...No visit to Rome is completed without seeing the Colosseum, a symbol of both the modern and ancient Rome. It was build for horse racing circuit and gladiatorial battles, one of the most important entertainments in the Roman Empire. Each door to the Colosseum has a roman numeral carved on it and people from different communities of the society were assigned different numbers. There is also an entrance with no numeral which was only used by the Emperor. According to our tour guide, with the system of seating, they managed to have all spectators at their seat within half an hour-how amazing is that-even in modern days, it takes longer to have all audience seated in a short period of time. As for those Bruce Lee fans, just want to make you aware that the Colosseum is also the place where the last fighting scene of one of his movies... Read review

...The immensity of these historical remains took my breath away before I had even begun to learn about the depth and horror of its history. Those of you who have seen Gladiator or studied Ancient Rome in history lessons may be aware of the basic features and uses of the Colosseum in its days of glory but the amount of information given during the tour intrigued and enlightened me to the full extent of its history. Getting to the Colosseum could not be easier. It is situated in the centre of Rome quite literally with main roads running meters away from its ancient structure. The Metro station is situated within meters of the entrance with a zebra crossing leading across the road to the cobbled pathway that ran around the Colosseum. However if you do chose to take the metro be careful when traveling to keep any belongings in front of you... Read review

...THE COLOSSEUM WOW! Has to be my first sentiment when I entered this vast and beautiful structure that the Italians have tried so hard to preserve!! (and rightly so.) I felt a little pang of history as I walked under the archways and into the main arena. A lot of the main floor is gone now so you can look down and see the labyrinths where the slaves and beasts were kept until the next show began. It was a surreal experience that I rate 5/5 and would recommend to anyone. WHERE? The Colosseum is in Rome, Italy and very easy to get to. All taxi drivers know how to get there although don't expect that to be cheap. Especially if you have a pram as they charge extra in Italy for any luggage. There is a metro stop and bus stop right outside of the Colosseum and you can get an all day ticket for the metro to go anywhere in Rome for only 4... Read review

...If you've seen the film gladiator you will have marvelled at Ridley Scott's colosseum but this pales into insignificance when you see the real thing. Although this ancient arena has understandably suffered over the past 2000 years its glory is still apparent. As you see it impose itself on the skyline of Rome you are drawn towards it and as you walk up through the corridors which were once home to a mass of thousands of bloodthirsty plebs you can sense that something fantastic awaits you. The expectations are easily met as you come into the great theatre itself and look out across the vast stands and see the caverns below the stage which has since crumbled away. You can picture the cheering masses all around or the dark intimidating corridors where gladiators and animals alike lurked waiting to be sent out into the killing field... Read review

...Why have you not seen this film?! The historical aspects are perhaps a little questionable, but that is the only flaw in a masterpiece. From sword fights to chariots to grand battles the action keeps on coming, but with sufficient plot intertwined to entertain all. The story unfolds a little slowly at first as much of the groundwork of the plot is laid, but once this film gets going it simply never looks back. The special effects team didn't get a holiday either - the scenes featuring the colosseum and other Roman grandeur are hugely impressive. A highly polished film that will appeal to many.... ...The romans are indeed returning to the silver screen with the release of Gladiators. Well storyline depicting the lives of the Gladiators. Russell did a good job with his character.The saddest part is when his family was killed by the Romans. The movie showed that they are vicious human beings. No wonder the Romans empire didnt last forever. The colosseum was impressive. I heard it was generated using computer. This is one of the best movies i ever watched so far. Really keeps you on your chair until the end! The most interesting part in the movie is when both of them were fighting in the Colloseum with the lions behind these Gladiators. Really cool fight scenes.... Read review
