Bombay Dreams awow of a show !!!
Review of Bombay Dreams - Original Cast by
schesters
Advantages: Terrific score and superb mix of multi-cultural music
Disadvantages: N/A
...This is a wow of a musical that illustrates East meets West as only Andrew Lloyd Weber can produce and Don Black 's lyrics can do. Bombay Dreams combines all the glitz of the movies, heart-rendering romance and a whole pile of epic spectacle.
I was amazed when Isaw this show and heard this wonderful score. It's amazing !!!! The scintillating score composed by the infamous composer A R Rahman takes us on awild journey.
A feast for the senses, Bombay Dreams combines the lot, torment, betrayal, love and success. It tells the story of Akaash, a young slum dweller, who dreams of becoming a huge movie star, and of his fateful encounter with beautiful Priya, the daughter of one of Bollywood's greatest film directors. Can he achieve his dream of stardom or will this come at a price? Will Akaash and Priya's love survive...

CITY OF DREAMS
Review of Mumbai (Bombay) by
asyis
Advantages: Many
Disadvantages: None
...has also had a nostalgic aspect and cant take anything away from this great city, were every person getting out of the VT (CST NOW) railway station comes out with a dream.
Mumbai or Bombay
Like Shakespeare has said, what’s there in Name? How true, by changing the name will that change the city of Bombay or Mumbai …No it won’t. It is sad that because of few morons, the name conversion has been taken whether Bombay to Mumbai or Madras to Chennai, or Calcutta to Kolkota.
When Mumbai’s famous railway station Victoria Terminus (VT) was changed to Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus, we used to joke them as the Centuries biggest sex change.
Do we follow the past...
------------------------
Anyways, Mumbai is a place, which has been always liked by many rulers, and the English liked it so much that they gave...

Could have been a BOLLY lot better.
Review of Bombay Dreams (London) by
Critchyboy
Advantages: Great singing, dancing.
Disadvantages: Hammy acting.
...It’s nearly one year since Jo Lambert and I became Mr and Mrs Critchley and to celebrate – a little early – we decided to have a few days in London. Booked it ages ago so it wasn’t our fault that it turned out to be the hottest ever day in London, until yesterday at least, whilst we were there.
Loads of the theatres in London are listed buildings – therefore little can be done to them – and have no air-conditioning making for sweltering conditions for the audience let alone the actors with all the stage lighting beaming down on them too!
Having seen a number of West End shows, Jo decided that she wanted to see something different and when I saw an offer for Bombay Dreams, I thought this is it! Jo had wanted to see this since it started over a year ago.
Sit back and enjoy the anniversary review of Bombay Dreams at the Apollo...

The best theatre show i've ever seen
Review of Bombay Dreams by
5exiMiller
Advantages: Cultural, Musical and colourful
Disadvantages: A slightly predictable storyline
...I went to see Bombay dreams with my mum last year in the London Apollo Victoria Theatre and i was surprised how good it was. I read a review in the newspaper which made it sound extremely average. It has a typical boy-meets-girl storyline but uses a lot of singing and dancing to take the audience through their journey with them and give you a feel of how they live their lives. Just sat in the audience watching the show, you can feel like you're really involved.
This is a great show compared to many other shows as it puts you in a completely diferent frame of mind.
A summary of the storyline is a very poor young man who dreams of being famous but keeps getting bought back down to earth by his friends and family who constantly remind him he'll never make it. You can pretty much guess how the rest of the story goes as it has...

Calling Dr. Bombay, Emergency, Come Right Away
Review of Bombay Gin by
frkurt
Advantages: Good, basic, serviceable, always a happy thing
Disadvantages: None
...Don't tell my mother I'm living in sin,
Don't let the old folks know;
Don't tell my twin that I breakfast on gin,
He'd never survive the blow.
-- A.P. Herbert
-------------------------------------------
Having extolled the virtues of Bombay Sapphire in an earlier opinion, I now turn to the baser lot, the plain jane of Bombay Dry Gin. Alas, it is unfortunate next to the more dazzling Sapphire, for else this gin might be the queen of gins all. I have often wondered if Cinderella's step-sisters were really all that homely, or only seemed such just by comparison to the beauty-pageant mystical creation that the fairy godmother created. So too is the comparison here. Were one never to know of Sapphire, the Bombay Dry Gin would be considered most excellent. As it is, it becomes merely excellent.
As the bottle indicates...

Bombay, in the eyes of a western foreigner
Review of Mumbai (Bombay) by
afinwala786
Advantages: Excellent value for money, lovely polite people
Disadvantages: you can get mugged, Poverty
...As my parents were born in India, they try to take us back to their country so that we keep in touch with our roots every so often. I had just finished my GCSE's, and my parents organised a trip to India as a present for me to say well done. There was me, my two younger brothers and my mum. The perception of Bombay or Mumbai that Im going to write is truly my opinion, and I mean no offence to anyone.
I arrived in the monsoon season in India, which was in July, as soon as we landed; all I could see was shanty towns and huts everywhere from the plane window. As soon as we got off, oh god! Literally if felt like walking into an oven, it was so stuffy!! Now, all those familiar with India, know about the dodgy police.
For those who don't, let me quickly fill you in. As these poor guys get very little wage, and I mean very little, if I...

Nair's Tribute to the Street Children of Bombay
Review of Salaam Bombay! DVD by
OKkaraoke
Advantages: beautiful, moving, good acting
Disadvantages: bleak, dark, depressing
...Before she became famous for such films as 'Mississippi Masala' and 'Monsoon Wedding,' Mira Nair wrote and directed the dark and powerful 'Salaam Bombay!', the story of street children and prostitutes in the bustling city.
It is ironic that the film has an exclamation point in its title since it is quite a downer. However, it is full of interesting subtleties and is definitely worth seeing.
Young Krishna (How's that for a loaded name?) has been forced to leave home after setting fire to his brother's bicycle. His mother tells him that he can return home when he has earned 500 rupees, enough to pay for a new bike. Although his age is never given, Krishna seems much too young to be living on his own and says that he misses his mother when he goes to sleep.
The film starts out with Krishna working for a circus in a rural area...

Bombay Mix - When a simple crisp just won't do!
Review of Sainsbury's Bombay Mix by
etala
Advantages: Makes a change from crisps
Disadvantages: Greasy and same-y
...I was wandering around my local Sainsbury's this morning, buying the ingredients for my packed lunch. Now I'm one of those people for whom a lunchtime sandwich just isn't complete without a crunchy, usually potato based, snack to have alongside. So whilst perusing the heavily laden shelves of the crisps and snacks aisle my eye was caught by the pink and purple packaging of Sainsbury's own brand of Bombay Mix.
Now for the snack historians amongst you Bombay Mix is an Indian snack with the traditional name of chiwda or chevda, or even in Bangladesh chanachur. Traditionally the snack would consist of dried pieces of lentils, peanuts, corn, chickpeas, flaked rice, fried onion and gram flour noodles. This would all then be flavoured with salt, coriander and mustard seed. In the USA you would ask for Punjabi Mix and in the Antipodeans you...
