The School of Slavonic and East European Studies
Review of Slavonic and East European Studies by  Adereterial

Advantages: Full resources for regional study
Disadvantages: It's in London!

...Again, Ciao have this in the wrong section, even though I had to ask for this to be included! The school of Slavonic and East European Studies (hereafter SSEES) is not part of UCL's faculty of Humanities and Social Studies, but a separate, self contained department with it's own library, building, tutors, facilities, Student's Union and representatives. It is responsible for the teaching and research into the areas covered by the former Soviet Union, Balkans, Baltic, East Central Europe and South East Asia. It covers the following subject areas: History, Culture, Languages, Anthropology, Languages, Foreign relations and current events in most of the countries of the area. Currently SSEES is located within Senate House, the same building as the University of London and it's huge library, of which it was a part until it merged... Read review

My Wee College
Review of Corpus Christi College, Oxford by  cokane

Advantages: Small College, Easy to make friends, Beautiful
Disadvantages: The expense of living but that's Oxford

...I have been a student at Corpus Christi College for just under four years now, studying Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry. I am now entering my final term and as such should really be studying instead of spending this much time on ciao; but I think I'd like to write about the place whilst my experiences of it are fresh in my mind and I think now the end is sight I'm getting a little nostalgic for it already. So I thought I'd put down my opinions of it now while the idea is still in my head. I hope it can be of benefit to those who may be thinking of applying to Oxford and are unsure of what the atmosphere would be or which college they should go for. Also I hope that some younger readers who may not have even thought of applying will think about doing so, you by no means have to be a genius to get in, some of the very thickest... Read review

Coombeshead College, is it worth attending?
Review of Coombeshead College by  KellytheGreenStar

Advantages: Fantastic media facilities
Disadvantages: Small field for playing sports

...Due to a very upsetting complaint from a member on this site saying that my review of my old school was slanderous and biased to the extremes, I have re-written it to be more positive and non-slanderous just to please them. I do apologise for my general opinion of the college being as such but if others feel that my opinion is too far gone then I will retract what I have written and write a new. So for those who have already put a rating on this review please feel free to re-rate. Well anyway, Coombeshead College is the largest comprehensive school in Newton Abbot. It has everything you might need at a secondary school and sixth form until you are 19, that is if you plan to continue on to do your A-Levels, GNVQs, etc there once you have completed your GCSEs. The college itself has gained a media arts status which is the reason why... Read review

The European Constitution - not what Europe needs
Review of Should the UK ratify the European Convention by  lobourse

Advantages: Political symbolism, being a fully paid-up EU member
Disadvantages: Too inflexible, backward-looking, bureaucratic and doesn't answer the EU's problems

...In December 2001, when the Heads of the governments (and applicant countries) issued the Laeken Declaration, their stated aim was to bring the EU closer to the people and re-connect the EU project with an increasingly hostile and/or indifferent public. From this declaration came the European Convention, chaired by former French President, Valerie Giscard d'Estaing, which drew up a draft Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe, which was duly amended and signed by the Heads of Government in 2004. Did the Treaty which emerged meet the challenge to re-connect with the European Public? Should the UK sign up to it, since we have been promised a referendum? What are the changes made by the Constitution? 1) It simplifes the existing Treaty structure, by bringing everything under one document. It also changes the names... Read review

CCAD - Teesside's only art college
Review of Cleveland College of Art and Design by  Magdalena

Advantages: Only art college in the area, friendly atmosphere, lots of courses.
Disadvantages: Not great for part-time students, a little lacking on the aesthetic side!

...OVERVIEW ---------------- Cleveland College of Art and Design has three campuses in the Tees Valley (North East England). It has been established for over 100 years and is currently the only independent, specialist arts college in the North East. Two of the campuses are in Middlesbrough, on Burlam Road and Green Lane, and the third is in Hartlepool, in Church Square. The college offers a fairly large range of courses leading to various qualifications, including NCFE, GNVQ, BTEC, and Foundation Degrees (FdA). The courses are really too extensive to list them all on here, but I will give an overview - for a full prospectus you can visit the CCAD website at www.ccad.ac.uk. The courses include: Art and Design Fashion Fine Art Graphic Design Media Multimedia TV and Film Production Photography CCAD also run some short... Read review

Stone Bridge Associated Colleges - My Experience
Review of Distance Learning With Stonebridge Associated Colleges by  carysb

Advantages: Range Of Course, Quick,
Disadvantages: Expensive, Unsure On Validity

...The College Stonebridge Associated Colleges is one of the biggest distance learning colleges in the world which claims to offer over 600 courses worldwide. They are based in Bude, Cornwall, UK but distance learning can be completed either via the postal service or online. Postal tuition comes in the form of text books, paper books put together with enough information to guide you through your chose course in the hope you pass. As with all learning you are expected to source your own external material to assist your learning. This is the method I use. You post your work with a cover sheet and receive a marked response usually 7 days later, though you do not receive the work you sent so it is worth keeping a copy. Each student will be assigned a tutor who marks their work and can be contacted directly via the college should you... Read review

London College of Communication - hmm...
Review of London College of Printing by  bethric

Advantages: Very hip, excellent facilities for each subject area, people on the whole very sociable and friendly
Disadvantages: It's in Elephant & Castle!! Not much of a 'community' feel due to it being in London, terrible Freshers arrangements

...Having just dropped out from LCP (or LCC as it's now known) I'm going to try my best to give an unbiased opinion, and although at first impressions you may not think I'm the best person to write a review having left, bear with me because I do have many good things to say about the college too! Firstly, I want to stress that the college itself was not the reason for me leaving - I was unfortunately put in the dullest and most unfriendly student house this side of the universe, which greatly affected my decision, and after thinking it through the course I had opted to do (B.A. (Hons) Journalism) was not for me and I simply just didn't feel at home in London in general. This doesn't mean it won't be the place for you however! The college is very artsy, not at all like a traditional university, so if a campus uni is what you're after... Read review

South Cheshire College
Review of Cheshire College by  mikey_89

Advantages: Exceptional record for A level results
Disadvantages: Some sports facilities

...The college is just 15 minutes walk from both the bus and train stations so is in easy reach by public transport. It has two main buildings, an 8 story tower block and the smaller Somerville Centre. The tower block is a modern building compared to the older Somerville centre but plans are currently being discussed about completely redeveloping the whole site. The buildings are very well equipped with excellent facilities, including 4 separate computer rooms for self study in the main builiding alone. One downside however is the quality of the sports facilities. There are sports pitches for football and rugby of decent quality but beyond that there is little to shout about. The indoor sportshall is not used to its full potential and the outdoor basketball courts definitely need updating. There is an adequate gym which provides... Read review

Queen Mary College study fun graduate enjoy
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by  imi5050

Advantages: Social Life, Clubs and Societies are great.
Disadvantages: London can be expensive, you have been warned.

...Queen Mary and Westfield College is part of the federal University of London. It is located just a mile away east of London. Hence it is located in a place called Mile End. Situated by the side, is the Regents Canal. The college achieved the 1994 Queens Export Award, for achievements. The college offers excellent facilities, including the impressive Queens Main Library. The college offers a vast array of courses. From medicine to Law, hence the college has a broad range of offerings. I studied for 5 years at Queen Mary and loved it. From entering at Foundation level, I began my bachelors in Chemistry with Business Studies. I achieved my 2:1 and then chose to study for a Masters in Information Technology. Queen Mary, has been voted to be the most friendliest, University of London. The college is set on one big campus... Read review
