Their Last Holiday - EVER.
Review of Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont - Elizabeth Taylor by
KarenUK
Advantages: Interesting, well observed
Disadvantages: Sad, slow-paced
.... Elizabeth Taylor (1912-1975) is not an author I had heard of before and this isn’t the kind of novel I would usually choose, but after reading my best friend Emily (Ophelia)’s review on Dooyoo, I felt it was something I would like to try. I subsequently borrowed it from the library and finished reading it yesterday.
It is a short paperback, just over 200 pages long and one that is easy to read, requiring little concentration. The pace is slow, occasionally veering towards dull, but never quite sinking to that level. It is not a bad book by any means, but neither is it one which will remain engraved in your mind forever.
If you enjoy books with plenty of action, this is probably not for you. This is a very calm book in many ways. It is more a social commentary full of well-observed minutiae than an event-driven page...

White Diamonds Are Forever
Review of Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds Eau De Toilette Spray for Her by
kimhumphreys
Advantages: Attractive bottle, fairly nice smell
Disadvantages: Can sometimes come over too strong and sickly
...I was bought this perfume as a christmas present. God knows why because I've never really been a fan of Elizabeth Taylor, but hey, I'm prepared to try anything.
First of all, I'd like to start with the packaging. It's fairly attractive, if not a tad fussy. A straight bottle with a gold lid and diamond-looking gems around the top. The perfume is a peachy-pink colour. Overall, the bottle suits the name of the bottle - White Diamond!
The pefume was launched in 1991, and it's fairly inexpensive. It comes in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml bottles and costs £11 (approx) for the smallest bottle, up to £30 for the biggest bottle.
According to the manufacturers, it contains amazon lily, & neroli followed by amber, musk and sandalwood. It sounds fussy and to be honest, it is. There's too many smells in one bottle.
The first time I sprayed it...

A Splendid 'Elizabeth R' She Is!
Review of Elizabeth R DVD by
zerbine28
Advantages: Splendid turn by Glenda Jackson; brilliant scripts; historical accuracy; sumptuous costumes; compleat DVD set (Region 1).
Disadvantages: Off with your silly head!
...'She is magnificent!'
- Sir Francis Bacon exclaiming to Sir Robert Cecil, on hearing a later speech of Elizabeth I, as dramatized in 'Elizabeth R'.
Elizabeth I was the last of the Tudor line, the lion's cub, and in so many ways, a true daughter of her father, Henry VIII. The country would enjoy a lasting peace during her reign, when drama, writing and poetry would flourish (through the likes of Shakespeare, Marlowe, Bacon and others). The once fearsome Spanish armada would soon lose its lustre, to be replaced by the English navy, which would rule the waters for a few centuries.
The line quoted above could easily apply to Glenda Jackson, too, in her role as Elizabeth I in this outstanding 1971 BBC TV production of 'Elizabeth R'. This six-part mini-series remains today as the finest filmed version of Elizabeth I's life...

Taylor's Swiftly Become a Favourite!
Review of Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift by
bamamo
Advantages: great vocals and songwriting
Disadvantages: a few weaker tracks in the middle, not released in the UK yet
...I first heard of Taylor Swift when I heard "Teardrops on My Guitar" on internet radio and promptly downloaded it. A few months later I heard "Our Song" and read an interview in a magazine as her debut album was to be reissued. Well, here it is, and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
For those of you who are not familiar with her, Taylor is quickly making a big name for herself in the country music world - and she's only 18! After setting out to Nashville at the age of 13 from her home in Pennsylvania, she quickly snapped up a record contract and her debut single Tim McGraw was released in 2006, and to date all three of her singles have made not only the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot Country Songs (Our Song reaching number one), but also the Top 40 of the Billboard 100. This self-titled album, first released in 2006 and reissued in late...

Taylor 310 Dreadnought Is Money Well Spent
Review of Taylor 310 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar by
mmosier
Advantages: Quality construction, great playability, reasonable price
Disadvantages: None
...The Taylor Guitar company touts its' Taylor 310 Dreadnought acoustic guitar as being the most affordable full size, solid wood guitar in the Taylor line. This instrument was constructed with the "no frills design" concept in mind--great sound, easy playability, and quality construction, for a reasonable price. After I "test drove" one of these guitars, I must say that the Taylor 310 Dreadnought acoustic guitar lives up to the hype.
This guitar is a six-string acoustic guitar that is a member of the Taylor 300 Series. The back and sides are sepele mahogany, the top is sitka spruce, and the neck is mahogany, with an ebony fretboard complete with pearl dot inlays. The nut and saddle are made of tusq, and the headstock overlay is Indian rosewood. The soundhole rosette is made of plastic, and the binding on the body is black plastic...
