Review of Live (Philadelphia 1978/Dallas 1980) - Blondie by Ryan74

Advantages: The songs are still quality
Disadvantages: Quite dodgy throughout, long meandering solos, no atmosphere

...whenever Blondie play, rather than for their technical ability. Atmosphere is one thing that is lost when attempts are made to capture the live sound of the band (or of any band, for that matter) on record, and this album, recorded in the Walnut Theatre, Philadelphia, 1978 and Dallas, Texas 1980 only highlights such problems rather than accentuating Blondie’s strengths. Indeed, this album unfortunately demonstrates all of Blondie’s weakness as a live band. The album is very poorly mixed and at times it seems as though the band are playing for a crowd of five football hooligans and you can almost picture their leering stares and ugly faces thanks to the catcalls they throw in Debbie Harry’s direction throughout the set. Advantages: Very exciting, rich and entertaining city
Disadvantages: Can get expensive

...If you’ve ever read my personal profile, you will be aware that I spent a year in Dallas. This was my work placement year of my degree course and involved me being trained as a manager in a downtown hotel. I returned about a year ago, and have yet to settle back into British life. Things are very dull, and generally unfriendly over here compared to my experiences in Dallas, and therefore I will return permanently as soon as possible. INTRODUCTION Dallas is the biggest and flashiest, and the most rich and prosperous of all the Texas cities. Dallas is of course located just 30 miles from Fort Worth in the north of Texas.
