Milan: City Break/ Photographic excursion
Review of Milan in general by
Mandi_mo
Advantages: Clean, safe, elegant, friendly
Disadvantages: None I can think of - perhaps lack of taxis
...My friend and I decided to head off to Milan for a city break as a pretty last minite decision after finding extremely cheap flights with Ryanair. We only had a few days to prepare so an 'itinerary' as such was out of the question.
Actually, our reason for making the trip was for my friend to carry out some 'research' for her urban environment project for her art degree course. And I'm a keen photographer, so hoped to get some good snaps.
So, all in all, our only agenda was to go there and soak up as much of the Milanese atmosphere as possible in a few days, and then hopefully transfer that experience to a roll of black and white film!
So, how did Milan present itself to us? Well, I must say that for me it was one of the few European cities that totally lived up to it's perceived external image. There is glamour round...

Milan - mixed feelings
Review of Milan in general by
dogscoff
Advantages: Shopping, nightlife, public transport.
Disadvantages: Expense, driving, pollution.
...I spent 3 months living as a student in Milan and, to be honest, I didn't like it. I found it dirty, ugly, unfriendly and oppressive, and expensive to boot. This did at least give me the motivation to seek out the best places to drown my sorrows, and I will be sharing some of that knowledge later. I've since returned though, and have learned to appreciate some of the good things this sprawling city has to offer.
Milan is an industrial city in the North of Italy, easily accessible by Malpensa Airport and then a short bus ride. It is also well connected to the rest of Italy and the countries to the north by train, and so however you arrive you will probably wind up at the stazione centrale. It's worth looking at this building, which is an incredible example of the fascist/futurist architecture favoured by Mussolini. Keep a tight hold...

Milan is a great city
Review of Milan in general by
traveller55
Advantages: easy to visit
Disadvantages: busy and chaotic during weekdays
...Milan is well known around the world as a business city but if you walk around you can find a lot of interesting places for sightseeing.
First of all the well know place:
DUOMO is the main curch in Milan located in a large square. Is a gothic style construction with a lot of pinnacle on its roof. On the topo of the highest pinnacle stand a gold plated statue of Maria, the Jesus Christi mother, that the ’’milanesi’’ call ’’Madonnina’’ and has been elected protector of the city.
Inside the curch you can see a lot of old paints as well as the treasure consisting in gold tumblers and crosses.
This curch was built in 200 years using granite blocks coming from caves located near the Maggiore lake.
The blocks arrived in Milan by special boats using the water channels (called Navigli) designed by Leonardo da Vinci.

HERE IS... MY MILAN
Review of Milan in general by
tiz-taz
Advantages: Beatiful town
Disadvantages: Nothing... I hope!!! ^___^
...Hi! I’m Tizi and I live in Milan.
Yes, I’m Italian girl and I would like to speak about my Milan... so I can help you to know better this town, so beautiful and so difficult.
Maybe you arrive in Italy by airport… or Linate, or Malpensa…
If you arrive from Linate you buy a map at newspaper kiosk, and take a taxi only to arrive at Milan city, because it’s too much expensive.
If you arrive from Malpensa there a little train and with this one you arrive in Milano only with approximately 4.5 £.
So in Milan there’s a very good service by bus, tram (particular bus on rails)
To see the most beautiful places, you can buy a ticket to go to every public transport. In fact with 2.20 euro (about 1 pound and 30 pence) you have a ticket for all day long. Instead with simple ticket you can use...

Milan and the Lakes
Review of Milan in general by
MarkLV
Advantages: Vibrant, cosmopolitan city and stunningly beautiful lakes
Disadvantages: Pricey, dirty and plagued by annoying gypsies
...I went to Milan in early May with my partner. I still don’t really know why I went there, but I suppose I was attracted by the allure of the big city as well as the proximity of the beautiful lakes of northern Italy. I stayed for 7 nights and paid £450 in total for the flight, hotel and transfers to and from the airport. Another £300 or so was spent during the holiday on travel, eating out and entertainment.
There is a lot to say, so I have subdivided my comments into suitable headings:
HOTEL:
The hotel, called “Delle Nazioni”, was situated within walking distance of the railway station; this was infact one of the reasons why I chose it. Despite being rated three stars, it was a big disappointment; it would have rated no more than two stars in the UK. The room was very small and, although facing the inner courtyard...

Hotel Adam - Milan can be cheap!
Review of Hotel Adam, Milan by
sarahl2002
Advantages: A Bed, Good staff, Read on ........
Disadvantages: Food & Drink
...Well, when I visited Milan in February, we booked to stay in Hotel Adam about 4 weeks before we went.
We got an offer on the accomodation and paid only £97 for 2 people for 3 nights which I thought was fantastic as this is a 4* hotel.
There weren't many pictures of the hotel and I couldn't find a lot of information on it, we didn't know what to expect - but not a lot for that cost!
The address of the Hotel is
Via Palmanova 153
Milan, 20132
Italy
The hotel is 6km from the city centre and 4km from Linate airport, we flew to Bergamo airport and it's not that much of a hassle getting from there either.
To get to this hotel all you need to do is get onto the metro on the green line and get off at the stop named Crescenzago.
From thios metro stop you can see the Hotel. All you have to do is to follow the walkway under...

Milan - February 2004
Review of Milan in general by
sarahl2002
Advantages: Good shops, architecture and food!
Disadvantages: Cost and language.
...I only just came back from a couple of days in Milan so thought now was the best time to write with the memories fresh in my head. I had a really good time and would recommend it!
I went with my boyfriend from Saturday night until lunchtime Tuesday. So really we only got 2 full days. I would say 4 full days at most is all I could manage.
Not that it wasn't good, just there is only so much you can do and see.
Lets start with what is said to be Milan's most popular attraction - The Duomo.
In all guide books, brochures and word of mouth opinions we had heard we were told that this is the biggest attraction in Milan and a must see.
We decided to go on the first day as we arrived there in case it was hard to find - how daft were we.
There is a metro stop at Duomo and as you surface from the underground the massive cathedral...

Milan "No Ashtray" Malpensa
Review of Milan - Malpensa (MXP) by
gt5952
Advantages: Clean, Loads of restaurants, comfy seats
Disadvantages: No where to smoke
...Imagine being tired, yet handcuffed to a running machine thats on full pelt, welcome to Milan Malpensa.
The Airport that doesn\'t accommodate the needs of the smoker, (And the staff almost start laughing when you ask where the smoking area is!) brings to you the largest Duty free shop Ive ever seen in the EU, quite a few restaurants and cafe\'s and several bathrooms (Where the occasional smoker hangs out waiting to be handcuffed and pinned to the floor by the Italian Police)
The airport is connected to Milan by the Milano-Varese motorway as well by a dedicated train called \"Malpensa Express\". It is also connected to Linate Airport by a scheduled bus service. The Milan airport system has a third international airport, Orio al Serio Airport, which serves low-cost and charter traffic.
Malpensa handled over 21.7 million passengers...

Milan, the city I love
Review of Milan in general by
silvia1958
Advantages: I love my city
Disadvantages: traffic, climate (too hot and wet in summer)
...I'm an Italian woman, my name is Silvia, I'm 44, and I live in a little town not far from Milan.
But I was born in Milan.
Many people think Milan is good only for work, fashion and food., but it is really more than these.
In Rome or Florence is easier to see historic buldings. In Milan you have to search for them.
There are the Castle, where Leonardo da Vinci lived and worked in XV century, the very beautiful Cathedral, with his treasures, but there are a lot of little monuments, churches and historic houses. There are very difficult to find without a guide or someone who knows the city very well.
If you want to visit Milan rimember this places!
Sant'Ambrogio, one of the most ancient cathedrals of the city, named like the patron saint of my city.
La Scala, one of the most important opera theatres in the world (now it is closed...

milan good to visit but not to live there.
Review of Milan in general by
christina44
Advantages: plenty to do and see
Disadvantages: crowded polluted noisy dirty
...In 1984 I decided to see a bit of italy and get a job nannying out there. I ended up working for a lovely milanese family with 4 children, ranging from 4 mths,to 9yrs. who lived in a street called Via Lazorrotti.By summer we visited the mother of my boss-the countess of naples,no less, for the obligatory 6 week summer holidays!(That was fascinating, and would take another op just to describe her extensive villa, dungeon jewels/artefacts and her lovely ordinary friendly nature.)
If you have ever been to Milan, then you would know how busy, lively, crowded and noisy it is.I find it similar to London,smog-wise,and in summer the temperatures soar into the hundreds, and it is very, very humid.(not my favourite summer time place!)
I used to soak myself in the little half tubs they use out there at least three times a day because of perspiration...
