Tannoy takes centre stage.
Review of Tannoy Mercury mXc-M Centre Speaker by
g8ina
Advantages: Great price Vs performance, compact, good sound.
Disadvantages: Very minor "boxiness" in mid range.
...The centre speaker of a Home Cinema system is *probably* the single most important speaker of the whole bunch.
It is, of course, only one of the 6 speakers in a standard 5.1 Home Cinema (HC) system, but it carries the most vital bits of audio information - the centre stage sounds, which, most of the time, consists of film or TV dialogue. For this reason, it has to be a very high quality speaker, with a good flat mid frequency response.
Of all of my speakers, I probably like this one the least, which is really unfortunate, as the rest of the system is fabulous. Fortunately, the rest is *so* good, that I often miss the flaws in the centre speaker !
Having said that, I must point out that I am a bit of a perfectionist, so the "flaws" are really very minor - just a hint of boxiness in the vocal frequency range of 200Hz to 2500Hz...

Excellent centre speaker for home cinema
Review of Liberty Centre by
dobieg
Advantages: Sounds great, looks good as well
Disadvantages: 'Unobtrusive' it isn't !
...Home cinema is becoming increasingly popular, but do you buy a package, or 'roll your own'.
For me, it was a 'no brainer' I'd spent quite enough on a new amplifier and speakers for the hi-fi and wasn't prepared to lash out on another set of boxes just for the sake of it.
Besides, 'all in one solutions' anr notorious for cutting corners to keep the price down, and speakers have always been one of the first components to suffer.
Eltax only make speakers, so their reputation is on the line if they try to hard to cut costs.
Complementing my Eltax Liberty 5 speakers perfectly - this unit marked my transition to proper 'home cinema'
The single biggest difference between 'Stereo TV' and 'Home Cinema' is the centre speaker.
Home cinema extracts film dialogue and plays it through the middle speaker, leaving the outside...

iPod speakers
Review of Altec Lansing IM3 Ipod speakers by
xxnatashaxx
Advantages: Portable and lightweight
Disadvantages: You have to be very careful with them.
...as the instructions don't tell you and if you put it in the wrong way it gets stuck in there!
5) A major design fault is the fact that when the speakers are charged via the batteries or mains supply it constantly charges your iPod and there is no auto-turn off to stop it doing this! I have found the more that my iPod is charged the quicker it runs out of batteries so I find this very annoying and unhelpful.
Customer Service
I can fault the design of the speakers but I cannot fault the customer service team at Altec Lansing. Every time I have rang the company they have been very polite and helpful to somebody who is on their fourth set of speakers and I have not had to wait hours in a queue listening to music with the occasional "please hold". Another plus is the fact that the call centre is not based in India and so you a helped by an experienced...

Review of Pioneer SV-310-QL Home Cinema Speaker System by
iheartkids
Advantages: Good
Disadvantages: Not many
...I brought my set of tannoys 15 months ago and, at the time, they cost £300.Now,with a little searching around, they can be obtained for under £200.
What you get in the box is five satellite speakers(two front, two rear and a centre speaker) plus a seperate powered subwoofer.
You also get wall mounted supports for the two front and two rear speakers and all the speaker cables(i changed the cables to 79 stand q.e.d. speaker cable to improve the sound).
Setting up the system is relatively easy:you just need an electric drill for the the wall mounted stands and once fitted, you just connect the cables to your home cinema amp. Easy!!
Once you have connected everything,it is time to try out the system. My first reaction and i am sure yours will be the same was one of complete disbelief!!
The sound quality for such small speakers...

Do not watch a horror movie using these speakers
Review of Mission FS2 AV Speaker System by
thijsj
Advantages: small, excellent sound
Disadvantages: a matter of taste
...I am not an audio specialist, so I will just try to tell you in my own words the experience with this audio video speaker system set. If you want to know about the exact technical specifications, please visit the Mission website at http://www.mission.co.uk/index1.htm and click on product gallery, FS2 AV.
The system comprises a centre speaker, 4 satellite speakers (front left & right and surround left & right) and an active subwoofer. Mission managed to keep the speakers very small (HxWxD = 31x13x4.5cm!)given the fact that a new technology is used (NXT, see www.nxt.co.uk). With this technology you do not need cones of various sizes to reproduce sounds of various wavelengths. The speakers are actually made of a sandwich construction of 2mm foam core with woven glass fiber outer skin. The idea bhind NXT is that a speaker sound panel...

Videologic ZXR 550. Big Volume, Little Speakers
Review of Videologic ZXR-550 Speakers (5.1) by
reviewermarc
Advantages: Sound clarity, BASS!!, tweeter
Disadvantages: Inverse quality/volume
...About a year ago now, I got fed up with those appalling little speakers that attatch to the sides of the monitor that comes as standard with your pc.
However, i've about £65, and really cant afford Logitechs £250 speaker system with the latest what-not. SO, I found logitechs 5.1 surround setup.
If im being honest, bass was my number 1 priority (being a room shaking kind of guy when i listen to music...), and so when I found the sub included with this set packed in a quality 25Watts I was pretty chuffed considering the price at the time.
Boom, I ordered it, and eagerly awaited the arrival.
For those who want to know all the specs:
Each Speaker (2 Front, 2 Rear, 1 Centre) = 8Watts RMS
Sub = 25 Watts RMS
Upon arrival of the package ( a hefty 10kgs at that), I opened the box to a maze of different manuals, leads...

ET Sounds Great - Sony Pascal Speakers
Review of Sony Pascal Speakers by
simon.page
Advantages: Excellent value (£129), Lovely sound
Disadvantages: could scare you in the night
...OK.. So they may look like ET when lying on their side for centre use; and like an Ostrich egg if stood up on end for front or rear use, but the new Sony Pascal speakers really are a revolution in high quality sound.
Beautifully crafted from solid aluminum, they are heavy little buggers. They are also magnetically shielded to prevent them damaging the TV or suchlike.
I know its sad, but I really like my sound to be good, and these little eggs really let you believe that you are back in the movies. The sound is crystal clear and spine chillingly sharp, and the combined atmospheric effect they create lulls you into the movie completely.
They have a 120 watt max handling power that makes them ideal for main speakers, however they would really have to be complimented by a subwoofer to reproduce the lower frequencies and give a well...

What a set of speakers!
Review of Videologic ZXR-550 Speakers (5.1) by
CaptainBirdseye
Advantages: Great Quality, Great Price
Disadvantages: lead lengths
...At this cost I wasnt expecting this set of 5.1 speakers to be of particularly high qualtiy, I was however pleasantly surprised.
Videologic have created number of sets of speakers that have a great balance between quality and price, the ZXR-550 being just one of them.
I am currently using these speakers with my PC, replacing my old 2.1 speakers with this 5.1 set has made game playing a whole new experience, games such as Call Of Duty really come to life with surround sound and the ZXR-550's do the job perfectly. The sound quality is crisp and clear, and the sub pumps out plently of base. The volume controls, which may not be perfectly placed, are on the subwoofer, they provide an easy way of configuring the set-up as there is a seperate control for the centre, rear and sub channels as well as one master control - all very useful...
