of the societies and on of the union shops are at Deane campus... Read review

Bolton Institute
Review of Bolton Institute by  hepialid

Advantages: Good close knit community
Disadvantages: Not as high profile as some would like, still struggling to recieve university status

...I spent four long enjoyable years studying at Bolton Institute. The course I was studying involved a year in industry if your wondering why four years and not three. In my time at Bolton I studied for a degree in Civil Engineering. I started my industrial training year and ended up getting a full time job, thus I had to complete my fianl year through day release. This was allowed due to the flexibility of Institute and the wide variety of courses and modes of study available. At the time Bolton was one of the only places that offered both full time, sandwich and part time courses in Civil Engineering. Bolton itself it a great little town, close to the big city amenities of Manchester and yet everything you need is here in the town itself. The nightlife is outstanding with a wide variety of bars, pubs and clubs, together with a newly... Read review

Bolton – Started to go backwards
Review of Bolton Wanderers by  robsephton

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...Everyone knows that when Bolton play at home in the Reebok stadium someone will get sent off – it’s guaranteed. I used to love watching Bolton play and was very disappointed when they got relegated, but I can’t help feeling that they have started to go backwards. Anytime they get a good player, they sell him off to make a quick profit. The good old days of the premiership must seem a million miles away to Bolton fans who even got to the League Cup final against Liverpool. Whatever the Bolton manager and board of directors do this season, they are going to have to radically change their attitude towards their club and get them back into the premiership.... Read review

Peter Kay.Live at the Bolton Albert Halls
Review of Peter Kay - Live At The Bolton Albert Halls (Wide Screen) by  rosierozi

Advantages: Great laughs throughout
Disadvantages: ???

...I bought this dvd about 3 months ago on Ebay. After loving his hit series 'PHOENIX NIGHTS',and watching 'Live at the Bolton Albert Halls',about two years previously I knew he was a class act, with a unique comedy style of his own. It wasnt up until just randomly coming across it on Ebay that I was reminded what a great and hilarious talent he is. I payed only 0.99p for the dvd, which had been used previously, but had come in great condition. Only yesterday,I saw it in HMV for 6 pounds, which is great value for such a great installment of laughs. The DVD is called 'Peter Kay,Live at the Bolton Albert Halls,as part of his 'Mum wants a Bungalow Tour'. Bolton being his home town,it was bound to be a sell-out It's filmed as part of his sell out ,180 date tour that spanned 9 months and was seen by 300,000 people. Many people who are seen...
