hated our first hotel - loved EXPO
Review of Expo Hotel Valencia, Valencia by
lailia05
Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: a popular hotel for school trips
...We arrived in Valencia and we unexpectedly booked ourself a hotel in a bad location. We phoned up our travel agent and explained that we wanted to move to a better location within the same price range. They arranged the EXPO hotel for us within 1 day and when we arrived we were relieved. The location for us was perfect. There was a shopping centre right next to the hotel so shopping was close by and once we managed to work out our map we realised we could walk to most locations in the centre, such as the train station from the EXPO. Walking however was not necessary as there were bus stops right outside our hotel that went to most locations including the Main beach and a metro line was also just around the corner. Our room was perfect for the price we paid (£250 each for two weeks) it had all amentities that you would expect...

Want to Live in Malaysia?
Review of Expat Expo, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by
stravaig
Advantages: Modern facilities, conveniently located, friendly people, lots to do
Disadvantages: None
...We were in Kuala Lumpur, commonly known as KL, sitting in an Irish pub (for a change!) when we spotted a copy of "The Expat" magazine. Having expat-related business ventures ourselves, although not Malaysia-based, naturally we were interested to read this glossy magazine - it turned out to be an excellent publication - and discovered that there was to be an Expat Expo in the nearby Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on 29 and 30 September 2007.
Well, we were in KL on holiday, had no business materials with us, and no smart clothes. But we decided to go and have a look anyway, as we're always interested in expat-related things. It was well worth while.
This was the first Expat Expo organised by "The Expat", but the general consensus among the attendees seemed to be that they hoped it would become an annual event. Certainly...

Expo2000 - Not what I expected
Review of Hannover (Germany) by
TheChocolateLady
Advantages: Good way to spend your money, Not too crowded
Disadvantages: Expensive, many unimpressive exhibits, internal transportation inadequate
...Way back in 1967 when I was at the tender age of 10, my family went to Montreal for a vacation and we spent most of our time at Expo '67. That was one vacation I'll never forget. So, despite some of the negative reviews I'd read about Expo2000, when I got the chance to go to Germany recently, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Unfortunately, I wasn't all that pleased with what I found there.
Granted, I was comparing Expo2000 (under the cynical eye of an adult) to Expo '67 (which I experienced with a child's innocence) and perhaps this clouded my opinion. Still, my own 15 year old son seemed to reinforce what I was feeling.
What struck me first was the large "hanger" type buildings where the smaller countries had their exhibitions. These were sterile on the outside and gave no indication to what was within. Since these were...

Expo 2000 - Hannover Shines
Review of Hannover (Germany) by
Vistaway
Advantages: A not-to-be-missed event.
Disadvantages: Too massive to see it all
...Hannover is hosting Expo 2000 from June until October, and has made this small, attractive city a 'must visit' for anyone visiting Germany this year. The Expo is being held in the existing Messe (fairgrounds) on the outskirts of the city, easily reached by train, tram, bus, bike, or car.
We chose to take the train to Hannover, and stayed at Hotel Atlanta, a great hotel in a quiet side-street near the train station. Admission to the Expo is not cheap at 69DM a day, but includes all public transportation, so arriving is simple. The grounds are open from 9am until midnight, with the pavilions open until 9:30. It would be impossible to go into any real detail of what to expect, as the Expo is incredibly huge. Anyone who has not visited a world's fair before will be shocked at the sheer size and scope. Nearly all of the world...

Nice Hotel, Great Price.
Review of Expo Hotel Valencia, Valencia by
anthuk81
Advantages: Clean, Friendly, Ideally Located, With A Nice Roof Top Pool & Lounging Area
Disadvantages: Rooms Pretty Basic, Not Much Going On Inside
...After visiting Barcelona for a few days, me and my friend caught a train to Valencia and stayed in the expo and was plesantly suprised.
Its location was excellent it was literally around the corner from the tube station, and was within throwing distance of the main shopping centre which was full of restaraunts and shops!
Compared to the hotel we stayed in at Barcelona, this was not as stylish nor as posh but with its price it was def nice, clean, and fabulously located with easy access to the transport links. It did take a few minutes to get into our room mind as the door was stuck but after a bit of tough love we got in, reported it and it was sorted quickly! After a few hours we decided to catch the tram to the beach, and found the stop about 10 minutes walk away although finding it was a bit of a challenge as it seemed...

A knock-on effect of Expo 98
Review of Lisbon (LIS) by
Morgenhund
Advantages: modern, good transport infrastructure
Disadvantages: airport bus service only runs until 9pm
...Lisbon airport, a mere 7 km from the centre of Lisbon has been recently rebuilt, partially to coincide with the 1998 Expo, and also because before that it badly needed it. Now there is a very modern terminal building, with excellent connecting infrastructure (didn’t imagine myself saying that in relation to Portugal!) and altogether it is a very pleasant experience. Many Brits fly into Portugal via Faro, so may not be that familiar with Lisbon, but its airport is certainly worthy of praise.
Firstly there minimum check-in times are shorter than in a lot of airports in mainland European. For internal flights you can check in half an hour before departure, for flights for Madeira and the Azores, which of course both belong to Portugal, the minimum check-in time is 45 minutes in advance, and for other European destinations...

University Essay - Teaching ICT in schools
Review of Everything that starts with U ... by
ilusvm
Advantages: i found it interesting to write and research
Disadvantages: you may fall asleep from boredom if it doesnt interest you!
....
The development of digital technologies is emerging at a rapid pace, with both hardware and software continuously changing and being updated. This has a significant impact on how 'ICT' is to be taught in schools as technologies that pupils use one year have the potential to change dramatically by the next. The National Curriculum states that the teaching of ICT 'prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technology.' (DfEE, 1999, P.14).
'During the 1980's and 1990's computers arrived in schools' (Ager, 2003, p.2) Since then a wide variety of digital technologies have also been introduced into schools with the intention of aiding learning. These technologies have included; interactive whiteboards, digital cameras, PDA's, scanners...

'Astonishing Atomium' claim somewhat unfounded
Review of Atomium, Brussels by
psrose78
Advantages: great looking building, huge potential...
Disadvantages: ...which sadly is not being realised
...easy to recognise. The building is in the shape of an atom (by appearance only of course, the size is of an atom magnified approximately 165 billion times), with 9 spheres interconnected by tubes, and stands 335 feet high.
Brief History
-------------
The Atomium was designed by Andre Waterkeyn (a chartered engineer) for the International Exhibition of Brussels 1958 – more commonly known as Expo 58. The Expo was held from April 17 to October 19, and more than 42 million visitors attended. This huge figure was no doubt helped by the fact that it was the first major exposition after the war. To put it into perspective, the Millennium Dome received about 6.5 million visitors in the 12 months it was open, meaning the Expo had about 6.5 times the amount of visitors in about half the time.
It is made entirely of steel, clad...

What time is it? Hong Kong time!!
Review of General: Hong Kong by
ukusa
Advantages: Great Bargins, Most speak English, Spectacular views
Disadvantages: Rude people on the streets!!!
...and Kowloon have fantastic malls and shopping centres. We literally spent an entire day in Kowloon going from one mall to the next doing shopping. Way too much! However, the prices were amazing and it was enjoyable seeing products that were a little different. We really didn't buy anything major in Hong Kong. However, the prices are good if you are looking for good deals on electronics!
~Expos~
Hong Kong seems to be the Expo King. While there we went to 2. We went to a Baby Expo and I saw lots of things I wanted and bought a load of other name brand clothes and toys! I now wish I had bought the pram I liked and had it shipped home as it was only 1/3 the price it is here in the UK. We also went to the 40th annual Products Expo in Victoria Park. This is like 600 infomercials all happening at one time!!! The people of Hong Kong went...
