...for the music he’s playing, and this comes across in his presenting. To quote nick: “Nothing can beat hearing a whole piece of music, as the composer intended, from beginning to end. It makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck to experience the build up of tension or emotion in a stormy symphony, or ebb and flow of an entire choral piece. It's unique [and] it's brilliant." This show also occasionally brings you live concerts from around the country – one example would be the debut performance by Einaudi (who writes and performs modern and magical piano music) of some of his latest works. Advantages: Very entertaining, and superbly engineered
Disadvantages: Some of the electronic effects are a little cheesy

Most of these sounds were very new in 1972, so it is little wonder that the album is considered a cult classic among fans of easy listening music these days. Advantages: Classical music of the highest order providing 'Where have I heard this before?' entertainment.
Disadvantages: A pathetic excuse to release classical genius, along with poor album art and information.

.... The Tracks - Wagner… Before purchasing this compilation, I had a limited knowledge of classical music. Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries', for instance, was not a piece I could picture in my head. When listening for the first time, there was also the worry it would be some cheap imitation that justified its £1.72 price tag. However, Wagner's piece became immediately recognisable and set the tone for the rest of the album. Any film lover may recognise it from 'Apocalypse Now', 'Fantasia' or even 'Casper'. And it is because the listener recognises the music that makes this album such a worthwhile purchase. You do not have to enjoy classical music to gain pleasure from this compilation. Modern Music 1900 Onwards This is the longest part of the book at 120 pages. The twentieth century saw much crossing over between musical styles. Jazz, folk and musical theatre all influenced (and were influenced by) classical composers. Technology allowed more innovation. For example, Stockhausen wrote a piece intended to be performed airborne in 4 helicopters! I cannot imagine how that would work. In this section of the book we also meet Philip Glass, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten and many more. To me modern classical music often seems a mystery. Sometimes discordant and tuneless; sometimes a throwback to a more traditional style. This section of the book was particularly helpful... Read review

Advantages: Jam packed, well presented, great inclusions.

...Now I was quite surprised to get this in my stocking for Christmas, obviously somneone had been doing their homework. I've got pretty eclectic tastes, ranging from indie, 80's, and rock, to dance and trance, so it was quite a nice surprise as I'd had my eye on this for a while. Released in mid-October 2005, the Ultimate Experience boasts a jam-packed tracklist of some stonking tunes, as well as some which are yet to reach the UK Charts. Featuring some key names in current dance music, their are some really cool inclusions on both discs. I tend to find that on releases such as this, the 2nd CD is usually packed full of obscure trance remixes from the likes that no-one has ever heard of, but this has been tastefully presented. ...this detracts from the retro experience. Can it be used for only classic games? Again this is No, some of the Wii games coming out can be played using the Classic Controller; look on the game for details. What about injuries? Personally I have not suffered any strains or sprains whilst using the Classic Controller. If anyone is really worried then maybe they should contact their doctor before playing. In general playing “Retro” games involves a lot less effort than the new Wii games. It is also worth noting that because the Classic Controller relies upon the battery power coming from the Wii remote; it will mean that the life of the batteries in the Wii remote will be reduced. All in all this is another wonderful addition to all things Wii that has come from Nintendo. We bought ours for around £15.... Read review

...Plays on 101.1 FM This radio station provides a good service to me- it plays the classical music that was missing from the radio for so long. Previously you had to listen to radio 3...not my favourite station because it assumed that you KNEW everything about the classics and if you didn't then you must be pretty deprived or dumb. Classic FM has opened up the world of classical music to everyone, and that's one of the real advantages it has for me. Henry Kelly make
