Venice for luxury
Review of Venice (Italy) by
SNINKUM
Advantages: Lots to see.
Disadvantages: Crowded.
...It was when I was expecting my first son that I stayed at the Des Bains in Venice. This hotel was where they filmed "Death in Venice" with Dirk Bogarde (who my sons nicknamed Dick Bogey when I used to read his autobiographies). It is a really sumptuous place with matching beach towels and seats in lemon and white stripes. Huge rooms with high ceilings and an air of luxurious silence.
Goodness knows where anyone could find the money to stay there nowadays but even then a man was complaining because he wanted yoghurt for his son for breakfast and they wanted to charge him extra.
Of course wherever you want to stay in Venice you can easily visit the popular places by waterbus. This is a novel way to travel and beats cars and roads anyday in my opinion.
A very interesting book about Venice is Miss Garnet's Angel by Salley Vickers...

Venice Boardwalk is a very unique place
Review of Venice Boardwalk, Los Angeles by
migetboy99
Advantages: One of a kind
Disadvantages: Kind of crowded
...Venice Boardwalk is a one of a kind place. No where in the world will you find a stretch this wierd and intersting. Right next to the beach, venice is a great way to spend a few hours or a whole day in Los Angeles. It passes through Muscle Beach as well, which is an outdoor gym. The boardwalk is lined with small shops and tatoo parlours on one side and vendors on the other. Also, there are human statues, comedians, and picture opputunities. The parking is a little bit expensive if you take your own car, but the shops and vendors are fairly cheap. If you have never been to Venice Boardwalk, you're really missing out on a special spot!...

Venice
Review of Venice (Italy) by
paulhodson
Advantages: Historic and unique architecture and atmosphere
Disadvantages: expensive
...I visited Venice last November to ask my girlfriend to marry me. The city is an excellent location for a romantic break. It seems that every building is historic - everywhere there are small squares that appear unchanged for centuries. November is in the low period, so the city is not overrun with tourists, unlike the summer months. It can also become rather smelly during the summer.
A ride in a gondola is a must for a romantic break - but be prepared to pay up to £40 per hour. Allow an hour for the ferry journey from the airport to Venice itself - unless you can afford a more expensive water taxi.
A great place to wander, and spend money on stylish clothes!...

Church of Santa Maria Dela Salute
Review of Santa Maria della Salute, Venice by
poshtroika
Advantages: Away from the Tourist Hoards of St Marks.
Disadvantages: None
...Longhena's death the work was carried on by Antonio Gaspari(1687).
The Church is one of the must see sights of Venice containing Sculptures by Bartolomeo Bon, Tullio Lombardo. Paintings by Titian, The Pentecost, Saint Mark with Saint Como. The Sacrifice of Abraham, David and Goliath. My favourite though is the Wedding at Cana (1551) by Tintoretto.
It is a tru wonder, Building, Statues and Paintings at no cost, free entry just leave a donation if you want.
Also now you are on this side of called Giudecca, it is little known with Tourists who mostly do not wander over from St Marks. It is a little gem to explore, and with the Bars serving very good House Red at 80 cents a glass very pleasant....

The FIRST Death In Venice
Review of Who Saw Her Die? DVD by
sghawken
Advantages: A gripping stylish thriller
Disadvantages: None
...minded person will be a bit disturbed by one of the taboo subjects featured.
Special Features:
Trailer - This overly long trailer gives far too much away about the movie, but in viewing it it does prepare you for the slightly hairier Lazenby that most of us are familiar with.
Death In Venice - An Interview With Aldo Lado - This very short 11 minute feature is actually very interesting. Lado's work although highly acclaimed seemed to stay clear of publicity unlike many of his rival directors I.e. Lucio Fulci, Dario Argento, Mario Bava. This feature tells you more than 100 interviews with Argento does. Aldo talks about his movies, in particular his collaboration of Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango In Paris, and how if Brando had not delayed the movie to film The Godfather, Who Saw Her Die? Would never have been made. Also he dispels some...

Venice On My Mind
Review of Venice (Italy) by
MALU
Advantages: innumerable
Disadvantages: none for me
...I have to go from Germany to the South of Italy every year in summer. To shorten the long journey and to make it less exhausting I always put in a stopover in Venice.
Is that true? No, it is what I tell my friends and acquaintances who feel the urge to advise me against it. Even if they have never been to Venice they know it is not worth seeing (any more) as it has become a kind of Italian Disneyland which the inhabitants have fled and where tourists only meet other tourists. They would rather abstain and preserve their dreams and complain the fact that they were born too late. Oh, had they lived when Byron stayed there and used to swim home after parties pushing a board with a candle through the canals to show him the way home! But today? Stinking water, garbage everywhere. A swim would mean if not immediate death at least...

Very inviting and relaxing
Review of Venice Airport (VCE) by
Mufasa_1
Advantages: Very inviting and clean
Disadvantages: Busy
...My experience at Venice airport was very smooth, the buses to and from the terminals were excellent, and there was absolutely no hassle whatsoever. The baggage reclaim and passport control was smooth and when we left, we were greeted by fountains and flowers that were very pleasing to the eye, unmatched by other airports i have been to.
Outside the airport, taxis were easily available as well as other forms of transport and within five minutes of leaving the airport, the landscape was that of traditional italian countryside with canals and rustic barns every mile or so.
Venice itself was a very nice place with bagfuls of character and some charming squares and pizzerias that will stay with me for a long time.
The trip was made complete by having no stress at all and i thank Venice airport for that and i would thoroughly reccomend...

Venice
Review of Venice (Italy) by
Faitho
Advantages: Pretty, good shopping, romantic, lots to see,...
Disadvantages: Some dodgey areas, can get smelly,
...I visited Venice a few years ago as part of a school trip and thought it was a lovely place. It was very romantic and pretty and full of History.
I had been told by lots of people that it would be smelly and dirty, but I didn't think it was (I did go in October though, it probably is less pleasant in the summer).
There were lots of nice clothes shops around and plenty of craft shops too. There was also a street of market stalls selling lots of lovely gifts and nicknaks.
I would recomend that you take a travel guide with you so you know where to go and what to look out for. It'll also help if you get lost, which is quite easy to do as all the streets look the same! Some area's of the city are not that nice, but the rest of the city made up for that. I would have loved to stay for longer as there was so much that I hadn't seen.
I would...

A Truly Excellent Movie
Review of Don't Look Now DVD by
wampyrii
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...Based on a story by Daphne du Maurier, Don't look now tells the story of John Baxter(Donald Sutherland) and his wife Laura(Julie Christie) who travel to Venice after the accidental death of their young daughter. She drowned, but whilst in Venice and working on the restoration of a church Baxter begins to discover he has psychic abilities and eventually starts seeing his daugther in flashing glimpses about the streets of Venice. He refuses to believe in his powers, but she is wearing the same red coat in which she drowned and it becomes hard for him not to believe especially aided by the attention of two strange sisters who also claim to see her as well. Its all very mysterious and left unexplained up until the closing scenes...butstick with it and you are in for a treat!
Don't Look Now is of the finest British movies ever made despite...

Venice Carnival
Review of Venice (Italy) by
bostonianbeer
Advantages: Wonderful colour, sights and sounds.
Disadvantages: Never known one.
...The place to fall in love with and the place to be with the one you love.
Venice is my personal favourite holiday visit. If I could I would live there.
We have visited Venice for the past seven years and we go again in March 08. We stay at the Loccanda Remidio Columbina just at the back of St. Mark's Square and on the canal with the Bridge of Sighs.
Six of us in 2004 visited the Venice Carnival and dressed for the occasion. The "Theme" was "The Silk Road." It was in Feb 2004 and we had snow, and rain, but the atmosphere was great. The costumes wonderful and full of imagination, (they had to be to keep warm.) People promenade every afternoon in St. Mark's Square then onto the stage and winners are chosen, how and who votes we never found out.
People come from all over the world to wear their costumes and to see and be seen, just have...
