Pentium IV...Vs...Athlon DDR
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2 GHz processor by
cjkace
Advantages: Will be fast when the software is optimised
Disadvantages: New socket format, special power supply, uses RDRAM at the moment.
...cases. Will this be true when OfficeXP is launched? Maybe not 100%, but you can bet that it includes the optimisations and will run a lot better than it would have.
So what's the big deal about the Pentium IV?
It contains a totally new architecture that Intel have named Netburst, which by it's very nature needs very high clock speeds, made up of:-
Hyper Pipelined Technology - basically a way to make the CPU do less work per clock cycle.
Rapid Execution Engine - double pumps the integer instructions.
Cache Memory - lower latency and higher bandwidth level 2 cache memory.
400Mhz system bus - as opposed to the Athlon DDR's 266Mhz sustem bus.
The other big feature is the addition of SSE2, the latest incarnation of MMX. As with MMX, any software that is optimised for these instructions will have a huge advantage over un...

Review of GeIL Ultra Series DDR2 DRAM 1 GB PC2-6400 by
emilne82
Advantages: Price, Overclockability
Disadvantages: none
...- PC6400 800MHz CAS 4-4-4-12
- 64x8 DDR2 BGA Chips
- 240pin, Non-ECC, Un-buffered DDR2 SDRAM DIMM
- Aluminum Heat-spreader
- 6 Layers Ultra Low Noises Shielded PCB
- Lifetime Warranty
- 1.9V-2.3V Power Supply
Geil is an American manufacturer of memory chips. In the UK they are not well known and face huge competition from the likes of Kingston and Crossair. However in America Geil is a big brand name with plenty of success stories behind them. In the uk their products are priced very competitively. However the general trend with computer memory at the moment is that it is rapidly getting more and more expensive as demand is out doing supply. The reason for this is the upcoming release of windows Vista and the recently released Core2Duo processors. For these reasons the price of ram is very volatile.
I was lucky enough...

YOUR FIRST STOP FOR MEMORY!
Review of crucial.com by
mdstone
Advantages: cheap prices, good customer service
Disadvantages: Haven't found one yet!
...) If you are buying from Crucial, then you will be getting inside your PC in order to fit your new RAM. So if you open your PC case having switched off your PC and unplugged all your cables, you can quickly locate your RAM, which should be one or more green sticks of memory slotted into a thin black RAM slot. These will normally be 2 or more slots right next to one another somewhere near the processor (which has a large heatsink fan on top of it!). A diagram in your manual will also point out its exact location.
Once you know where it is, you can remove the memory by un-clipping the white clip that locks the RAM in place and lifting them out gently.
If you look at the sticker on the side of the RAM, it should tell you the speed, size and type, such as PC2100, 256MB and DDR.
3) Using the Crucial site will also tell you what RAM is in your...

GeiL 512 PC3200 DDR Ram
Review of GeIL Value DRAM 512 MB PC3200 by
tungst3n
Advantages: Reliable, Cheap, Ram Heatsinks, Dual Channel friendly
Disadvantages: None - As yet
...I bought two of these sticks at the same time for use in a Dual Channel motherboard.
They have been very reliable and my system has been rock stable.
When buying DDR ram make sure you buy in pairs, make sure it the same rated speed and make sure you buy enough!
The memory is very pleasing on the eye, as it comes intalled with two RAM heatsinks - Useful if you want to overclock or your system runs warm.
The memory I got was rated as 512MB PC3200 DDR400 CL=2.5-6-3-3.
The memory also has a sticker confirming Speed, Cas Latency Rating and Batch number - Useful for getting matched pairs.
All in all cheaper than the "Overclocking" memory brands but as reliable, butnot with the inherent risks of using unbranded memery.

Mmmmm..... DDR RAM
Review of Corsair Value Select DRAM 512 MB PC3200 by
andersonfamily
Advantages: Gives me an extra 512MB
Disadvantages: No manual.
...This review is a little brief, but you can't write too much about a little stick of RAM! No, really you can't.
Even though I had a computer with 1GB of memory I decided I wanted even more from my computer, so I bought this! 512MB is the average amount of RAM a newish computer has, but it really isn't a lot in the long term. But saying I was only upgrading extra!
I never went into a computer before, as I was a software person myself. So I was obviously scared, in case I broke anything. So I spent about ten minutes researching, I thought it would take hours but I was amazed at the simplicity described!
I remember the days of 16MB RAM being loads, so I thought 512MB would cost lots, I was extremely shocked; it only cost around £30, from eBuyer!
Now I'll do a little explaining. Many different types of RAM exist, DDR 400 (PC3200...
