COTTAGE PIE. BON APPETIT
Review of Savoury Cottage Pie by
donovan74
Advantages: HEALTHY. TASTY AND DELICIOUS.
Disadvantages: FRIENDS WANTING YOU TO COOK FOR THEM.
...Firstly I just want to point out that I have a great passion for cooking, somewhat a top hobby at the moment, and I also enjoy eating very much too (not to much though lol).
Last week I was cooking for my mother and decided to cook a tasty good old fasioned, down to earth home made Cottage pie. Keeping up with the times I'm very much into healthy eating, so my Cottage pie is full of fresh ingredients including Organic Beef and Olive oil.
My recipe below works and you'll be only to pleased to have followed it, that I promise!.
(Remember if you're a vegetarian just add meat substitute)
INGREDIENTS:
400-500g of lean Organic mince Beef
2 - 3 tablespoons of Olive oil
4 - large Potatoes
1 - whole Garlic bulb (yes the whole bulb)
1 - large Onion
2 - medium sized Carrots
1 - large Parsnip
2 - tablespoons of Bisto
2...

COTTAGE PIE FOR HIM THAT MUST BE OBEYED
Review of Tesco Vegetarian Cottage Pie by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: Great meal for instant success
Disadvantages: Not always available.
...As many readers will be aware, I live away from you all in the wilds of France, and sometimes it can be very hard to find suitable vegetarian food for my husband who is a strict vegetarian, to the extent that I cannot cook my own meat based food in the same pots as his cooking is done.
This can be wearisome and sometimes, I really want to find a dish that I can serve up to him quickly and easily.
Our little shop down the road run by English people has really done the trick and last week they brought over a load of Tescos and Marks and Spencers ready to cook vegetarian meals.
I thought "great !". At last someone is recognising the difficulty of being a vegetarian in a country where basically the food is meat based !!
I looked in the freezer compartment and I saw this cottage pie and thought wonderful. I can just put...

Sainsburys cottage pie.
Review of Sainsbury's Cottage Pie by
Alison3
Advantages: quick and easy
Disadvantages: not sure about the nutritional value
...I'm not too sure how I am going to be able to find 120 words to describe Sainsburys cottage pie, specailly being failry new to this but I can only have a go.
I buy a range of Sainsburys ready meals for my daughter to take to work. That way i know she will at least be eating something a bit better than sweets all day. She does not have a very adventurous appetite, or even much of an appetite at all.
These meals come in a varied range of menus, from cottage pie to fishermands pie. to tomato and cheese spagetti, all of which I know Amy will eat. The boxes are brightly coloured, costing 99p for each meal of 300 grams, and can be home frozen. They take 5 and half minutes to microwave, which in Amy's case is a godsend as she only gets half an hour for lunch, or 25 minutes to oven cook. This meal is compact and once heated can...

vegetarian cottage pie, yummy!
Review of Tesco Vegetarian Cottage Pie by
jaomi8
Advantages: tastes great and fills you up
Disadvantages: none
...ive been a vegetarian for a little while now, and at times its proven difficult to find a satisfying, tastey ready meal thats also vegetarian, but tesco have done brillantly with this cottage pie which i discovered before i became a vegetarian.
i now buy these quite often, as they store well in the freezer.
its really easy to prepare, i just throw it in the combination microwave oven and it comes out great in no time at all. the packaging makes it very convenient as it needs minimal preparation before you cook it. it is great for me personally as my health condition makes it difficult to cook or prepare meals.
the potato layer on top is always smooth and creamy tasting, never dry, and the 'meaty' layer is moist and tastes fantastic, with the vegatables (carrots and celery) staying quite crisp. the main body of this layer...

A finger in too many pies!?!
Review of Savoury Cottage Pie by
kerryzach
Advantages: new ideas
Disadvantages: contain meat!
...I HAVE JUST REALISED THIS REVIEW IS MY 100th! AND I HAD SUCH PLANS! NEVER MIND! ILL WAIT TIL MY 125th NOW!!
I am not sure how I came across this category and I am not sure why it is a paid review but I saw the pound sign and thought I would have a shot at it!
I have just added this paragraph following a comment I received. This review is to tell you not to buy shop bought Cottage pies! They are so easy to make fresh, even a day before you want to eat them. I usually enjoy them better warmed up the next day!
Shop bought Cottage PIes tend to have a small amount of gritty mince in a thick gravy. The toppin gis usually very salty and the true potatoe taste has been lost in the process somewhere along the line!. You would probably pay more than necessary for the Pie too. A whole family can be fed a fresh pie for less than three...

Cottaging down at Somerfield
Review of Somerfield Cottage Pie by
couscous
Advantages: Quick to cook, Can be cooked from frozen
Disadvantages: salty, expensive, lots of potato
...Cottage Pie or Shepherds Pie – personally I have no idea what the difference is. I thought Shepherds Pie was made with beef and had mashed potato and that Cottage Pie was made with lamb and had sliced potatoes. Anyway I am digressing but when I say Cottage Pie I mean the sort that I am reviewing with beef and mashed potato. I don’t want to confuse anyone. God I am confused myself now nearly. On with review I feel.
Cottage Pie is one of my favourite meals, it’s cheap, filling, can be spiced up with vegetables and garlic and cooks in one pot so zero washing up. However since Stephen and I split up I can’t face the prospect of cooking this delicious meal just for me after all I am only going to have to freeze it all so opted for a ready made one.
This Cottage Pie came from Somerfield, which is not my usual shop, but I had...

Chicken - in a cottage pie? Whatever next?
Review of Tesco Finest Roast Chicken Pie by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Looks and tastes great. Easy to prepare. Not expensive.
Disadvantages: None
...and then the whole thing is covered by an outer cardboard sleeve. This is great for me as I try and recycle as much as possible and as we can recycle both plastic and cardboard nothing will be thrown in the dustbin!
The cardboard sleeve has the Tesco Finest logo on the top left and the main colours are grey and black apart from the colour picture of the roast chicken pie which stands out against the plainer background making the whole thing look classy and inviting. There is also a hole in the outer sleeve through which you can see the actual pie in its plastic container. Looking at the pie it looks exactly like a cottage pie or shepherds pie.
As I mentioned earlier one of the most important things about this product and others in the same range as far as I am concerned is the promise that it contains 'no artificial preservatives, flavours...

Prepare one cottage .....
Review of Tesco Healthy Eating Cottage Pie by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Tastes good, easy to cook, reasonable cost
Disadvantages: Takes 50 minutes to cook
...The other day I received my Tesco vouchers for this quarter, I also received my mom’s vouchers and Dave’s mom’s vouchers too as they can’t be bothered messing with them, so I do OK out of it really! Mind you I do help with their shopping so it works out fair in the end.
One of the vouchers was for 50p off an amount of £2.50 or more spent on ready meals either chilled or frozen. As I was going into Tesco’s this morning I thought I’d see if there was anything that I could get for lunch. I was feeling a bit lethargic today so ready meals sounded like a damn fine idea to me, especially as I had got my 50p off!
I looked in the chiller cabinet and couldn’t find anything that I fancied so I headed for the freezers to check out the frozen meals.
It was there that I found Tesco’s Healthy Eating Cottage Pies priced at £1.29 each. I worked...

Cottage cheese and voodoo
Review of Sainsbury's Cottage Cheese, Natural by
Bryn_Pearson
Advantages: quite versatile, great texture.
Disadvantages: bit pricey, may be used for voodoo!
...the moisture makes the bread go soggy! great with freshly toasted wholemeal bread. Fantastic with ploughman's lunches.
You can also cook with cottage cheese - add it to pies for a filling - anywhere you might use cheese you can substitute it in, except on the tops of pizzas. It's really good with tuna in baked potatoes - to some extent you can use it as a mayonaise sustitute as well.
I really like this product. it's a touch on the expensive side, so I only tend to buy it when it's reduced to clear (it keeps well though, I learn from this.)It is really nice, and I strongly recomend it. Just one little gripe - it comes in those horrid little plastic pots that are too light for re-use and cannot be recycled....

GUILT FREE PIIEEE!
Review of Quorn Cottage Pie by
karalouk
Advantages: Meat free, healthy
Disadvantages: None!
...This is the perfect meal for anybody who is vegetarian or likes to eat healthy..or both!
Being a vegetarian for 6 years now I\'ve tried virtually all of the Quorn range and this is one of my favourite products by far. I\'ve also tasted many other brands of vegetarian cottage pie and they just don\'t compare (gristly and too soft/mushy potato).
Quorn cottage pie comes in 2 sizes - 300g and 500g. The 300g is a perfect meal for one on its own, whilst the 500g is great for sharing. They are perfect for eating alone as meals, but you can split a cottage pie and add vegetables for example to make a couple of meals. It'll be sure to fill your tum right up.
The most amazing thing about this product is the fat and nutritional content. A 300g pack contains just 156 calories and 4.20g of fat (less than 3%)! That\'s less than half as much...
