Advice On Adopting Rescue Cats
Review of Member Advice on Keeping Cats by
BizzyBek
Advantages: Adopt an unwanted cat, loving, sense of achievement
Disadvantages: Many cats are nervous and may have been abused
...The great problem with this category is where do I start and worse still, will I ever finish?
For those who've not me before maybe a quick introduction is in order.
I am a member of the Cats Protection and am an active member of my local branch. As with all things it started off a few hours here and there. I helped my mother who was Vets Liaison Officer - the person who was in charge of bringing cats in for treatment.
Then we were short on vet runners, the volunteers who, usually at the drop of a hat, transport cats to and from vets. So we started doing that a couple of times now and then. Then a couple of times a week.
Then we were short of field workers, the volunteers who go out to catch the difficult cases, often feral cases. It involves cat traps and mud. Guess who started field work then?
And with all these cats...

Purina Go Cat for Indoor Cats. New.
Review of Purina Go-Cat for Indoor Cats by
Martinscholes
Advantages: It is a good product for indoor cats
Disadvantages: None
...Purina Go Cat for Indoor Cats. New. It said. Well, we have recently welcomed a new cat to our home, a pure white Chinchilla Persian, called Leo. He is called Leo because he roars, like a lion.
Leo is very much like our other cat, as he, too, is scared of birds and believes that the fact that "horrid things" can hover over his head is quite clearly "A Bad Thing."
A problem for indoor cats is that they do not have the opportunity to go out and nibble on inviting fresh greenery in the great outdoors. Prize plants, apparently toxic weeds, you know the sort of things I mean!
A very real and trying problem for indoor cats is that they can (especially if they are long haired as both of ours are) suffer very badly with hairballs. And whilst there might be something less pleasant than waking up to finding your bare foot on something...

Cool for Cats
Review of Looking atfer cats by
tattie123
Advantages: loving and affectionate
Disadvantages: dead things on the carpet
...Cats….
They are a bit like marmite…you either love them or hate them.
I was lucky when I was growing up. We lived in a really fantastic rural village, surrounded by open space and had a huge garden. My parents were great believers in us having pets so that we would grow up respecting animals and knowing how to look after them. This meant that as a chid I had cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, rats, hamsters and the obligatory gold fish. It was never a dull day in our house!
My first cat was exactly 3 weeks older than me and I loved her to bits. This love of animals is still with me today. I am now 35 (36 this weekend) and have 5 cats. 3 of them (Harvey, Billy and Daisy) came from the same litter and are now 4 years old. Chester is 5 and Tabitha nearly 13. They are all domestic shorthaired cats, effectively...

Keeping your Pussy (cat) in tip top shape.
Review of Member Advice on Keeping Your Cat Healthy by
soupdragon10
Advantages: Happy Pussy, Happy Owner
Disadvantages: None
...I have kept cats for over 30 years, have bred and shown pedigree cats, and currently have a brood of 9 rescue cats so have a fair amount of experience with our feline friends.
The first thing I would say is KNOW YOUR CAT. Cats should be bright eyed, glossy coated and have a cold wet nose. They should move easily, especially when young, and have a good appetite. They are so individual that what in one cat would be a clear sign of being 'off colour' would in another be perfectly normal behaviour. It is only when your cat starts behaving in a completely different way that alarm bells should begin to sound.
I have found that, on the whole cats are extremely healthy, as long as you follow a few simple rules.
1. FEEDING. Do not overfeed. A fat cat is an unhappy and unhealthy animal. Cats are carnivores, and are capable of surviving...

Give a Cat a Home
Review of Member Advice on Cats Protection Agency by
hellyphant
Advantages: giving a rescue cat another chance in life
Disadvantages: none
...however that you check your cat’s litter loo frequently and remove any presents that may have been left as often as possible.
* Litter (might be helpful here!!)
* Scratching post (Argos £5.99) This is essential if you don’t want your new cat tearing at your precious sofa or pulling up carpets. This particular scratching post is really quite attractive and I have to admit it looks quite good in the corner of my living room.
* Cat toys. Obviously this depends on how old your cat is. An elderly, grandmotherly type isn’t really going to be interested in chasing a ping pong ball up and down the hall way. Younger cats however, will really appreciate any toys that you may have. There isn’t any need to go out and spend money on cat toys. You can probably make most of them. Suggestions are……a scrunched up handful of foil, empty boxes, a piece...

Real Cats and Other Animals
Review of The Unadulterated Cat - Terry Pratchett, Grahame Joliffe by
helencbradshaw
Advantages: Highly Amusing for Cat Lovers Everywhere
Disadvantages: Quite pricy
...’s the best way to keep cats out of your garden, and he was under attack from five different ones at the time. He also poses the question as to where cats actually come from, and how can we get 500lb cats on one hand and 5lb cats on the other, and they be the same species, unlike dogs, who are fairly closely related in looks and appearance to their cousin wolves.
Apparently there are five ways to get a cat. There is the Post Office Window, a Posh Magazine, Buying a House in the Country (one will move in with you within a year), visiting the cat home after Xmas (there’s always a sale on) and Inheritance (to be avoided, or if you do inherit a cat, throw away the list of fads that the previous owner gives you) . I have to laugh at the buying a house in the country option, I inherited a cat this way in 1997, who I took to a cat home five miles away...
