Llandaff Cathedral, Llandaff, Cardiff
Review of Llandaff Cathedral by
Serenfach
Advantages: A magnificent building full of history
Disadvantages: Steep hill
...The Eucharist is celebrated daily
The Cathedral does have a small shop, but refreshments are only available by prior arrangement, as are guided tours. (Contact: office@llandaffcathedral.org.uk). However, there is a small café in Llandaff village itself, only a few minutes walk from the Cathedral.
Car Parking in the area of the Cathedral Green is free and although unrestricted, is obviously busy during services, weddings and the like. There is also a free car park in Llandaff Village about a one minute walk away. There are frequent bus services to Llandaff, (route 25, 33, 33A & 62 from Cardiff Central Railway/Bus Station) which is only about 3 miles away.
I have visited the Cathedral many times over the years, sung there in choirs and rang the (old) bells, and always there is something new to find - this is a very large, magnificent...

Cardiff Thistle Hotel & Oval Brasserie
Review of Thistle Hotel, Cardiff by
Suziwann
Advantages: Central, Spacious, 4*
Disadvantages: Small Car Park Extra Charge!
...The Cardiff Thistle Hotel is called the Park Hotel, situated in Park Place central Cardiff, close to the Civic Centre and Cardiff New Theatre.
THE HOTEL
~~~~~~~~~
The four star rated hotel has had big money spent on restoration and offers comfort, quality and style with very high service standards and upto date facilities.
The hotel has 136-bedrooms with en suite facilities, including suites.
There is a choice of 3 bars~ Sports Bar, Victorian Pub and Lounge Bar.
This hotel is well equipped with large banquetting rooms for up to 300 covers.
They also cater for smaller functions.
There are 60 secure car parking spaces at an addition charge of 5GBP per night which is not very many considering the amount of residents and especially during the banquetting season.
There are lifts to all floors and 24 hour room and porter...
marriot hotel, cardiff
Review of Marriott Hotel, Cardiff by
big_t
Advantages: very good service, excellent location
Disadvantages: cost
...The Marriot Hotel , Cardiff.
Location: This hotel is 50m from the main strip of pubs and clubs in the throbbing centre of Cardiff. It is only 200m from the train station, and clearly visible from it. The location could not be better for a stay in the city.
Price: I paid 110 pounds for a normal double room, with 2 for breakfast, though checking the board in the hotel the 'rack rate' for that room is 165 pounds, so there stands a testament to booking on the internet!
Lobby: As you walk through the doors it is clear that this is a 'higher market' hotel. The huge floral display on the main table helped to give it away! It was both very light and cheery, with plenty of seating, both secluded and public.
Service: The check-in process was pleasant and painless, not a sensation always experienced in hotels! All questions were...
Cardiff Marriott Hotel
Review of Marriott Hotel, Cardiff by
llyffantcoch
Advantages: Ideal location
Disadvantages: Have to pay to use the hotel's car park
...I stayed at the Cardiff Marriott Hotelin December 2003 and I believe there are many advantages of staying here but that there are also disadvantages. I shall take you through the pro's and con's so that you get a clear picture for yourselves. The main advantage was that the Marriott is situated in an ideal location- it is only a few meters away fro a row of pubs and restaurants and around 10 minutes walking time from the main street in Cardiff. The Hotel itself is very impressive on the inside- everywhere is very clean and shiny! There is a bar there and a restaurant and a gym/spa. The gym is quite large and for each treadmill there is tv. The pool itself is also large and you get a clean towel each time you go into the gym or the pool. There are 2 lifts that take you up to the rooms and on each corridor in the hotel there is an ice...
I recently stayed the night at this hotel, I normally stay in travelodges because you always know what your getting but I thought id give myself a change and stay somewhere abit more fancier. The hotel although quite new is very traditional in style. To the back of the hotel is a very large lake with ducks and a nice wooden patio overlooking it with plenty of seating. This is just off from the bar area so im sure in the summer months it is very relaxing and peaceful to sit out there and have a drink, however I was unable to do so as it was February and cold! One half of the hotel overlooks the lake and the other overlooks the car park and the many shops...
GET CLASSY IN CARDIFF
Review of Marriott Hotel, Cardiff by
LostWitness
Advantages: See Review
Disadvantages: See Review
...Regular readers of my hotel opinions (I think there are 1 or 2 of you left) will know that on my regular trips around the country I suffer with terrible luck when it comes to selecting a hotel. Well, I am pleased to say that I think I have finally found a hotel that is actually rather good – the Marriott Hotel Cardiff. I visited the hotel a couple of years ago, but unfortunately at the time it was being refitted, so it was a bit of a battlefield. The refit has long since been completed, and this time I was able to enjoy the full range of services that the hotel had to offer.
Location
The Cardiff Marriott advertises itself as “Cardiff’s Premier Hotel” – a claim that I would wholeheartedly support. It is located in the heart of the city centre – literally staggering distance from the Café...
Commendably Cracking 'Commodation in Cardiff
Review of Jurys Cardiff Hotel, Cardiff by
LostWitness
Advantages: Excellent executive rooms, good food, good discounts
Disadvantages: No air conditioning, dodgy Internet access
...Stood on the corner of Mary Ann Street and Bute Terrace, the Jury's hotel in Cardiff is certainly not the most attractive of buildings. In fact, it's a red-brick monstrosity, and as I stepped out of my taxi, I had this feeling that I was in for a bad night. With steely resolve, I gripped my luggage and decided that it was too late to change my mind now - and boy am I glad I didn't.
Location, Location, Location
Sat directly opposite the Cardiff International Arena, the Jury's Inn is extremely well-positioned for most of the city's main attractions. The railway station is no more than a ten minute walk door to door. The main shopping centre is just a stone's throw. There are plenty of bars, pubs and clubs and it's also within real walking distance of the Millenium Stadium. As city centres go, I always find Cardiff very compact anyway...
For anyone that is new to Cardiff this hotel is the best around and one that I recommend. St David’s Hotel & Spa is a high class 5 star hotel that is set on the delightful new waterfront of Cardiff Bay and is already classed as one of Cardiff's striking landmarks. St David's Hotel had one of the very highest levels of service; they provide excellent comfort in their suites and superb leisure facilities and cuisine.
What a wonderful hotel
Review of Angel Hotel, Cardiff by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Luxury, spotlessly clean, wonderful food
Disadvantages: Full price would be too expensive for me!
...As a lot of you will know my partner, Dave, now has to travel quite a bit as part of his job and I occasionally go along with him to keep him company, especially if he is going somewhere nice!
Last week he had to travel to Cardiff and whilst looking for a suitable hotel I suddenly remembered that, as members of the Leisure Break Club, we would have the chance to take two nights for the price of one at The Angel Hotel owned by the Paramount Group. Leisure Break members always have the chance of this offer during January, February and March each year.
I found the brochure and discovered that two nights for the two of us at The Angel Hotel Cardiff, which is a four star hotel, would cost £102 for bed, breakfast and evening meal! That works out at just £25.50 per person per night, needless to say we booked it! By the way when we...
There's lovely!!
Review of Cardiff in general by
tartlette83
Advantages: Friendly, compact, lots to see and do
Disadvantages: Weather perhaps
...of the centre, then head to Cathedral Road, which has numerous hotels and B&Bs to chose from.
WILL THERE BE SHEEP AND WILL EVERYONE SPEAK A FUNNY LANGAUGE??
Ok, maybe I exaggerate! But I have heard all of the jokes about Welsh people! No there are no sheep lying around in Cardiff. Some people do speak Welsh, but if they do they will also speak English, and they will transfer easily between the two. The people of Cardiff and Wales in general are very friendly. Even on match day, when we play host to the old enemy across the Severn, people are generally happy to mix and chat with the other side.
WHY I LOVE CARDIFF:
Yes I'm Welsh and therefore biased, but I really do think that Cardiff is a lovely city. I live just outside and feel like I'm in the country, but it only takes 10 minutes in the car and i'm next to the Millenium...
