* CANADA - Part 2: Calgary Int. Airport *
Review of Calgary, Canada (YYC) by
Rini
Advantages: ----
Disadvantages: So much!!
...nice! You can get tickets in hotels or directly in the bus!
PARKING
~~~~~
There is multi-storey car park at the opposite of the terminal, one for long and one for short time. We paid 3,5oCAN$ in the short time parking, whereby the first half hour was free. The other multi-storey car park costs a dollar per hour. Likewise there is a lot of free parking.
For unloading or loading you can shortly park just in front of the terminal. Here a man walks around and sees to it that the people quickly move on so that there’s no chaos as I know it from other airports
You can’t pay at the automat as I was used to. Before the exit there are several switches, where one can also pay by credit card.
ARRIVAL
~~~~~~
In the afternoon we arrived in Calgary. First we went a long course along, which was quite dark. The walls mostly consisted...

A hotel in downtown Calgary.
Review of International Hotel, Calgary by
jo145
Advantages: Suite hotel in downtown Calgary with great food
Disadvantages: Some traffic noise
...Our travel agent reserved a suite for us at the International Hotel in Downtown Calgary for the first night of our Canadian holiday. Opened in 1970 with 248 suites, it was only 6km from the airport and reached in about 15 minutes by taxi, but the estimated time on the airport shuttle bus was 1 hour as it stops at several hotels en route. Calgary has a structure of avenues and streets in grid formation and the hotel is on 4th Avenue Southwest, close to Chinatown and two blocks away from the Light railway for getting around the city.
Reception, was bright and comfortable settees and chairs were around the long narrow area. Check in was quick and easy and a credit card was needed for incidental expenses, in no time we were directed to one of the lifts and would have been zooming our way to the 7th floor and our suite if we had realised...

Calgary - The Gateway to Two Worlds
Review of Calgary (Canada) by
aliree
Advantages: Safe, friendly, good transport
Disadvantages: Extremely cold winters
...around on foot is quite easy. During the extreme winter temperatures, the downtown area can be navigated using enclosed walkways between buildings, above street level.
At first, shopping seemed quite limited. You soon realise that most of the shops are concealed in shopping malls. Again, this is to counter the -40C winter temperatures that hit Calgary for months on end. Most hotels have tourist maps in the lobby area which show the locations of the main malls.
There are numerous coffee shops and restaurants to choose from. The Subway chain is good for the economy lunch, serving a great choice of huge sandwiches, filled french sticks and wraps. They are about £3-4 each with a drink. My personal favourite for dinner was The Old Spaghetti Factory found at 222 3rd Street SW. You can have unlimited soft drinks and garlic bread, soup...

Luxury, Ramada Calgary style!
Review of Ramada Hotel Downtown, Calgary by
gt5952
Advantages: Loads
Disadvantages: None
...The Ramada Hotel in Calgary (Canada) is a personal favorite, and when in Calgary, I wont stay anywhere else, indeed, I am willing to travel an hour or so just to stay there!
My son loved it too (But not as much as the theme hotel in Edmonton (Different room every night!)
The Ramada Hotel Downtown located in the booming metropolis of Calgary and only one hour from the beautiful Canadian Rockies to the west. Its within walking distance of the local attractions, city businesses and the shopping malls nearby.
The hotel advertises as having 200 rooms, but it has 201, strange, but true!
IMAGINE THIS
As you walk through the doors from the street, you are met by immaculate cleanliness, and a high standard of service, as you can expect with the Ramada group.
Often, as the cab pulls up outside, a doorman opens the cab door...

Everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel
Review of Mediterranean Beach Hotel, Limassol by
Mgeo1000
Advantages: Location, facilities, standards
Disadvantages: Not really suitable for families
...Excellent location right on the beach, good facilities and used for business conferences too. Food is good although can be repetitive, I would suggest bed and breakfast, they offer an excellent choice for breakfast. Very relaxed friendly service, although I do feel at times this was slow, one member of staff didnt speak very good English I wouldnt have minded but they were not local either, think they need to look at this in a 4 star hotel. The rooms are of a good standard and very clean, towels etc changed daily. There is internet access from your room if you want it or you can use the hotels payable pcs for interenet. I would say for standards and location and also luxury I would rate this a 4 star plus. The hotel is located amongst 5 star hotels with a number of restaurants, bars and tourist shops nearby, there is also a bus stop...

Fairmont Palliser - Calgary. Cow towns best?
Review of The Fairmont Palliser, Calgary by
NomisG
Advantages: Grand comfort, good location, great price.
Disadvantages: No airport shuttle bus.
...top notch! It was also exceptionally quiet and we were only on the 4th floor, so expected some traffic noise but heard none.
The advertised prices for meals etc are rather expensive for Canada. We ate at a pub on the road behind the hotel, which was a bit basic but advertised '150 beers from around the world'. The European (especially Belgian) examples were at very descent prices for Canada where import beer can be shockingly expensive. Try some of the local microbrews - they are very drinkable.
The hotels location is very good. There is good (and cheap) shopping to be had in the area - especially at Winners, a discount fashion chain not unlike TK Max in concept, but less emphasis on hoodies and track pants etc. We also found an excellent Indian restaurant a few blocks away (Royal India, 150 Sun Life Plaza, 112-4th Ave SW, Calgary. (Tel...

Albufeira (Portugal) 4 Star Self Catering Hotel
Review of Brisa Sol Hotel Apartmento, Albufeira by
martinwi
Advantages: Near all amenities. Good central Location.
Disadvantages: You cannot book the sun (pity)
...it. On the north side are a few shops, houses and buildings. On the south (beach) side are many of the hotels, shops, and restaurants.
Brisa Sol Hotel:
This is a 4 star self catering Hotel. There are about 6 levels with rooms on most levels and 2 medium sized lifts.
The hotel is within a 15 min walk to either the old town or the new town.
The rough cost in the medium season will be about £400 for 7 days and you could experience the following:-
Reception:
This is open 24 hours a day with English speaking staff. A bowl of nice boiled sweets is always on top! They sell tickets to hotel functions, act as a bureau de change and also sell tickets to assorted trips. Check their prices to the tour operators, as the hotel is usually cheaper.
Rooms:
All rooms are on-suite with a toilet and bath/shower. All have settee's and a TV...

Travelodge Calgary Airport - its nasty!
Review of Calgary International Airport Travelodge Hotel, Calgary by
NomisG
Advantages: None to speak of.
Disadvantages: Dirty, noisy, no food, BAD location, creepy staff.....
...Oh boy! Where to start.
We stayed here on the first night of a recent ski holiday. We wanted somewhere close to the airport and cheap as we picked up our hire car to head to Radium, BC, early the next morning. The hotel is not particularly close to the airport and is in a terrible location next to an industrial park. The only food in the area is from 'Boston Pizza' and is not particularly good and is definitely expensive for Canada.
Well, our room was small - the queen bed suspiciously so - didn't feel or look particularly clean was noisy and all in all pretty poor. Good job we 'only ' paid C$100 (£50) for the night! (See my review of the Fairmont in Calgary to see what onother C$30 gets you). I would not have wanted to eat here - even if food had been available. In the morning we even decided to leave without showering because...
