Manchester Britannia Airport Hotel
Review of Britannia Airport Hotel, Manchester by
Lurdle
Advantages: free parking
Disadvantages: see review
...I would like to take this opportunity in sharing my experience in the Manchester Airport Hotel.
My friend and I had booked a room (no. 321) for one night in the Manchester Airport Hotel for 11th August 2007 at the cost of 49 British pounds.
Upon unpacking I noticed that of the two towels provided in the bathroom, the smaller one, showed a large very yellow stain running down the middle of it, the larger one was acceptably clean. One additional large towel could be located in the wardrobe. I rang reception and requested further towels from the young lady answering the phone. Within 2 minutes the night Manager rang back and suggested that I "look in the wardrobe". Having stated that I had indeed already done this, the "manager" started a debate with me. Here I quote from the hotel services hotel information brochure "An additional set...

Britannia Airways
Review of Britannia Airways - BAL by
Disillusioned
Advantages: On time, not bad for a holiday airline
Disadvantages: Poor food, cramped
..., Birmingham, East Midlands, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Humberside, Teeside, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Though they have very few flights from some of these airports.
Overall Britannia aren’t a bad airline but I would avoid going with them at all costs long-haul. Legroom is fair, other airlines are definitely more generous. And if you compare Britannia to Monarch, they seem quite a good airline....

Britannia: The serene... Yeah right!!
Review of Britannia Airways - BAL by
chizster
Advantages: Good food; large route network; mostly on time
Disadvantages: Sleazy cabin crew; old planes; sometimes expensive
...cost a small fortune (starting from £150 for long haul, £40 for short). More details on this are available from the Britannia website; I cannot comment on these features as I have not used them.
At the Airport
Cardiff Airport has superb parking and boasts that it has the cheapest long-stay car park South of Manchester. Although the car parks are quite close to the airport, there is an airport bus that operates between the car park and the main terminal building. The bus was very good and took us right up to the front doors.
Although there was quite a long queue for check-in, there were many refreshment machines dotted around and with me in eager anticipation for a nice holiday the time seemed to fly past. The check-in staff operating on behalf of Britannia at Cardiff were Servisair, and truly provided ‘service with a smile’. We...

Britannia airways
Review of Britannia Airways - BAL by
tmooha10
Advantages: Good punctuality record
Disadvantages: poor leg room
...taken last year by JMC (now Thomas cook).
Check in.
Check in for flights varies slightly depending on where you fly from. The larger airports such as Gatwick or Manchester have dedicated check in 'tui' check in areas. However the majority of other airports operate check in where ever it is available in the airport at that time. There are always at least two check-in desks (one which is for premium and executive check in customers). At all airports in the UK Britannia use ServisAir for ground handling.
Check-in form your resort airport will vary depending on local conditions but will usually be of the same standard.
Pre booked seats.
There are very many popular misconceptions when it comes to pre booked seats. Many people see it as £10 for nothing (they believe that you can just turn up at the airport early and get the seats...

Manchester - Location location location
Review of Britannia by
sue.51
Advantages: Very convenient and good prices
Disadvantages: No parking facilities, lack of real air and light in budget rooms
...The Britannia Hotel (actual name) is one of five from the Britannia Chain in the Manchester area, and one of two in the City Centre, the chain appears to be expanding all the time.
Most of the company's hotels are in the North and Midlands, although they do have venues in Brighton, Gatwick and London.
THE BRITANNIA
It is located in Portland Street opposite Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel, and walking distance from G-Mex, the Arndale Centre, Granada TV studios and Piccadilly Square (where all the trams meet) and has 363 bedrooms, including, singles, doubles and family suites.
There are a number of good bars (including Yates and Wetherspoons) and restaurants (chose from Indian, Chinese, Thai and Italian) within a few minutes walk.
The hotel has a couple of restaurants including Bar-Roque which offers meals starting from £5...

Britannia Stockport - a good budget stopover
Review of Britannia Hotel, Stockport by
tishnumf
Advantages: Cheap, spacious, good location
Disadvantages: Old fashioned decor, poor service on a few occasions
...My husband and I spent last weekend in Manchester visiting friends and family, and chose Britannia Stockport Hotel as our base for the weekend. The hotel is situated on Dialstone Lane in Offerton, Stockport, and is about 5 minutes away from the M60 ringroad around Manchester. I had previously read several reviews of this hotel on other websites suggesting that the hotel was terrible – dirty rooms, poor service etc. However we decided to give it a try as it was an ideal location for us and for less than £90 for three nights for both of us the price was unbeatable.
I originally found information about the hotel by searching for hotels in Stockport on www.lastminute.com, which states that the hotel is 3*, and that the “bedrooms are dated but clean and are also currently being refurbished.”

Ruling in Manchester now too?
Review of Britannia Hotel Manchester, Manchester by
scuba_angel
Advantages: reasonable price if booked in advance
Disadvantages: none really
...As with my previous recent reviews this forms a part of my need to get a life ethos, and even though I live a short distance from Manchester on a planned night out on the town I decided it was better worth my time staying over than drunkely seeking the nightbus home. So armed with my trusty cashback paying link to a hotelbooking site I found this one for the night.
I paid £50 for a doubleroom with no food included, the hotels standard rate is around £66 so a considerable saving especially given I only booked a few days before I wanted to stay.
The hotel itself is seconds from Picadilly Gardens which is the location of a large bus station and a tram stop which runs between the two main train stations, it is also a few minutes walk from the main Bus Station in the city where the National Express coaches stop.
The hotel has...

Fantastic Building - Awful Hotel
Review of Britannia Hotel Manchester, Manchester by
strow
Advantages: Fantastic architure and history to this Grade II listed building
Disadvantages: Now contains a cheap and noisy hotel
...This review is mainly about the hotel building and it's local amenities (there are some other reviews on here detailing visitors experiences).
If you are looking for affordable accommodation in a perfect location in Manchester City Centre, then the Britannia Hotel in Manchester cit centre seems to fit the bill. Unfortunately however, the rooms, atmosphere and general politeness of staff are somewhat lacking. I would recommend staying somwehere else, such as the Portland Thistle hotel next door, or the Piccadilly Gardens hotel (a short walk away). The Britannia does seem to attract most of the stag do's in town and irish football fans when Manchester United are playing at home. As beer on the hotel premises is so cheap, the hotel is very noisy at weekends into the early hours and there can be occasional bouts of trouble (the hotel has...

BET LYNCH COMES HERE
Review of Britannia Hotel (Manchester) by
LostWitness
Advantages: Location, Internet discounts, dining
Disadvantages: Budget rooms, staff
...Those of you who regularly watch ITV1 may have seen the recent trailers advertising the return of Bet Lynch to Coronation Street. In the trailers, we saw Bet garbed in full leopard skin splendour, descending a rather ornate looking staircase. At first glance, the location looks not unlike a stately home – but I know better. As soon as I saw the trailer, I recognised the staircase immediately. It is actually the main staircase for the Britannia Hotel, which is situated in Central Manchester.
A few months ago, I chaired a recognition event in Manchester for a project team – you may recall my opinion about the tavern Effe’s, where we dined and belly danced. As a number of members of the team had travelled a long way, I also arranged overnight hotel accommodation through my normal travel agent. One of the few hotels...

I stayed in the worst hotel in Britain!
Review of Britannia Airport Hotel, Manchester by
micksheff
Advantages: Good Location, Cheap
Disadvantages: So Many - See Review
...It's official I have stayed in Britain's worst hotel, or at least according to a recent survey I have. A survey undertaken by the Internet based Travel Company, tripadvisor.com found three hotels within the Britannia group of hotels within its top ten list of the worst hotels to stay in the UK.
At the very top of this poll was the Britannia Manchester Airport hotel where I had the "pleasure" of staying last October.
We chose this particular hotel because the literature promised "a hassle free start to your holiday." A search through various websites for cheap hotels around Manchester Airport brought up the details of this place at a total cost of £83 for three people sharing the same room. This price was without breakfast, which was not a problem since we were leaving before breakfast would be served anyhow. More importantly...
