Freedom For Cats With A Key
Review of Petmate Electromagnetic Cat Flap by
KathrynE
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op
...the "key"), fully closed, opening in or opening out. If I don't want them to go out (when I'm catching them for their annual trip to the vets!) I can lock it to keep them in. If they are out when I need to catch them I can set the cat flap to one way opening, when they come in they can't get back out again.
~~~ Fitting The Catflap ~~~
Now many people these days decided not to have a cat flap because they have nowhere suitable to fit it. You can put them through glass but if your door is double-glazed then you don't do the seals any good. My advice is find a handy wall. Yes you heard me correctly a wall. My flap goes through a wall at the back of my house. A builder did this for me and built a little wooden tunnel through the brickwork for my cats. The added bonus is that when it rains a cat can sit in the tunnel with their nose poking...
Kalven Pagoda range cat climber
Review of Kalven Cat Scratching Posts by
laramax
Advantages: Sturdy, well built and the cats love it - saves the furniture
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
..., very sturdy (and heavy) and each has poles is wrapped with sisal cord providing a great surface on which to exercise claws. They have a wide choice of designs some with beds (circular or oval), platforms or tunnels or a combination of all three and they come in a range of heights to suit your needs.
The unit is delivered dismantled with comprehensive instructions on how to put it together. The beds are all lined with vetbed which can easily be removed for washing or which you can replace when they become worn. The rest of the climber is covered with carpet which can be vacuumed clean - in four years the sisal hasn't needed replacing but that should not prove difficult should it be necessary to do so as the whole unit can be easily dismantled.
The one I bought stands about 5 foot tall and has three beds on it for the cats to settle...
intrusion by cats
Review of Staywell 500 Infra-Red Cat Flap by
toolbank
Advantages: stops other cats getting in???
Disadvantages: other cats can get in with force
...I had the old magnetic cat flap and this appeared to be ineffective from other cats, especially as1 of our got the style of cat flap.
The fitting of the infra red flap was a straight swap for the megnetic one, however I had to go out and buy some glue as I had to fit the optional tunnel which should have been fitted as standard.
Fitting the catflap took about 20 min, as we already had the hole from the other one.
The flap worked perfectly with both of our cats having no problems, however there does seem to be a very determined Tom cat that seems to force his way in and spends the night on our dining room chairs and has our cats supper, our 2 stupid cats never chase him off, He has even come in one day and sprayed over 1 of the cats beding, and boy did it stink to high heaven(why do people want un nautered toms???)this bedding we...
We tunneled through the mountain
Review of White Mountain Tunnel, Italy by
mumsymary
Advantages: Quick route to France from Italy or vica versa.
Disadvantages: Some people do not like going through tunnels , limited exits
...The tunnel under the white mountain,/Monte Bianca /Mont Blanc .
When you get to these mountains you can see why they are called the white mountains fantastic peaks white with snow. The picture is of the Italian enterence to the tunnel.
This year we drove all the way down through France to the Alps stayed a few days in a campsite in the Alps then journeyed on by road over the mountains to Italy. We did not go through the tunnel through Mont Blanc but went the long way round the mountain it took us all day.
After camping in the Aosta valley just the other side of Mont Blanc in Italy it was time to come home and we made a short cut through the tunnel.
Our experience through the tunnel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well first we had to queue about 15 minutes to get to the entrance of the tunnel a different day we had seen longer queues...

JERSEY WAR TUNNELS - YOU JUST HAVE TO GO THERE
Review of Jersey War Tunnels by
kismet
Advantages: learn about the German occupation of Jersey
Disadvantages: cold, eerie
...This was my second visit to the Jersey War Tunnels, the last being at least 10 years ago. (At that time they were known as the German Underground Hospital).
I could only vaguely remember them from that visit and my husband had never been there so off we went.
Jersey has a huge amount of World War 2 history, as the Channel Islands were occupied during the second world war as Winston Churchill refused to defend them. This meant that the Germans saw the islands as an ideal place to gain a victory over Britain and also as a stepping stone to invading England.
The entire tunnel complex was dug out of the rock by forced labour from Russia and other countries during the occupation of Jersey by the German Forces from 1940- 1945. There is over a kilometre of tunnels and they are now home to an amazing exhibition known as 'Captive...

Tunnel or Ferry - handy for both
Review of Holiday Inn Express Folkestone Channel Tunnel by
BristolBud
Advantages: proximity to cross-channel choices, new, good staff
Disadvantages: close to the motorway so some rooms could be noisy
...**Reasons for choosing this hotel:**
Holiday Inn Express is my cheapie hotel of choice at the moment and this was convenient for our ferry departure from Dover early on a Saturday morning. I know, I know it's right next to the Channel Tunnel but it is only about 15 minutes to the ferry terminal.
**Booking:**
I booked on the Holiday Inn Express website which was quick and easy with immediate email confirmation of the booking. The cost of the room was £49.00 including complimentary breakfast for a Friday night in early July which I thought was great value.
**Arrival:**
The hotel is signposted as you come off the motorway but it does feel like you've gone too far down the road and missed the turning - just keep going as this new hotel is at the end of the road, situated right next to the old Channel Tunnel Exhibition...

Tunnel; an elegant but sometimes bleak ride
Review of Tunnel Of Love - Bruce Springsteen by
ritagovindbhai
Advantages: Very human, full of stories, delicate sound
Disadvantages: A bit bleak
...October 9th 1987 saw the release of Springsteen's some would say, rather autobiographical 'Tunnel of Love" album. You can grab a copy of this for just over a fiver these days which isn't bad at all.
I purchased this album quite a few years after it's release, having got into Springsteen through listening to the famous 1984 release "Born in the USA" (BITUSA). Struck by the stories within the songs on BITUSA, I purchased Tunnel of Love on Vinyl, went home and read all of the song lyrics before letting the needle loose on the record.
What I heard was delicate, heartfelt, effortless, elegant, sometimes raw, sometimes bitter. It was all in all a huge detraction from what non-fans would have expected after BITUSA. For fans, a change in musical direction is always sort of expected from Bruce-y. So Tunnel was an all engrossing look...

Travelling through a tunnel under sea
Review of England to France - Channel Tunnel by
Modena
Advantages: Could be good value, frequent, simple to book and travel, comfortable, fast
Disadvantages: Price strategy, the unnecessary waits, the width for some vehicles, no scenery, nothing to do on the train
...This opinion is on the Le Shuttle service operating between Dover and Calais. There are two services that operate through the Channel Tunnel, the Eurostar and Le Shuttle. The Eurostar is a passenger service operating between London Waterloo and Paris or Brussels and Le Shuttle (it may be called Eurotunnel now, but it says Le Shuttle on the trains, so there!) is the service for passengers with cars.
I traveled on Le Shuttle on my way to Spa-Francorchamps and here is my opinion on what is probably the best way to get to France by car.
>>Destination
This service operates between Dover/Folkstone and Calais/Coquelles (sorry for any typos), basically it brings you a few miles inshore or both countries and these are the only options. The signs are clearly marked on the M20 and it’s not too far off the motorway. It also is not too...

"Tunnels " the book that digs its own hole.
Review of Tunnels - Brian Williams, Roderick Gordon by
Bagpipes1
Advantages: Makes good fire wood/ tinder now that fuel is more expensive
Disadvantages: A bag of caol probably costs less.
...Tunnels, well where to start? I was given this book by my brother for christmas and was looking forward to reading it. The first few chapters were good, if not an attempt to make the book longer than it need be. Things then began to deterioate dramatically. The plot became dry and not so much hard to follow but tiring to do so. Following the story then became even harder when I discoverd that, written on the blurb, it was claimed that "Some people even think it is better that 'Harry Potter," a statement it could have done without. I then grew very tired of this book, only reading it occasionaly when it was absolutely nessecary [i.e. in the airport.] Sadly I failed to finish reading the book Tunnels, however, if the first half is anything like the last half few will be able to reach it. That is not to say I am an incompetent reader: I...

The Tunnel, its kinda different?
Review of The Tunnel by
owen080808
Advantages: nice-ish club, makes a nice change
Disadvantages: music style, bit small
...This club apparently used to be one of the best dance music venus in glasgow, playing largely tunnel trance, and on entering the club i can see why, the sound and lights, location of the dj booth and low ceilings make it feel like it would be just right for some proper trance and house music.
however, once this initial impression of the club wears off you soon realise that what you can actually hear over the speakers is yes you've guessed it, more of that comercial american stuf they call hip hop and r'n'b. because, just like almost every other club in glasgow the tunnel has succumbed to the "play music that most girls like" mentality, the reasoning being that if lots of girls want to go there then the guys will follow simply because the club is know for being easy to pull, then once it gets busy it really doesnt matter what music...
