...First things first, I love my Vespa; I simply wouldn’t be without it. Every single day I thank God that I don’t have to queue with the rest of them, that I can just whiz to the front of the queue every time. I bought mine a year ago and frankly there was no contest when deciding on a model. It’s alluring shape won me over and I loved the way it purred (much quieter than previous models). I chose the ET2 partly because of price and partly because I didn’t think I’d need to exceed 40 mph living in London. I have a few gripes about it. It’s not really built for England since it doesn’t like the cold one bit (frequent stalling in winter, arriving at your destination with frostbite- but that’s not the ET2’s fault, get some good gloves!) ...When I was looking to buy my first scooter I read through all the internet opinions I could find on scooters; the pros and cons of each model, the history behind the scooter and all that jazz. Two years on and 3 models later I have know owned a Vespa ET4 for around three months now and in my opinion this is by far the best scooter out there. (Note at the time of writing this the GT200 has just been released, I have test driven this and have been very impressed by this bike too, though I believe the cost to be a little prohibitive and beyond what a person looking for a scooter can afford - at least for now) My first scooter was a Suzuki 50 cc, which I traded in for an ET2 about a year later. ...The Vespa ET2 and ET4 are the most popular scooters on London's streets, and have been for a couple of years now. It's a position they well deserve. I've been riding the four-stroke, 125cc ET4 since 1999 and have felt no desire to change. When I first saw the smooth curves and sleek metal skin I knew I wanted this machine. It was an incredibly original look, evoking models from the scootering heyday of the 1960s yet not out of place in the 21st century. A timeless design. Less striking but no less important, the performance lives up to the appearance. Incredibly reliable, as you would expect from Vespa, cheap to run and a smooth ride. ...Anniversary Edition is the one to get, but should you already have the 1996 release, it boils down to the fact whether you want those original end credits or not. The re-recordings are considered by many older collectors as being better both in sound quality and performance, but there is no denying the power of the original recording (not to mention the sound on the film recordings are stupendous for their clarity). In any case, this is definitely a score not to be missed despite the reputation of it being saccharine and sugary-sweet as that is a flat out lie.
