...Epiphone are the same company as Gibson apart from the fact that Gibson guitars are made with the highest quality wood and components, and instead of being made in the USA they're made in poorer countries like Taiwan or Korea therefore being cheaper. The quality of Epiphone guitars, in the last few years, has increased. With the EPIPHONE Les Paul Std.'s the only main difference are the pickups - so if you buy some burstbuckers you should get a sound pretty much the same (quote from www.gibson.com - "BurstBuckers put the “edge” on replica Gibson sounds") The Epiphone Les Paul Standard comes with either a '50's Rounded or '60's slim taper neck profile where as Classic is only '60's slim. ...The Epiphone studio guitar that I own is the "limited edition, Gothic ,studio ,les paul" and therefore unsurprisingly this is the guitar I am reviewing. The Epiphone Gothic les paul is not to distant to it's Gibson cousin, it contains the same electronics and additional metal-wear (machine heads, dial heads etc.) the only major difference is that the Gibson is handmade and so costs a fortune! The Epiphone is a body heavy guitar but is also still very light when compared to something like a B.C. Rich Warlock. The Gothic les paul maintains the good tone and over all sound you would expect from Gibson but at Epiphone prices! Clean Channel --------------------- On a clean channel this guitar provides a good blues sound perfect for .....well blues. If given the slightest overdrive it makes for a brilliant jazz... Advantages: reasonably priced, easy to play, great sound
Disadvantages: not quite a gibson

...When it comes to buying guitars, there's a lot of discrepancy about who makes the best guitars, who has the best sound, which guitar looks cooler...... the list goes on. The main argument seems to be whether Gibson or Fender are the better manufacturer. For me it has to be Gibson! The Les Paul it just oozing with style and quality, and it's a privilege to own one! believe me! A Gibson Les Paul standard in this day and age would probably set you back a whopping £1500 at the least! So it's good to know that you can get the next best thing for a lot cheaper. Epiphone guitars are a branch of the Gibson brand, and so are manufactured for sound and quality, but dont have quite the same 'ingredients'. Advantages: Traditional Les Paul (LP) Looks, Cheap, Lighter than its LP counterparts

...The Gibson Les Paul is iconic in the music world, although we all cannot afford the £2000 + prices that are being charged for them, and Gibson realised this, so they created a sister company, Epiphone, who produced cheaper models of the Gibson range, available to beginners and intermediates, who didn't want to shell out thousands on a first guitar. The model I bought was an "Epiphone Les Paul 100" Basically, this thing has your classic Les Paul looks with a thinner body and open coil humbuckers. Out of the box what you get is a solid body Alder top and Mahogany body guitar, with two Epiphone open coil Humbuckers (Bridge and Neck). ...as when you bought it everytime I would recomend this guitar to anyone, it is professional quality for not professional money, and compared to the Gibson Les Paul, well all i can say is, i was not impressed, when i\'m paying over a thousand pounds for Gibson, I saw it as the same quality as the Epiphone Les Paul 100, no comparison, the Epiphone Les Paul standard was much better and remains one of the best guitars i have ever played, ever felt and ever herd! - Recomended to everyone and anyone - Sam.... Advantages: Sweet clasic sound of truck Rock & Roll
Disadvantages: Quite heavy

...I would have to say haveing not owned but played all of them the Studio would have to be the best Epiphone Les Paul i have played. Which is uppose is why i bought it. At £260 reduced from £350 it is a very nice second or third guitar, depending on your finacial posision. I think out of all the mainsteam guitars on the market has the largest could variety i have ever seen. At least 15 Different shades of sunburst, not to mension the different shades of hardware. It gives a perfect soud unique to the Gibson and Epiphone ranges. I would be carful not to be confused as a first time buyer for repicas such as "Vintage" or "De-Amon" who have never beed able recreate the true Gibson sound. As guitar shop sales are common it is definetly a guitar to look out for!!... Read review
