The DaVinci Code
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by
brodiegirl
Advantages: Great movie
Disadvantages: Comparing
...Ok i'll start off by telling you what the DaVinci Code is... At the begining of the movie the very well respected American symobolgy proffeser Robert Langdon (Hanks) is asked to come to Louvre (in France) to work out the mysteries behind the murder of a historian that he knew. A short while after being there he finds out that the FBI lead by Fache (Reno) beleives him to be the number 1 suspect for the murder. The dead guy was more than a historian he was also a grandfather to a young woman named Sophie who helps Langdon with the case and is by his side all the way through the movie.Langdon is hit with puzzles, codes, crypts traters and many other things but he still makes it out of France and back to England to discover the secrets behind the codes going all the way back to Leanardo Da Vinci.
OK secondly what i like about the movie...

Da Vinci Turns In His Grave
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by
cocoklo
Advantages: good acting, impressive effects, interesting concept
Disadvantages: poor scripting, it is just not that good
...be the product of an awful script. For that, I blame the writer of the screenplay cross-bred with the writer of the novel. A badly written novel with what appears to be only its worst bits translated onto the screen.
***** DVD ******
The DVD comes with a whole disc of special features; mostly inimaginative interviews with all and sundry that were ever involved in the making of the film. Wholly uninteresting.
The only special feature that is vaguely interesting is "The Codes of the Da Vinci Code", but then again, it contains nothing that hasn't been done, re-done and rereleased 40,000 times on network TV in the last 3 years.
If you have the double-disc set, don't watch the special features. It's a couple of hours of your life you will never get back. The interview with the author is particularly dull and pseudo-intellectual. I really have...

The Da Vinci Code - fact, fiction, or just hype?
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
CaptainDisaster
Advantages: Decent plot, some interesting characters...
Disadvantages: ... written with all the subtelty of a sledgehammer
...I have to admit, I only really read The Da Vinci Code out of curiosity. After all, few books in the past century have created as much fuss as this one. Seen by some as a beacon of truth and others as a scandalous attack on Christendom (particularly the Catholic Church), it's obviously not a book that one can be indifferent to.
Er… well actually, I think you can. Certainly I was. Despite the fact that most people seem to either passionately love or violently loathe The Da Vinci Code and indeed Dan Brown and his other novels, I finished it feeling that it was really nothing more than a slightly below average thriller. (Admittedly this is not a genre I particularly read a lot of. My opinion based on what I have read is that Tom Clancy is unequalled among modern thriller writers, though I do dislike the amount of profanity in his books...

The Da Vinci Code - AMAZING!
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
showbiz0
Advantages: Amazing storyline, breathtaking conspiracies - totally believable!
Disadvantages: Can lose interest in a few chapters - but it always gets better.
...the French Judicial Police and are in a race against time to solve the Da Vinci Code, find the Priory's main secret and keep it alive to be passed down in generations to come.
The conspiracy theories mentioned in "The Da Vinci Code" can be looked up on the internet, as i did myself, to see whether or not what Dan Brown writes is true. Guess what?....It is. Every location, every group and all the paintings and artefacts mentioned are all real. This adds something special to the story and makes it much more believable. Whether or not what Dan Brown concludes at the end of the story is true, well...that's something else. What i am able to say is the characters, the locations, the build up of tension the twists and turns of the story and the backing up of hard evidence makes this book an absolute must.
Words cannot describe how i feel...

Dan Brown Review 1 - The Da Vinci Code
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
sirbrooke
Advantages: Exhilirating Read, Suspense is high, Left on constant cliff-hangars!
Disadvantages: You can not put the book down, especially when working!
...Firstly, I am in the process of writing reviews for each of Dan Brown's four books that have become bestsellers so soon there will be three more! But I thought I would start with, what I thought was the best first!
I would classify this book under the reading genre of thriller!
Dan Brown is a well known author who has been writing quality American novels since teaching English. The Da Vinci code is not part of a series of books as such but is the second bestselling novel written by Dan Brown. However, the main protagonist has been followed through into this novel.
While in Paris on business, the main protagonist: Robver Langdon recieves a late-night phone call informing him that the curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Adjacent to the body, police have found a set of complex codes. Alongside Robert...

Da Vinci Code? More like The Sun's crossword
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
black_dog
Advantages: Great idea for a thriller, clever ideas
Disadvantages: Boring characters, Hollywood cliches, easy codes
...I began reading Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code after receiving it at my 18th birthday from a close friend. Needless to say, there was a great deal of hype surrounding the thriller, and many a glorious comment leered out at me from the opening pages. I was excited; I hadn't read a good modern book since The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, and I was eager to sink my brain into this much-talked-about tome.
Our story centres on main protagonist and Harvard professor Robert Langdon, beginning with the untimely murder of Louvre curator Jacques Sauniere, whom Langdon had travelled to Paris to meet. Events proceed to bring the shocked professor to the scene of Sauniere's death, where upon he discovers the man's body lies spread out in mimicry of a Pagan pentagon. Langdon happens to be an expert on this kind of stuff, and so...

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
ralfschumacher
Advantages: Good pace, easy to read, good and interesting characters. Good Story.
Disadvantages: It's not real.
...This is a review written by my cousin that I thought I would put on here:
When I purchased this book in January 2006, I was aware that it was a best seller and that millions of people had read it. I had ignored the reviews and had little idea of the content. Some reviewers early on had said that author Dan Brown's research was "Fantastic" Brown's editor continues to stand by his man, saying that Brown made nothing up save the fictional, contemporary story wrapped around religious controversy. After I browsed through the story initially, I realized what I was in for, and why all the ensuing critical flack from art historians, religious scholars. As a result, I can still identify with those who find inspiration from The Da Vinci Code, which relates the following:
At night in the Louvre Museum in Paris, an albino monk dressed...

Da Vinci Code
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
coldkarma
Advantages: Interesting, well written, fast paced.
Disadvantages: Lacked characterization, partially drags on.
...I read this book straight after I read Angels and Demons because I was a huge fan of Angels and Demons because it really gripped me, I hugely enjoyed it and it was a book I couldn't put down at all. Upon reading this book, I was expecting a whole better than Angels and Demons, but taken into consideration that The Da Vinci Code is a whole different kind of story to Angels and Demons, although both books have the main character, the hero Robert Langdon.
The book begins in Paris, France where a unusual murder has taken place in the Louvre, which Landgon unexpectantly finds himself has the main suspect. From there, Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Neveu find themselves on the run while in search for the truth, but the truth becomes something more bigger than previously thought.
When reading this book I found myself a bit slightly...

The Da Vinci code
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
Matt.Blundell
Advantages: An entertaining conspiracy read
Disadvantages: Its not true
...Author : Dan Brown
RRP: £6.99
Shops: Smiths, Waterstones any decent book shop
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown was a book I had been planning to read for some time however, due to a back catalogue of reading materials I had put it off until last week.
Several friends have recommended the book to me and everything I have read regarding the book meant that it was definitely one I should read.
Now I make no apologies for not being overly in depth with the plot for this book as I believe, like revenge, it is a dish best served cold to coin a phrase. The reader should be free to experience the book for themselves rather than through the eyes of me or anyone else.
The Plot:
The first thing you read in the book is that all of the Architecture, Locations and secret societies in the book are real...an intriguing start I am sure...

The Da Vinci Code
Review of The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown by
Nuclear_darkness
Advantages: Very enthralling read, addictive
Disadvantages: It does have plot holes but most wont notice, religiously controversial
..., Leigh Teabing being the angel is disguise, and then all these roles turned around by the end of the book. It sounds a complicated read but i was so engrossed by it that i couldnt put it down and i wasnt once lost by the story telling. Although at some points the english was lax and half hearted.
I can wholeheartedly reccomend this book to any budding conspiracy enthusiast or anyone looking for a particularily gripping read, or even for a commuter looking for a distraction on the morning trains. The Da Vinci code has it all, only slightly tainted by some of the plot holes or minor downfalls....
