Reviews of electric salt mill
“Hi Pepper.” “ ’lo Salt.”
Review of Lo Salt by
zoe_page
Advantages: Better for you but tastes the same
Disadvantages: A tiny bit more expensive
...’t grimace because we’ve *all* done it), the taste seems a lot tangier than regular salt. A lot sharper. A lot more likely to induce a grimace (thus meaning I’ll let you off if you’ve just done it and then grimaced when I told you not to). Added to boiling water when cooking pasta or similar, however, you can’t really taste the difference. That’s not to say you don’t need it – pasta without salted water is like a brand new jar of Nutella without a spoon: what’s the point? But, it fits in just as well as regular salt and so is a good substitution to make.
Lo salt only comes in granulated form. You can’t buy rock lo salt (or lo rock salt) so it’s unsuitable for salt mills that grind when you screw them or when you press a little button if you’re really posh. However it comes in nice little tubs of varying sizes, all of which have big and little...

♫ Get on down to Trago Mills ♫
Review of Trago Mills (Liskeard) by
leofluffy69
Advantages: cheap, affordable products
Disadvantages: price stickers leave a mark, and you have to pay extra for carrier bags
...floor is a selection of DIY, Car maintenance, CD, DVD and Book products neatly arranged and easy to find. My only real compliant is that the book, CD and DVD collection is stuck in the past and it is impossible to find a modern book/film.
On the second floor there is a huge stationary department which sells a selection of gift cards, gift wrap and small porcelain/glass/wooden gifts. I stock up on all my paper, pens, pencils and folders as it is a lot better priced than in a more established stationary store.
As a child I remember going to Trago Mills to pick my carpet for my bedroom, or wallpaper and the selection was amazing. I would say that Trago easily compares to the national chain stores such as Homebase, MFI and IKEA.
The prices are very good and on average the prices are about 5%-15% less for electrical and entertainment...

Can't Cook, Will Garnish
Review of Fiddes Payne Sea Salt and Seaweed Grind Mill by
LostWitness
Advantages: Delicious, unusual and good value
Disadvantages: Can't find refills!
....
One thing I like doing is grinding salt or pepper freshly onto my dinner. I hate those little sachets of salt and pepper or even salt shakers that just dispense plain table salt. I love ground sea salt because you can still see the little crystals and the taste is so much more intense. There is also something nicely organic-looking about such things and with ground pepper too, your meal looks that little bit more interesting.
Fiddes Payne is an Oxfordshire-based company that specialises in herbs, spices and cake decorations. I’d never really heard of them before, but if you take a sniff over at their web site (www.fiddespayne.co.uk) you can obtain an appreciation of the sorts of products they manufacture. This particular grind mill attracted my attention because it was quite striking to look at. The main body of the device...

Would you like salt and pepper?
Review of Walkers Sensations - Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper by
vickitomlinson
Advantages: Crunchy crisps with a pleasant natural flavour
Disadvantages: Fat and calorie content
...across the top of the bag. Beneath that is a picture in black and white - or possibly even sepia – of freshly harvested potatoes in a basket, giving the impression that the potatoes have been hand selected for quality. The Sea Salt and Cracked Black Pepper flavour picture just screams flavour at you, with a colour picture of salt crystals and black peppercorns, clearly just waiting to be milled. Underneath the picture, in white letters against a dark blue background are the words “Sea Salt and Cracked Black Pepper flavour crisps”. There is also a photograph of two of the crisps on the bottom right corner of the packet. The packet does look posh, well, certainly more so than the standard Walkers, and is clearly trying to convince us that this is a higher quality product!
As with regular Walkers crisps, the back...

A preserved Victorian Electric Railway
Review of Manx Electric Railway (Isle of Man) by
Coloneljohn
Advantages: Country views preserved trams
Disadvantages: hard seats and hard ride
...Manx electrical Railway
This railway appears to have started construction in 1890.At the Derby Castle end of the Promenade is Burnt Mill Hill, a rather steep climb.
In fact the land on this eastern side proved too much for Steam. With the possibilities of Electric traction though, more ambitious routes could be considered.
There was at one time a plan to merge all the competing transport companies, that is why you will note that the rails for this railway start to extend to the Promenade as do the rails of the Horse tramway start to extend the other way. Neither quite meets.
The station at Derby Castle is not elaborate like the Steam Railway at the other end of town. What you have is a small rustic ticket office.
This railway from its outset was dependant on tourist trade.
The main depot for the railway is situated...

Quarry Bank Mill
Review of Quarry Bank Mill & Styal Country Park by
blissman70
Advantages: Interesting and educational
Disadvantages: none
...Brief history….
Quarry bank mill has one of the only working water mill left in Britain.
It is situated in the beautiful village of Styal, on the banks of the River Bollin
The Mill was built by Samuel Greg in 1784, with the giant metal water wheel being built between 1816 and 1820.
The original wheel broke in 1904 and was replaced years later by another iron wheel to make the Mill the proud owner of the last remaining working water wheel in Europe.
The mill was used for the 'spinning' of cotton (and is still used for that purpose today but more for visitors to see rather than commercial use), it was soon the largest cotton producing factory in its time.
Weaving was introduced to the Mill in 1834 by Robert Greg, (son of Samuel), so as to keep up with the revolution.
Samual Greg was an unusually kind employer for the time...

Setting my sites on PageMill
Review of Adobe PageMill 3.0 Licence by
Kukana
Advantages: Simple for beginners to use, easy to understand, plenty of features
Disadvantages: Not for flashy, animated web-sites, no longer available in shops
.... It was too limited, apparently. So my husband kindly brought me home an old version of FrontPage Express, a more complex version which is usually quite expensive, and which I used for a while, finding it quite similar to Word. We registered the site at Geocities, I learned how to upload pages (very easy at Geocities) and my site was launched.
About a year later, I was finding that FrontPage Express too was a bit buggy, and people told me that it put in lots of extra HTML which made the pages difficult to see in some browsers. The family also tended to be a bit anti-Microsoft, feeling that Bill Gates, clever bod though he undoubtedly is, had already earned far more than anybody should earn in a lifetime, and was in danger of taking over the world.
So when I was given a CD with a free version of Adobe PageMill (I forget if it came...

Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Cheshire
Review of Quarry Bank Mill & Styal Country Park by
Shekera
Advantages: Loads to keep you interested and a lot to learn.
Disadvantages: Probably too much to take in during one trip - most definately need to visit more than once.
...Quarry Bank Mill is a National Trust property which is located 2 miles south of Manchester Airport, Junctions 5 or 6 of the M56 and is well worth a visit – it is a history lesson which for once, is not boring, even for children. There is so much to learn from just on visit.
Quarry Bank Mill was founded in 1784 by Samuel Greg, who at the time was a young textile merchant who chose the site for many reasons, one of which was for its location as it was near to the River Bollin and had easy access to the Bridgewater Canal, which went through Liverpool. Quarry Bank Mill was staffed by orphan children who lived in the Apprentice House, which you can see as part of the Museum.
Through his mill, Samuel Greg built a local community for his workers, which became known as Styal, building local amenities for his staff, such as a church...

Crabble Corn Mill
Review of Crabble Corn Mill, Dover by
Jamie73
Advantages: An educational/historical attraction, cheap entrance
Disadvantages: None
...Living in the port town of Dover and just on the outskirts of the town is the village of River. Here you will find the Crabble Corn Mill.
The Mill.
The structure we see today visiting was constructed in 1812 along side an existing mill which was later demolished.
Its said that there has always been a mill on this site since early records state that in 1227 Henry III granted a charter to the nearby abbey.
Cost.
Admission to the Mill is 4 pound for adults and 3 pounds for children and OAPs.This price is for an unguided tour ,and should you wish a tour guide you must pay an additional pound on top of the entrance fee.
You can purchase a family ticket for 13 pounds.
The Tour.
The Crabble Corn Mill is in fact a working museum and all around you is the excellent Georgian and Victorian engineering. They really have enhanced...

Caudwell's Mill & Craft Centre, Derbyshire
Review of Caudwell's Mill Craft Centre, Derbyshire by
micksheff
Advantages: Interesting traditional workshops
Disadvantages: Admission charge to tour the flour mill and not really suited for disabled visitors
...Located just off the busy A6 trunk road at Rowsley near Matlock in the heart of the Peak District National Park is where Caudwell's Mill and Craft Shop is to be found. I would describe this as one of those little gems that I occasionally stumble upon whilst out walking in the Derbyshire's countryside. Despite its location on a busy road it is set back from the main road and could quite easily be overlooked although it is sign-posted.
Whilst the central attraction of this place is a traditional working flour mill there is plenty more to see here as well. There are jewellery making workshops where you can watch jewellery being made by hand, a glass studio where you can see molten glass being blown, a blacksmiths where we watched horseshoes being made, an artist where portraits can be commissioned and a wood turner. At each...
