Brighton :Vibrant,Cosmopolitan Seaside Resort
Review of Brighton in general by
ashford
Advantages: Lively, vibrant, cosmpolitan resort. Great dining out.
Disadvantages: Can get crowded during the season
...and chips and other traditional English eateries. For variety it is one of the best places in England to eat in, outside of London. It is also one of the major shopping centres or the south coast with some major department stores, good book shops, and specialised shops catering to the varied needs of both local residents and the large number of visitors.
As befits a popular seaside resort that is only an hour away from London, this Brighton has a wide choice of accommodations in town, ranging from expensive de luxe hotels, 2 to 3 star hotels, guest houses and homely bed and breakfast establishments. In most of these you can get a solid English breakfast and helpful information about the local tourist attractions. The down side is that visitors from the US or Canada, often find the rooms to be rather small and cramped.
It is a good base...

The Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton
Review of Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton by
beanie8844
Advantages: great location, cheap, nice rooms, excellent food
Disadvantages: no parking, quite dated
...Introduction to the hotel:
The Royal Albion Hotel was built in 1826 and is situated in a fantastic location opposite Brighton pier. It is a three star hotel and has 186 guest rooms offering views of Brighton beach or the town centre.
My experience of the hotel:
I spent one night in the hotel in January of this year and for a three star hotel I was quite impressed. I and my girlfriend booked a double room for £55 and it was a spacious room with a four poster bed, couch, satellite television, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a lovely modern bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath. When we checked in the hotel staff asked us if we would like to upgrade to a room with a Jacuzzi batch for £10, we said no, but were a bit intrigued to find one anyways - they had obviously given our room away and were trying to get the extra £10 out of us...

Family-fun, friendly and easy going
Review of Princes Marine Hotel, Brighton by
niko
Advantages: Right by the sea
Disadvantages: Not in the heart of Brighton
...The Princes Marine Hotel is a 4 star hotel situated on the coastal road from Brighton to Hove. It is a newly built hotel (only a few years old) and I had the fortune to be invited to dine there in the in-house restaurant a few years ago. The food was delicious and plentiful, following traditional English recipes. The service was excellent and the bar next door that we ajourned to afterwards stocks one of the largest selections of spirits I have seen in Brighton. As for the rooms, although I didn't stay there, I heard from others in the bar that they were very clean and comfortable. I did however take a sneeky look into a few rooms and in addition I found them very cosy with TVs and en suite bathrooms.
agreed....

Brighton breezy.
Review of Brighton in general by
scraggly
Advantages: Easy to get to, something for everyone
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
.... The coach takes two hours. Both the coach and the train terminate in Central Brighton and are very frequent to and from the city.
For train times: www.railtrack.co.uk or 08457 484950

There is accomodation to suit every budget in Brighton. If you're the last of the big spenders check out The Grand (5 star), The Hilton Brighton Metropole or The Thistle Hotel (both 4 star). All located on Brighton seafront.
If you're working to more of a budget or travelling with a family you may like to try something less extravagant. There are many 3 star hotels along the seafront offering accomodation from £30 per person per night, normally including full English breakfast and VAT. Prices can vary wildly depending on the seaaon, availability and whether or not there is a conference taking place in the town...

Brightons Wicked!!
Review of Brighton in general by
Aireal
Advantages: The sea, the atmosphere, the pier.
Disadvantages: Apparentley the sea is full of excrement.
...most probably couldn't feel your feet.
There is an ace Graffitti park past the new pier at the far end next to the Marina. It is a legal park where anyone can go and paint, it is refreshing to see because you see groups of kids putting a lot of effort into their work and can work at their own pace, Montana crews frequently visit the park to paint, some of the pieces are outstanding, and worth seeing.
The best part of Brighton is the seafront and all the litlle allyways filled with cafe's and independant original shops that have plenty of character. There are a few pasta cafe's near the Thistle hotel that are excellently priced costing £2.50 for a pizza or pasta dish, and it is good food!
Brighton has a lot of students and is known to be a good place to study art....

Not a high Quality Hotel
Review of Quality Hotel, Brighton by
Timbo3107
Advantages: Great location, great breakfast
Disadvantages: Needs a refurb in bedroom areas - urgently!
...which tasted bloody awful. Overall the quality of food was very good and more than sufficient to last till evening. Whilst at the table I perused the lunch and evening options, they also looked good value for money as well, and too be honest we were tempted as the restaurant was licensed as well, but unfortunately decided not to as we were due to go out, so we had two bars within the hotel itself. Bargain!!!
Other facilities include dry cleaning and also wireless network if required, there is an Internet terminal in reception and primarily aimed at children the ability to play PS2 games through the TV, something which can be added to your final bill.
---Booking a room/ Prices---
I googled ‘Hotels in Brighton’ and was presented with a number of hotels, looking through the list, this fell within budget, and although not the cheapest, I went...

The Tranquilty That Is - Alias Seattle
Review of Alias Hotel Seattle, Brighton by
zushed
Advantages: Location, Food, Decor, Views, Ambiance
Disadvantages: Price of drinks
...Alias Hotel Seattle is set in the glamorous Brighton Marina which in itself gives you an amazing feel good factor.
The hotel is designed in what they describe as a "cruise liner" style. The room's are of contemporary design, with a 2 sink bathroom & wonderful "monsoon" showers. The sea view's are breathtaking, even on those not so happy weathered days.
Housekeeping are very friendly & respect that you may not always want them to deal with your room at the time they plan to.
The staff are also friendly & always happy to help.
Room service that you could not fault. I can highly recommend their "bento boxes" for breakfast which consist of either -
Light Bento:
Home made muesli, Greek yoghurt, honey and chopped pistachio
Baton of goat's cheese wrapped in parma ham
Toasted English muffin and fruit conserve
Luxury Bento:
Minted melon...

Old Ship Hotel is Really Very OLD!
Review of Barceló Brighton Old Ship Hotel, Brighton & Hove by
anonymili
Advantages: Service at breakfast and breakfast itself
Disadvantages: shabby rooms, noisy doors, no sound-proofing
...As part of a hen weekend package we were upgraded to the apparently 4 star Old Ship Hotel in Brighton which is Brighton's oldest hotel. I hadn't heard anything about it prior to hearing we would be staying here but having asked a few friends who'd visited Brighton quite often I didn't hear anything positive - those who had stayed there said it was pretty shabby and those who hadn't stayed said it looked pretty shabby just from the outside. Not a good start but as if was part of the hen weekend package and because we'd been upgraded for free from a 3 star hotel to the Old Ship Hotel I had to assume it couldn't be all bad - maybe it had been refurbished since my friends had seen it/stayed there.
There are apparently 50 car parking spaces for use by hotel guests which you have to pay about £15 a day and £5 overnight to use these...

Brighton on a budget
Review of Ascott House Hotel, Brighton by
carolejuliasmith2
Advantages: good location, good food, new friends
Disadvantages: small rooms
...is intimate to say the least!
The rooms are varied in shape and amenities, they have TV and tea & coffee making facilities, but we find OK for our week's stay, I believe that they do evening meals but there are so many eateries around that it would be a shame just to stay in.
Breakfasts are wonderful and plentiful.
Don't take our word - go and see it yourselves.

Not Too Comfy For Me
Review of Old Ship Hotel, Brighton by
yingli.lim
Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Old building thst needs more improvement to be internationally competitive.
...like this one. It is directly next to the sea so you may have a really great view if you get one of the rooms facing the sea, which is also by the main road. What I enjoyed most was the typical english breakfast on the 2 mornings I was there. The quality of the service is not outstanding either. All in all, I would probably try another hotel or some Bed and Breakfast during my next visit to Brighton as there were no compelling reasons for me to go back to the Old Ship....
