Thie Select -ion is too narrow!
Review of Carlton Select by travel-expert

Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text

...I used to have this Channel back in the days when I had an ON Digital receiver (I shall not bore you here with my reasons for ditching it in favour of B Sky B, as these are well documented in other sections - suffice to say, the bloody thing did not work well!). Due to the dog in the manger attitude of Carlton (who happen to be major shareholders in ON digital), the SKY satellite cannot carry ITV, ITV2 or channels from the Carlton stable such as Carlton Select. Basically, it is a poor man's version of UK Gold and Granada Plus, but without the back catalogue of those two better established organisations (and it shows!). The only thing I miss is Soldier, Soldier - and that has since turned up on the Living channel!... Read review

Old but classy
Review of Vauxhall Carlton Diplomat by rowemg

Advantages: cheap, lots of extras
Disadvantages: bit old now

...I own a J reg Vauxhall Carlton Diplomat. This is the top of the Carlton Range and has a large number of extras as standard. I paid £6000 3 years ago and believe you can pick one up now for far less. It has been the most reliable car and has never let me down in the 60,000 miles I have done in it. It comes with ABS, Power Assisted steering, Leather seats,CD player, Electric windows, Electric sunroof, Heated front seats, Air conditioning, and is quite some vehicle for the money They also havea reputation for longevity and reliability If you are looking for an executive type car on a low budget you could do far worse than this.... Powerful Brute
Review of Vauxhall Carlton Diplomat by D1A1UK

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Old, new cars are better

...The Vauxhall carlton has now been replaced by the Omega, but in it's day it was one of the largest and more comfortable 'big cars'. I remember that the styling wasn't that great, but you could fall asleep in one so easily, as the seats were and probably are some of the most comfortable around. At the time this wasn't the biggest Vauxhall, although it was big enough, there was the Vauxhall Senator which wasn't anywhere near as popular, but still another great car; so I suppose the Omega has replaced both of them. Carltons - plenty available second hand and you could pick up a really quick one in good shape for around £2000 which is amazing value. Just search the adverts for sale at places like loot and autotrader.... Read review

Get it together Carlton!
Review of Carlton Airblade 2000 by newb00ts

Advantages: Light, beautifully weighted racket
Disadvantages: Very poor build quality

...This was the fourth Carlton racket I came to own and the most expensive. The previous two Carlton rackets had been great rackets, perfectly balanced and light. Unfortunately both these two rackets had suffered from what Iam now coming to believe is the curse of Carlton. They both broke within three months of receiving them, the first snapped and the second cracked. The strange thing about the last of these rackets is that it was a replacement racket for the previous one which Carlton said had been faulty. When this one broke too I sent it back to Carlton and they sent me the next model up, the airblade 2000. When I received this racket I found out that it was used by a number of professional players including Richard Vaughan the former UK number 1 at singles. ----Specification---- The AirbladeTM 2000 is the most techically... Crackin' Carlton!
Review of Harmonium - Vanessa Carlton by chezluce

Advantages: Carlton has clearly had more creative input on this record
Disadvantages: That's not always a good thing, some songs are a bit samey

...Carlton has returned with her second album after a long break from the spotlight. The longevity of the recording process definitely shows on the record. It is clear to see that Carlton has matured immensely during her break and her songs now contain a great deal of hindsight, dealing with growing up, becoming a woman and gaining independence from her family. The stand out tracks for me are definitely tracks 2,3 and 4. 'Who's To Say' has been on repeat for weeks. 'Annie' is the most heart-wrenching song, written for a young dying girl. 'San Francisco' is probably the most upbeat and catchy song. Along with the hit single White Houses and catchy 'Private Radio' it makes for a great album. The less impressive tracks for me would be the the last 2, 'She Floats' and 'The Wreckage'. Much like her first album, 'Be... Read review

Regional Stations
Review of ITV by andrewbolton

Advantages: Regional news is often better than BBC (Especially Meridan Tonight vs South Today)
Disadvantages: Tacky programmes

...I thought the idea of ITV was that it was 'regional'. At home in Sussex, Meridian has the standard ITV logos and trailers instead of the sun/moon logo we used to have, while here in Coventry Central calls itself Carlton, yet still has Central News. What was wrong with each different ITV station having their own logos and trailers? Meridian used to do a very good job of it. This may be only a comment against Central/Carlton, as Meridian is much better at it, but there seems to be very little regional programmes about the Midlands - we seem to get Wheel of Fortune instead.... It's the science of the soul...
Review of Fires - Nerina Pallot by steerpyke

Advantages: fresh and beautiful music
Disadvantages: none

...and makes a strong anti war statement with very simple language and in its use of words it is reminiscent of Joan Osborne's, If God Was One of Us. Musically it is an upbeat acoustic guitar driven infectious number that Sheryl herself would probably kill for. Halfway Home follows with a more Alanis Morrissette feel to it, heavy on the groove but more laidback This is also a song that you feel fellow antipodean, Ms Imbuglia is dying to be given, accessible to the pop market but with its integrity intact, serious messages in a light package is what seems to be going on her. Each song seems to invoke a range of female singers but there is still enough of her own ability shining through to make this singer songwriter more than just this years Tanita Tikarum. Damascus is the current single and like the track that follows Idaho, is an introverted... Read review

Harmonious
Review of Harmonium [ECD] - Vanessa Carlton by Soho_Black

Advantages: An improvement on her debut
Disadvantages: Not easy to find cheaply

...A few years ago, a quartet of female solo singer-songwriters all appeared out of American in the same time, with varying sounds and varying degrees of success. Norah Jones went on the win several Grammy Awards; Avril Lavigne got the attention of the popular press and subsequently married some bloke out of Sum 41 and Michelle Branch got to work with such big names as Sheryl Crow and Santana, also winning a Grammy Award. However they achieved their success, they all managed to release a second album not too long after their first and Lavigne and Jones have recently managed a third. The fourth member of this little group, Vanessa Carlton, didn’t fare so well. Apart from a supporting role on the Counting Crows’ version of “Big Yellow Taxi”, the film “Two Weeks Notice”, she seemed to have vanished. Indeed, it was only by chance browsing... Read review

fresh prince is fresh programming
Review of BBC2: Fresh Prince of Bel Air by Roberts

Advantages: see text

His life is turned unside down as his auntie & uncle are very rich and respected and Will has to fit in. He is always getting into trouble but always seems to get out of the trouble he got into. How to create a steam bath in your kitchen
Review of Carlton K2100 Kettles by EarthGirl

Advantages: jug kettle makes refilling easy
Disadvantages: dangerous

...I bought this kettle in a twin pack (Carlton Twin pack -model K5000) which contained a Carlton K2100 cordless jug kettle and a Carlton CT 2200 cool wall toaster. COST: If I remember correctly about £20 from Currys Features: The kettle has a filter and a capacity of 1.7 litres. The toaster features a 'cool wall' and 'electronic browning' (a knob you turn to determine how cooked your toast gets) and a crumb tray. Mine are both White but I don?t know if they come in other colours. Good Points: Cheap and easy to use, these are very basic products. The kettle has a large red light that switches on when the kettle has been turned on which is great when you are bleary eyed and unfocused first thing in the morning. Bad Points: The kettle comes with a very short power cord connecting the base unit to the plug. This means that the maximum... Read review
