Cala Galdana, Menorca.
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
kunifer
Advantages: Relaxing,peaceful.
Disadvantages: Expensive. Very steep hills.
...Late June 2003.
Cala Galdana is an easy 20-30 minutes drive from Mahon airport, when you find your way out of the Airport. Just Head for Ciutadella once you find the traffic island with the large sundial your on your way. As you go up through Ferreries, a small inland town and round a couple of sharp bends, there is a left hand turn that takes you directly to Cala Galdana. You arrive at a traffic island, left and right take you up to the accommodations above the bay, while straight on and down the hill will take you over the river, the beach and to the main commercial area.
Most of the accommodation seems to be apartments or villas, which have some very steep climbs; certainly the villa we stayed in was quite a walk (1.2km) from the main shopping and bar areas. Our villa was to the left of the bay up past the Sol Hotel Elite...

cala galdana
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
amslowinski
Advantages: Beautiful scenery, lovely beach
Disadvantages: Beach can get crowded in August
...If you want a relaxing, stress-free holiday then you should try Cala Galdana. If you are a typical teenager - forget it! Cala Galdana is a small resort about 30 minutes from the main town on the island,Mahon. It is situated on what is generally agreed to be the most beautiful bay in Menorca. The view from the balcony of my hotel room was stunning and I coud step out of the lift practically onto the beach.
There are no nightclubs in Cala Galdana and only a few bars and restaurants, so if you're looking for wild nightlife this is not the place for you.
I stayed at the Sol Elite Gavilanes and would thoroughly recommend it. The standard of accommodation was excellent as was the food although the evening entertainment was a bit variable.
All in all this was an excellent holiday and I would definitely recommend Cala Galdana...

Menorca, a family paradise?
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
j_wozza
Advantages: Scenic, quiet family orientated beaches, short travel time.
Disadvantages: Expensive, maybe too quiet for some.
...to get about and usually cheaper than the tour operators excursions. We hired a rather funny looking minivan for 75 Euros for one day but smaller cars were about 35 euros. The island is small and consists of one road going from Mahon at one end to Cuitadela with coastal roads going off, so driving is quite easy when you get used to driving on the left. We visited several places including....
MAHON
Lovely capital town with historic buildings and an amazing harbour. Some very expensive looking yachts. I believe Richard Branson has a home here.
CUITADELA
The old town is lovely, winding narrow streets, gifts shops and lovely churches with a small harbour.
CALA GALDANA
This is one of the most scenic resorts on the island. It has a small waterpark, lovely beach framed with wooded areas and lots of bars and cafes. Apparantly...

Great location, shame about the food!
Review of Hotel Audax Spa & Wellness Centre, Cala Galdana by
bean372042
Advantages: Great spot in a great resort
Disadvantages: Food not great, bar service terrible
...For the last few years our family stayed at the hotel Gavilanes in Cala Galdana, Menorca. However The prices were getting high and we decided to try another 4 star hotel in the area.
The Hotel Audax is right opposite the beautiful beach, across a small road. It has 244 rooms over 7 floors with 4 lifts. From the outside it looks lika a typical spanish 4 star hotel. However inside the reception is bright and cheerful with local art pieces dotted about. The first problem I had was at check in at the reception. I had booked two twin rooms on the same floor, but was told that the rooms were three floors apart and one was a double. They did try and make amends and said that they could move us the next day, but as we were only there for a week we decided to stay put.
The rooms: Unusually for spanish hotels the corridors to the rooms...

Cala N Bosch- Menorca
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
bubblyblonde45
Advantages: Great sights, lovely weather, fantastic location
Disadvantages: None
...Hi there!
I have just returned back today from Menorca, and had such a fantastic time, I wanted to share my experience in case anyone is looking for a brilliant holiday in the near future.
Myself and my partner arrived in Mahon (the recently made capital of Menorca) on 4th May 2007. We were travelling with Thomas Cook, and had booked a week in the Valentin Star Hotel (4*) located in Cala N Bosch on the South west Coast of Menorca. We had booked half board, which also included in flight meals. Booking about 6 months in advance, and booking online via the internet, the entire package for 2 of us cost the bargain price of under £500! I believe we saved about £400 by booking online. Transfers were also included, and all in all, the service was quick, efficient, and with friendly staff.
Environment:
Menorca is noted for its...

Things You Never Knew You Never Knew
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
zoe_page
Advantages: Nice, family place, beautiful beaches and scenary
Disadvantages: Not overly lively
...is for BEACHES
Menorca has 216 km of coastline, and 123 beaches. One of the most famous of these is Cala Galdana – the setting for the 1999 Bounty advert and the place where Grace Kelley had her honeymoon. It’s a glorious place on the south of the island, although it’s becoming more commercialised each year. Other playas worth visiting include Arenal d’en Castell and Son Parc in the north and Son Bou and Turqueta in the south. Son Bou is the largest, longest beach on the island, and the rest are split into small-ish stretches or tiny coves (cala or cala’n in the place name implies a cove rather than a typical golden mile style beach). The water is generally incredibly clear, making it perfect for snorkelling. Nudist sunbathing is illegal on the island, but that doesn’t stop people. Then there’s those who...

It is my Island so PISS OFF
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
clanmac4
Advantages: A superb Family Island which caters for a quieter holiday than say Ibiza.
Disadvantages: If you are teenagers or in your twenties and like loud music and a hectic holiday with lots of casual sex - give it a miss.
...Please excuse the title, but it is my island it is idylic and you are not welcome. Of course there is no harm in telling you about it, cos you wont see it! This year will be our 3rd Package Holiday to the Magnificent Balearic Island of Menorca.
We have stayed in Binnibecca and Cala Galdana and we have visited Mahon and Ciutadella. We are going again of course this year, in July. This year we are going to Punta Prima and no it is not where the Designer of a certain Italian Car was born, at least I don’t think so.
Holidays don’t you just love them? Why do we need them? Go on them? Look forward to them?
For me it’s the escapism. A desire to get away from the rat race called life and to spend 2 weeks of quality time with my wife and two children, oh I forgot to mention that we are going (again) with the outlaws...

Two Week In Heaven
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
Scatz500
Advantages: Inspirational views, gorgeous beaches, idyllic resorts
Disadvantages: Too quiet for some
...was informed before the holiday to eat traditional Lobster stew at a restaurant called Es Pla. Apparently it’s so good the King of Spain eats there. However after fainting at the price of this Royal dish (Approx £38 a portion) I lost my appetite.
++Other Bits++
An absolute must if holidaying in Menorca is the exploration of the beaches. The best are difficult to reach and can take up to an hours walk or a VERY bumpy car ride over farmland. However their beauty and tranquillity are worth the effort. Never have I felt more relaxed and stress free than at Cala Turqueta on the South Coast, arguably the most gorgeous beach on the island and one of the quietest because of the difficulty in getting to it. We arrived by boat, which was preferential to the 90-minute walk from the resort of Cala Galdana.
Menorca is famous for it Gin, known...

Comfortable hotel in the "queen of coves"
Review of Hotel Cala Galdana, Minorca by
Freddy555
Advantages: Central location
Disadvantages: Small pool area
...This is a nice, comfortable 4 star hotel. It is very centrally located in the resort of Cala Galdana so if you like to people watch then get a sea view room and watch the world go by. In fact only get a seaview room because the rooms at the rear of the hotel are overlooked by a steep rock strewn cliff which casts a shadow all day.
The resort is set in a beautiful cove with a wide cresent-shaped beach. The water as a consequence is very warm and calm. The cove is flanked on each side by cliffs that can be climbed quite easily to get a great view of the resort below. If you carry on in either direction a 40 minute walk will get you to the next coves along this southern coast of the island.
The resort is quite small, has plenty of restaurants for all tastes and a very low-key night life. In fact the most popular evening entertainment...

Menorca - Island Of Dreams
Review of Menorca (Spain) by
Lynx101
Advantages: Sun, Sand
Disadvantages: ??
...About four years ago I went to Menorca for a two week holdiday. We went HalfBoard to a hotel called the Admirante Faragate. I have not been abroad that much but this was the best holiday I have ever been on. Two weeks of sun, sand and , but I wont go into that. The beaches were out of this world and the people were very welcoming. The was no yobs or anything like that and you felt very safe walking about at night. We stayed on the west side of the island in a place called Cala Forcat. There are allot of beaches and coves that are out of this world and it is so relaxing. The price for food and drinks are very reasonable. I would reccommend a holiday to Menorca any day....
