...Lancashire have been County Championship runners-up for the last 3 seasons and still await their first championship since 1934. The rise of the county in the 4-day game has coincided with a decline in their one-day performances though the 2 may not be so closely linked. They are now captained by John Crawley but the county still has 3 former captains Mike Atherton, Neil Fairbrother and Mike Watkinson to call on. Atherton is the only Lancahsire player with a central contarct and is likely to be the only one playing regularly for the England test team in the near future. Crawley, Fairbrother and Watkinson are just 3 of a host of present Lancashire players who have been tried in the England team but as presently not being considered for recall. ...This restaurant from the outside looks very posh as it has the bay tree balls and the menu on a stand outisde. It is a little out of town and doesn't quite seem right in Crawley, but we gave it a try. Booking was very easy and the telephone manner of the person I spoke to was very good. Upon arrival our coats were taken and we were given a choice of where we could sit. The restaurant is long and curved with the majority of tables looking out onto the street via large picture windows. This was not so good in terms of the view because it is of a dual carraigeway and there were plenty of louts walking up and down the pavement. Decor is monochrome and the lighting is at a low level which creates a nice atmosphere. ...Whatever happened to lnacashire's one day form this season. In the past fortnight I have witnessed two of the most dreadful performances put out by what I certainly regarded as one of the best and most competetive one-day units in the country. First there was the dismal display against the old enemy Yorkshire in the Sunday league in which the top order just crumbled. When chasing against Gloucestershire one would have thought that a side packed with talent: the likes of Atherton, Flintoff, Crawley, Ganguly would have been able to get in and deal with a fairly ordinary Gloucs attack. Its just not happening this season, and things have to change around dramatically if they are to avoid the drop in the sunday league.... Read review

Advantages: cheap beer, no music allows you to hear each other speak!!
Disadvantages: Poor decor, can get busy

...With there not been a huge choice of bars in Crawley (near Gatwick) Wetherspoons is always an obvious winner due to its trademark of having cheap beer. It is practically the only pub South of London where you can purchase a pint for under £2.00. Mondays are a firm favourite with many bottles of reef, stella etc been 99p which always attracts a crowd. There is a range of beers on tap and the bar also offers a good selection of tropical cocktails for £6.00 a jug. Bargain!!! Food, is as the same as all Wetherspoons, cheap and cheerful but is of a good quality. Service can be slow in peak times, however with such cheap drinks nobody really minds been kept waiting too long!! There is a good range of meals served, with my favourite been the weekday offer of 2 meals for £5.99. This offer includes things such as lasagne, fish, lamb burgers etc... Read review

...Have been here a few times. It is located on the main high street in Crawley where most of the other restaurants and bars are which is very handy. It can be booked in advance but they also let you go along on the night and if they can't fit you in straight away they take your mobile number and call you when one is. You can then go off and get a drink elsewhere if you want to. As you walk in you enter a very small bar area and are immediately greeted by friendly staff who will take you to your table. THere are plenty of tables of different sizes to accomodate different parties. They tend to group larger parties together which is good if you want a quiet romantic meal. The decor is old style as there are beams throughout, not sure if they are original but it is the same from the outside too. Each table has a candle in a glass holder... Read review

Advantages: Convenient Gatwick Parking
Disadvantages: Pretty Poor For a 4 Star Hotel...

....00 in total for the parking and one night's accommodation in a double room, breakfast not included. This really represents pretty good value for money, but as said, there are a large number of hotels in and around Crawley/Gatwick offering similar deals, and judging from our experience, the Arora International is probably not amongst the best of them. The Arora is located fairly close to Crawley's town centre and was easy enough to find. It is a large, modern-looking building, with a square glass atrium at its entrance. The hotel's main reception area is light and open, and includes a café/ bar with coffee tables & leather armchairs, a row of 4 or 5 computer terminals with internet access, and a tall, modern water feature, dramatically obscuring the elevators at one end.
