Tyres at continental European prices
Review of mytyres.co.uk by
steven_mccullin
Advantages: Continental European prices
Disadvantages: none
...Mytyres.co.uk has great web site. It has features that you would expect. You can select tyres by size or by model. The best feature is the customer reviews of tyres on tyretest.com. By reading the reviews you can get a good feel for what the tyres will deliver. You can get a tyre that fits your driving style and needs. This feature has helped direct me to tyres that fit my needs exactly. Just as importantly they have kept me away from other tyres.
A fancy web site in nothing without service however and mytyres.co.uk excels in customer service. I have ordered tyres and other car parts from mytyres.co.uk and they have never let me down. The orders always arrive in about 3 days. No fuss no muss. The tyre advisors are very helpful. Unlike many tyre stores, which will pressure you into the tyres they are trying to unload that day. The web...

Grip like a fishwife and better looking! Edited ..
Review of Continental ContiPremiumContact Tire by
smudgeybabes
Advantages: Grip in wet. Roadholding.
Disadvantages: Price is always a disadvantage, but not too expensive in this case.
...I write this review from my own experience, I have gone into a corner too fast and left the road. Nothing to do with the tyres, it was all my fault, and I was just glad the tyres were as good as they were, otherwise I may not have been here to tell the tale. I have been driving cars for 32 years and trucks just thirty. I have had a few skids in that time, (before ABS) and think that tyres are more important than steering or brakes.
For the first time in my life, I have bought a full set of tyres for my car, and my choice was Continentals. The actual model (Conti Premium Contact) was chosen by my ex boss who is in the tyre trade, and I trust him.
I was unimpressed by the fact that my tyres being sixteen inch were more expensive than fifteen, or even seventeens! Apparently this is due to supply and demand, they don't make...

grippier than a grippy thing with good grip
Review of Toyo Tyres by
cootuk
Advantages: grippy and wear well
Disadvantages: not too many stockists
...I just bought some secondhand alloy wheels for my Volvo 850 so I thought I would buy a new set of tyres for these and keep the old tyres on the steel wheels for winter. Previously I have had Pirelli P6000, and then Continental Ecocontacts (which showed a loss of grip pulling away hard from some junctions where the road surface is worn). The Ecocontacts also wore away surprisingly quickly.
I replaced the Ecocontacts with Toyo Roadpro R610s as I had heard a few whispers that Toyo were quite good. These were as grippy as the other tyres and wore surprisingly well, the roadholding being quite good too.
I therefore went to my local stockist (found from a postcode search at Toyos UK website) and asked for the prices of the R610s in the size 195-60-15. Unfortunately they only had three tyres in, but they did have four Toyo Proxes T1s 205...

Best Family Car And Cheaper Than The Competition
Review of Mazda 6 by
shaneday
Advantages: Superb Handling, Diesel Engines, Brakes
Disadvantages: Wind And Road Noise
...I bought the Mazda 6 Estate TS2 136 Diesel and considering the price, i was absolutely amazed at what fantastic value for money it was! A special mention has to go to the brakes of this car, they are absolutely fantastic, even on a big load lugging estate that i had, just the slightest touch on the brakes was enough to ping the car to a halt in seconds. The handling of this car is also what sets it apart from the competition, the light steering along with the impressive diesel engines do make this a fantastic car to take round the rural B roads. The diesel engines are all incredibly quiet with fantastic pulling power and good fuel consumption.
The TS2 spec also brings some great extra equipment especially the Bose 6 speaker sound system with subwoofer which you dont even get standard in many higher class cars let alone a £19,000 family...

Blackcircles.com - not quite independent
Review of Blackcircles.com by
randeep.panjabi
Advantages: Easy to navigate website, pleasant phone operator
Disadvantages: Will try to sell you whatever makes them most £££
...Recently I discovered that the tyres of me VW Golf 1.8 were badly worn and that replacement was urgently needed.
According to the manual, I required four 195/65/15. Continental, it appears, is the recommended choice of Volkswagen. However, I was need of new tyres and didn’t really bother what brand.
I had a look around my local town and came back with three quotes, ranging from Kwick-Fit to my local tyre dealer. Kwick-Fit came out most expensive, a staggering £85.67 per tyre (Continental Premium Contact 2) and Euromaster recommended me a Michelin Energy E3A for an equally heavy £88.45. My local tyre dealer offered me two sets of tyres, 2 x Good Year and 2 x Continental for £350 fully fitted all together.
They all seemed far too expensive for me. I just wanted a reliable set of tyres.
So I turned to the Internet and made a simple...

RICHADA AND Mr BIBENDUM IN PERFECT HARMONY!
Review of Michelin Tyres by
RICHADA
Advantages: Longevity. Quality. Ride, Handling and Low Noise. Good Investment.
Disadvantages: Expensive - But You Get What You Pay For!
...of them is hard to say!
I can tell you that the Omega was a much better car to drive on Michelin Pilot Primacy's than Pirelli P6000's and that the £120 saving on the full set of Pirelli tyres was more than lost due to their faster wear rate.
The Omega, as with our current car, was not only used extensively on business in this country, but was making two annual journeys across Europe to Poland. This journey involves every conceivable type of road surface - some even without surface - and during the summer, extensive use of the "de-restricted" German autobahn. That includes cruising speeds of above 120mph. These tyres are certainly well up to continental touring.
I would remind you of the need here, whatever make of tyre is fitted to your car, to increase the tyre pressures according to the car makers recommendations if you are intending...

Great British Classic
Review of Bentley Continental SC by
im_not_batman
Advantages: Highly reliable, great features
Disadvantages: Expensive to fuel
...never had a problem with it, except a flat tyre which I had to call the AA out for. Not because I can't change tyres, but because the car is so goddam heavy, its hard to jack up.
The car is very well built and is perfect for people on the road a lot, also for children who find car journeys uncomfortable, my children love the fact the seats feel like the sofa at home.
The car is pretty poor on consumption though, I can usually get about 25mpg on a good day but im usually down to 20 going through cities.
I've never crashed the car but it feels like Fort Knox behind the wheel, and I'd hate to be on the recieving end of a shunt from this car which looks like the Bank of England from the front....

A Grip To Reality
Review of Michelin Tyres by
MuratM
Advantages: Good grip, low rolling resistance and noise
Disadvantages: Warps very quickly, weak sidewalls
...tyres proved that she was a severly understeering car at a speed of only 80km/h when negotiating a curve of only 30 degrees. Astonishingly however, the same car proved to be steering like a go-kart as soon as I equipped her with a set of much cheaper 205/50x15 Maxxis MA-V1' s.
Please do not go telling me a mere 10mm extra width endulged me into a miraculous grip. I would not believe you...
All in all, I would stay away from Michelin's since the Pilote used to be the best seller of Michelin. If that is the best, the rest should be nightmares.
I could spend the same amount and get a superb set of Continentals, Good Years or Bridgestones. Even better yet, I can spend even much less and get a set of Maxxis, Toyo or Falkens which are better tyres.
Don' t just resat upon the words of the dealer trying to make his 15% out of the sale. Shuffle...

I argue with these people - fantastic car
Review of Renault Clio 1.9 dTi by
Yozza
Advantages: read the above description
Disadvantages: tyre shredder
...all of those BMW drivers who decided to camp on my rear bumper on the way to work... Cloud of rubber and I would be gone, they are there going down through the gears trying to save face and keep up.
The one gripe I have has been in 10,000 mile, the front tyres were shredded.. new michelin tyres have replaced the continental tyres that came as standard, so that should have solved that.
The motor looks absolutely gorgeous, and drives the same, anyone who argues must have had a beat up old version...
THE NEW ONE IS AS RARE AS ROCKING HORSE DROPPINGS... if you can get one buy it!
Andrew

Continental Grand Prix MTB
Review of Continental Grand Prix by
bicyclerubber
Advantages: Make an MTB better on road
Disadvantages: Can be hard to find. No good off road
...Continental have produced the Grand Prix tyre in mtb size. 26" x 1"
It has the same tread pattern as the road tyre and is very light (c.200g)
Foldable too - with a kevlar bead
I rode them on my Specialised mtb over the summer on a commute (8 miles each way) and they are superb for use on the road. It is the closest to a road bike tyre that I have ever seen, is very responsive and feels fast!
If you ride an mtb mostly on the road and can feel the energy sapping from your legs with big knobbly tyres, you could do far worse than get a pair of these!
They seem very durable too and can be inflated to decent pressures too - I ran them at close to 100 psi
They are quite rare in shops and I had to search through a few on line stores to find one that listed them and had them in stock....
