Requiring a convenient hotel to stay in overnight on our return from Poland in May, we discovered the Amber Hotel whilst searching for hotels adjacent to E40 (the main East / West continental route) in the Chemnitz area. Last year we stayed in a hotel called the Drei Shwanen, previously reviewed - about five miles to the south west of here. The Amber looked perfectly situated (and easy to find) very close to a motorway junction. The fact that it was a four star hotel offering a double room on the Saturday night for a mere 68 Euros made it all the more attractive! ...Situated in East Grinstead, West Sussex this hotel is counted as a Gatwick Airport Hotel. Compared to all the other Gatwick hotels and all other hotels I have stayed in, this has to be one of the best. The hotel has recently been taken over in the last year and gone through a 5 million pound refurbishment taking the hotel and spa to 4* Deluxe Status from its previous 2* rating. I did not visit the hotel when it was previously owned so cannot compare. I drive past this hotel every day and it always catches my eye, it looks really nice. I first went into the hotel to take a look at the spa. It is made to look as if it is in the wild west, with horses, cowboys etc. You've seen all the movies. It does look real, and every detail has been put in to make it look "wild west". The main reception building, where the restaurant is, and other hotel buildings surrounding it have funky wild west writing on the sides of the buildings which says things like "Saloon" "Jail" and "Billy The Kid". This is a good idea, not the names of each hotel building but gives the hotel that extra feel of the hotel area. There are around 10 different hotel blocks, each separated. The main building is where most people go at breakfast, at dinner if they choose to eat there, or when they check in, or out. This is a good place to meet as a meeting point... Read review

Background to our visit ******************* Back in February I placed a booking with Exodus (an 'adventure travel' company) for a trip to Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas with a stay in Delhi at either end of visit. I'd rejected the flight inclusive option (because it used Gulf Air) and splashed out many years worth of Virgin Flying Club 'miles' on two economy tickets for my husband and myself. ...This has to be one of the hardest reviews of a hotel I have written. Why? Because normally I end up in a marvellous hotel with superb facilities and staff or a true dump of a place with mouldy bathrooms and no service at all. I do not like giving 3 stars with reviews as it doesn't really give a good indication as to whether the hotel is good or bad, but in this case I am forced too. There were no major problems with this hotel, nothing to make me recommended people avoid it. However, at the same time, there is nothing that would definitely attract any repeat business from me. Booking & Pricing As with most flight and hotel trips that I book, I used expeida.co.uk to get the best deal I could find on this hotel. ...offering this package on teletext, and to our surprise they had a fully inclusive holiday to Alcudia for 7 nights at the Hotel Jupiter/Saturno for £315 per person……..If a hand had appeared magically out of the telephone me and Sarah would have bitten it off, but lets just say we accepted the holiday graciously.
