Abit VT6X4 and its Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset
Review of Abit Pentium III VT6X4 by
AmK
Advantages: 133MHz FSB support, 1/2 AGP divider, stable, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Performance not up to overclocked BX solution
...I would like to share my experiences of the Abit VT6X4 slot 1 motherboard and its VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset.
In the past I have always used boards with an Intel chipset in my own machines. As my PC is important for work and study as well as for play, stability has always been an influencing factor. With the VT6X4, Abit have implemented stability in the VIA chipset.
The CPU I am using is a Slot 1 Intel Pentium 3 733MHz (133MHz FSB) chip, which I picked up second hand very inexpensively as an upgrade to my Celeron 366 (overclocked to 550). The P3 is a fast and stable chip - it runs pretty cool for a 733MHz CPU.
The VIA chipset is not the fastest solution available; those who lust for those extra frames per second in Quake 3 should consider an overclocked Intel BX chipset solution - the BX chipset doesn't support a 1/2 AGP...

A Via K8T800 chipset, with Abit's hi-tech around
Review of ABIT KV8-MAX3 - motherboard - ATX - K8T800 by
r-y-u
Advantages: Performance, nice cooling system, double RAID
Disadvantages: Low quality chipset fan
...Abit's MAX series keeps going on with this excellent piece of technology. Although it's not the latest technology out there right now, it is fairly fast, and one of the best socket 754 motherboards you can get.
MAX 3 comes equipped with tons of onboard features, such as the 3 Com Gigabit Ethernet, one on chip Via RAID controller (2xSATA), and another one onboard Silicon Image (4xSATA), allowing you to connect on your computer up to 10 (!!!) Hard Drives and CD/DVD drives. Its AGP guarantees to satisfy any gamer who inserts to it the most powerful AGPx4/x8 video card of his choice.
Its high quality 5.1 sound card has to offer crystal clear surround sound, powered by Realtek. And for the hardcore sound fanatics, this board is equiped with Optical In and Optical Out jacks at the back. Can't get any better!
Abit's OTES thermal solution...

Sleek and sexy, oh, oh, baby
Review of ASUS VIA KT266A Chipset A7V266-E - motherboard - ATX - KT266A by
tigertom
Advantages: 266 FSB, 4 IDE's, RAID, XP Athlons
Disadvantages: Wont make beer.
...cares about!
Audio Output: None (This is good, Onboard Sound is normally crap and painful to disable, not having it in the first place forces you to buy a sound card. More expensive, but worth it)
Video Output: None. GOOD for the same reasons above, except we are now talking about a graphics card.
Chipset Type VIA Apollo KT266A (I know the 266 means the bus speed can emulate 266Mhz the rest may mean something to someone, not me though)
Compatible Processors: (This bit is almost joyous to write) “Athlon XP” AND “Duron”. Which in boring computer lands means: The motherboard works with all “Athlon” chips (if it says Athlon it will work) it works with the new XP chips (Nought to do with windows) and it’s backwards compatible for the Duron chips (which are cheaper versions of the Athlons). What...

Traveling Via Vias
Review of Vias Plage by
zoe_page
Advantages: Lovely beach....the south of France, dahling
Disadvantages: Not much to do without a car
...If you want to bemuse a foreigner, send them to the bit of France from which I've just returned. Not satisfied with the usual 'one name per place' rule, you'll find references to the areas of Vias, Vias Plage and Vias sur Mer (on post cards, in brochures, on the internet) but, confusingly, only 2 different parts of town, the touristy end and the old French bit.
****** Travel
We drove Manchester to Liverpool, flew Liverpool to Nimes, taxied to Nimes town centre, caught a train to Agde and then taxied to Vias Plage. Travelling days were long - in excess of 8 hours - but if you live in other parts of the UK, or are happy to pay a little more for your flights you can reduce the trip quite significantly by flying to Montpellier and then grabbing a cab from there. We chose the fun long way round instead, and paid £100 each...

Do you have a VIA based motherboard
Review of viahardware.com by
cjkace
Advantages: Helps you to solve problems, latest reviews and news
Disadvantages: Biased towards VIA products, obviously
...If you do own a motherboard based on a Via chipset, then this is the number one website for information, latest news and reviews of all the latest products.
If you don't know anything about the company, here's a little detail. They are based in Taiwan and are the number one producer of motherboard chipsets, both for Intel and AMD processors. In fact when AMD first launched the Athlon and Duron processors, VIA were the only manufacturer to produce a chipset in sufficient numbers for the chips to be the success they have. Recently VIA have also acquired the Cyrix line of processors and the S3 graphics company, so they now produce the three major components for a PC. Motherboard, processor and graphics chips.
ViaHardware was set up as an information repository for all things VIA and has been doing an excellent job, frequently listing...

Have a great time at via fossa-Bar Via
Review of Via Fossa by
lisablue31
Advantages: relaxing, great food and lots of draught beers on tap
Disadvantages: can get quite busy
...Via fossa is found at 28-30 Canal Street, Manchester in the heart of the gay village, although it as now been renamed via bar.Set on a uniquely continental street in the centre of Manchester amidst other bars. There are tables outside on the street where you can sit and relax over a quality drink with friends. Inside there is a bar and restaurant area. Food can be enjoyed anywhere in the pub, chosen from the bar menu with a restaurant menu reserved for that area. Business people come for their lunchtime break and also in the early evening before returning home. At night time it changes into a young persons venue with a clubby atmosphere. It holds a late license every night and are very popular for the variety of entertainment on offer every evening. If you are looking for a lively night out in the middle of town, then look...

Get Shopping on Via del Corso.
Review of Via del Corso by
Ottavia
Advantages: Plenty of variety, not all designer, lots of affordable places, food and cinema.
Disadvantages: You might fall in love with designer clothes in the windows!
....
Via del Corso runs from Piazza Venetia, below the Il Vittoriano monument in the center of Rome, all the way up to Piazza del Popolo in the north of the city. It's one of the biggest streets for shopping in Rome and is frequented by tourists and locals, looking for a variety of goods. There are no sites that would be of interest to a tourist on Via del Corso, but there are so many very nearby such as the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and Forum Romanum. So if you're doing a lot of walking around the city, then you're bound to find yourself on this street at some point. It's certainly well worth a visit as it's an interesting street with a good variety of shops and a good atmosphere.
We can date the history of this road back to the time of the Roman Empire, when it was known as Via Flaminia and was known to take...

Via Michelin for the Palm PDA
Review of ViaMichelin GPS Navigation Pack by
sianciao
Advantages: Value for Money, quality of Maps and amount of POIs
Disadvantages: Some locations aren't available, can be unreliable
...Via Michelin Navigation Package for the Palm PDA
How I Came to Own this Product
I was going away to university after my summer break and I planned on taking my car with me, for the first time ever. Being a not very confident driver I was planning on writing and rewriting the directions. With my birthday coming up I was constantly being bothered with the one question that I dread; "what would you like?" This particular year I was completely out of ideas, I had a tv that worked fine, my hifi was still hanging on, my car stereo had just been fixed, there was no beauty products that I wanted and I had more clothes than I knew what to do with. It was my mum who suggested to me getting a Palm PDA. "But what would I do with it?" she pondered the question for a while before picking hers up and showing me; "it...

VIA TV - AKA CON ARTISTS
Review of via-tv.co.uk by
viatvstinks
Advantages: None at all - promises of offers too good to be true!
Disadvantages: No stock, No delivery, No communication - THE COMPANY!
...I would definately NOT recommend this company to ANYBODY!
Products seem cheap to buy and very good offers but they are absolutely rubbish with communication (they send group emails out instead of personal ones).
I have never found a more USELESS company than VIA TV. I ordered over 7 weeks ago and still not received my goods. I was told it wasn't in stock before ordering but have had a few emails since saying they would be with me shortly. I have had 4 different dates now and still nothing at my door! I have had no replies to my emails. I wish I had read these before I wasted my money on VIA TV - I would have stayed clear!!!
I paid for next day delivery which I am going to try get my money back on this as it was a waste of money - I have now been told they were in stock on Monday and should really have been here on Tuesday! But I...

For a good night visit via fossa
Review of Via Fossa by
sunflower
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...For a good night out visit Via Fossa on Canal Street in Manchester. There are tables outside for when the weather permits and inside there are different levels and a dance floor DJ and lots of nooks and crannies to hide away in and enjoy the evening!!
One thing to watch out for though are the low flying speakers *g*. A friend did manage to walk into one of them ... he was under the influence of alcohol at the time but it is something to be aware of.
People are friendly and loo's are clean which is a big plus in a busy place in town!!There was still toilet roll left at the end of the night, a real bonus.
It's worth paying it a visit and I am sure that once seen you will want to go again!! It is open until 2am so you can party half the night away in one spot at least *s*...
