Flare throwing in Italian Football
Review of Italy by
rambo
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: Violence, thugs, flares etc
...in the 'curvas' do largely what they want and get away with it. The Italian police have made many promises and have so far failed to deliver. Inter will face serious sanctions since this match was a Champions league match. In 2001, UEFA ordered Inter to play two European matches away from home because violent protests after a defeat by Spanish team Alaves. Last September, Roma was forced to play two Champions league matches behind closed doors after Swedish referee Anders Frisk Frisk (ironically he had to quit after Mourinho labelled him a cheat)was hit in the face and left bloodied by a coin thrown from the Roma stand. The violence seems to occur in places like Bergamo, Brescia, Verona, Rome etc. In Turin, where Liverpool will be going tonight, there isn't a history of fans going out and looking for trouble. However, they may be things thrown...

Flying without frills
Review of Ryanair - RYR by
womble
Advantages: Cheap, gets you from point A to point B
Disadvantages: Flys to smaller airports, sometimes late
...they do fly into the smaller airports (for example Brescia) they do provide a bus service to the main train station or somewhere a bit more prominent or easy to get to.
As for the flights themselves, because they are quite short, they pass quickly and easily. The staff do have a trolley of food/drink which you can buy, but the prices are pretty steep for what they are, and likely as not, you are better to either bring food with you or wait till you arrive at your destination.
I have found a little problem with lateness, this is because the turnaround time at each airport is so short, but equally, on other occasions they have been wonderfully punctual. I'd say expect the worst but hope for the best.
As for the quality of service, I certainly have no complaints. The staff are efficient and well-trained although their knowledge...

Warning... sometimes features Craig Brown
Review of Channel 4 - Football Italia by
Gavin6
Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: See opinion
...Blisset or sometimes even Craig Brown! Yes THE Craig Brown. The disadvantage is that these guests are shite. Although Joe Jordan is quite funny sometimes because of the way he talks. There is a lack of a studio meaning that at the games there isnt a chance for incisive analysis and comment.
The games themselves are alright. The ones featuring two big teams are usually played on Saturday nights so you usually get coverage of a good team versus a diddy team like Brescia. Also the games are intensely boring apart from the Lazio-Vicenza game last week. The pace is very slow and while this could be seen to encourage good technique and use of the ball you have to be into it or support an Italian team to bear it. Commentary is provided by the generally excellent Ken Wolstenholme or Peter Brackley.
Overall the pluses are more than the minuses...

MY TOP TEN PLAYERS TO KEEP AN EYE ON IN EUROPE
Review of Top 10 Footballers by
pippoa
Advantages: Just keeping you informed of what talent is out there.
Disadvantages: No english players....sorry!
...to Fiorentina from his old club Palermo after just 2 seasons with them. He scored 20 goals in 35 appearances for the Rosanero. Toni has scored a total of 74 goals in 237 games for 9 clubs including Modena, Empoli, Fiorenzoula, Lodigiani, Trevise, Vicenza and Brescia. Luca could definitely bag another 20 goals this year with Fiorentina looking a very promising team.
10.Jefferson Farfan
(Forward, PSV Eindhoven)
This 20 year old Peruvian ace has proved to be a tricky wide striker with his blistering pace and good striking of the ball. Farfan joined the Eindhoven club in July of 2004 and has proved to be a great young signing making his way into Guus Hiddinks first team plans. Since making his debut against RBC Roosendaal in the August of the same year he joined, Farfan has gone on to score 9 goals in 30 apperances while also getting call ups...

Hello did some say BARGINS OF THE CENTURY
Review of ryanair.com by
Baccione
Advantages: Cheap, quick, easy and instant confirmation.
Disadvantages: You can get carried away and there is only so much of Europe you can see.
...If you suffer from the 21st century affliction aka "the travel bug" then Ryanair.com is for you. If you are looking for a trip away or just a weekend away to somewhere in Europe then check this site out. They offer time-limited offers. However, note that though the flights are offered at £1 a seat they will add on airport taxes which will mean the average price of a return ticket will be about £20 minimum but you'd be a fool to shake your head at that. If you appreciate Ryanair for what it is - a means to get from A to B - like a train, then you get exactly what you pay for and excellent customer service to.
DESTINATIONS
Aarhus, Alghero, Ancona, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Biarritz
Brescia, Brussels (Charleroi), Carcassonne (Toulouse), Cardiff, Copenhagen, Cork, Derry, Dinard, Dublin, Edinburgh, Esbjerg, Bologna (Forli...

Like a shining medieval jewel
Review of Pavia (Italy) by
pesadilla
Advantages: Quite small
Disadvantages: ----
...about a town that stands in a country zone.
Pavia isn't a touristic town but an universitary one, and it is usually visited from people who live in the sorroundings during short tours.
If you decide to visit it, I suggest to find an accomodation in Milan, also because the nightlife in Pavia is something really poor, quite inexistent.
To reach Pavia:
Highway A7 the Milan-Genoa
Up to Bereguardo or Gropello
Highway 21 the Tourin-Piacenza-Brescia
Up to Casteggio or Stradella
With the train:
Milan-Genua or La Spezia-Ventimiglia
With buses:
From Milan
Buses at the stop of Famagosta on the green underground line
From Voghera:
Bus station beyond the train station
Pavia stands at 58 km from LINATE and 85 km from MALPENSA.
Buses from both the airport at the Central Station of Milan....

Kappa football kits
Review of Kappa Football Shirts by
thespurs
Advantages: Great Technology, keep you cool and are very simple but attractive
Disadvantages: Can sometimes be hard to find the correct size
.... They are an Italian founded company, who operate globally. They manufacture the kits and all of the other team and training wear for the players. They are a well known global brand and make kits for many clubs around the world. They produce the Welsh international kit, the Serie A clubs Brescia and Sampdorias strips and their most well known client of all is the Italian national team. This shows that they have a good pedigree and customer base.
The football shirts produced by Kappa, are very different from those produced by the other major producers such as Nike, Adidas and Umbro. Kappa shirts are made from a light, stretchy material, which has many benefits. Firstly, the shirt should fit skin tight, or close to, on the player which prevents them being tugged back by the opposition during a match. This material also helps to keep the players cool...

The best football program ever
Review of Channel 4 - Football Italia by
Yeahmate
Advantages: Very well presented, Looks like alot of time has been spent on it.
Disadvantages: Italian football itself can be boring sometimes
...This title sounds like its going over the top, but it is my honest opinion. Personally, although Italian football is very good technically, i don't always find it that exciting, but there is no doubt about the quality of the presentation of it on Channel 4.
I regularly watch the live matches, but they have had some bad luck, including Inter - Brescia, one of the most boring games i have ever seen, but the really great thing about Football Italia is the weekly highlights/ magazine program, Gazetta, on Saturday mornings.
James Richardson presents it very well, and it is very well structured, involving highlights, all the goals from the previous week, plus a round up of all the news stories, good interviews (Richardson speaks incredibly good Italian) and previews of the Sunday live match. The progress of each of the Italian Serie...
