The Black Forest, A place of dreams
Review of Black Forest (Germany) by
Dark-Cloudz
Advantages: Excellent hill walking, Low Key Ski resort in the winter
Disadvantages: None! well, its a bit isloated.... but that's good right?
...Well to start of i'll get it out of my system... im a quater german, that hails from the black forest town of Triberg (held the Ice skating winter olypics back in the 20's!). But being embarassed of my heritage is something I am most ceratinly NOT. The Black Forest is a Wonderful Place to go on holiday for the young and old alike. There's something to do for everyone.
During the summer the blackforest is made up of rolling hills, beautiful fields of flowers and some of the most breathtaking scenary in the whole of Europe. It is EXCELLENT hill walking territory, with the guest houses FULL to the brim during the summer months. Excellent places to go include the town of Schonwald, which translates into 'Beautiful valley' which has an amazing view coupled with some of the best restaurants in the black forest.
The black Forest...

Monkey Forest is Fantastic
Review of Trentham Monkey Forest by
blondgem
Advantages: Different every time you visit, good for kids
Disadvantages: Uphill, not suitable for people with walking difficulties or wheelchairs
.... The guide regularly do talks at mealtimes and give you guidance on the history of this particular species on monkey, raising the public awareness of how to protect them and how to create and preserve the species by increasing the population of theese particular monkeys. Over 600 of this particular species have already been introduced back into the Atlas mountains of Morocco as their natural habitat. There are numerous information panels in and around the parks that give you questions and a box to open to find the answers.
The forest is very hilly and unfortunately I could not recommend to anyone with particular walking difficulties as there are a lot of steep banks around the forest. Make sure you wear flat shoes as I had heels on and had to having piggy backs down the hills.. haha..
On average you can spend a good half a day at the forest...

Magical forests
Review of The Forest of Dean by
wellibelli
Advantages: idyllic, beautiful......plenty of woodland!!!
Disadvantages: quiet for those party people!!!
...planted over 11,000 acres. Thank you Lord Nelson!!! Obviously there was still a high demand for the timber so from then on there were carefull planting and felling programmes which have kept our glorious forest for us to enjoy today. Anyway there is a "brief" overview for you!!!
****THE VILLAGES AND TOWNS****
1 - The "Royal Ancient Forest"
Coleford - Situated in the middle of the Forest, coleford is a small market town, comprising of the few essential shops expected in a town, Bells hotel and golf course, plenty of takeaways, banks, and on the outskirts forest hills golf course.
Cinderford - again another main forest town, and again another market town. Cinderford is slightly bigger than coleford, therefore has more shops and services. No golf courses here though!!! Cinderford along with coleford lies in the heart of the forests beauty...

Review of Mysore (India) by
kishthedoc
Advantages: Friendly people, salubrious climate, Gr8 destination
Disadvantages: lack of infrastructure,
...Bandipura national park is part of the nilgiri biosphere reserve that spreads over 872 sq kms spanning three states i.e Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Bandipura ,situated at the foot hills of nilgiri mountains is part of Karnataka. It is at a distance of 230 kms from Banglaore and 80 kms from Mysore. It is well connected by road.
It is a part of PROJECT TIGER and is home to variety of flora and fauna including the famed tiger. It is spread over expansive forest cover that is home to Tiger, Elephants, Bison, Leopard,Sloth bear, Peacock, Deer etc. I was fortunate enough to sight a tiger and its cubs on my first visit to Bandipur.

The Lakes
Review of Chittagong Hill Tracts (Bangladesh) by
Taz101
Advantages: place for relaxation
Disadvantages:
...Chittagong
Chittagong, the second largest city of Bangladesh and a busy seaport, is a good vacation spot. Its green hills, forests and sea-beaches attract holiday makers. Described by the famous Chinese traveller Hiuan Tsang (7th century AD) as "a sleeping beauty emerging from mist and water" and given the nickname of Porto Grande by the 16th century Portuguese seafarers, Chittagong remains true to both descriptions even today.
Many of the heavy, medium and light industries are located here. These include jute, cotton, textile, automobile, fertilizer, engineering, chemical, tobacco, timber and tannery industries. The country's only steel mill and oil refinery are also located here.
Places of interest in and around Chittagong include shrines of a dozen Muslim saints including Hazrat Byazid Bostami, Shahi Jame Mosque, Chandpura...

Ubud and the Sacred Monkey Forest
Review of Ubud (Bali) by
KAJung
Advantages: Inexpensive and Diverse, with a Great Monkey Forest and Temples
Disadvantages: Very Touristy
..., with rice paddies decorating the slopes of the hills.
Ubud is the arts and crafts capital of Bali, so in addition to tourist wares, there are a number of different galleries and museums to visit. The city is home to one of the four styles of Balinese painting (Ubud Style), which is very modern and abstract. However, a twenty minute drive from Ubud takes one to the traditional village of Keliki, another seat of Balinese art, where more traditional paintings can be found and bought in the village Brahmin's house.
My husband and I did some shopping while in Ubud (it was a wonderful place to find presents!), and we also went to the Sacred Monkey Forest, which was one of my favourite places we visited during our four-week stay in Bali. It is very accessible, within walking distance of most hotels in downtown Ubud, and easy to visit with a car...

The Roof of Aberdeenshire
Review of Bennachie (Scotland) by
Aspen
Advantages: Scenery, walking opportunities, history, wildlife.
Disadvantages: Only very basic visitor facilities, a bit remote.
...The attractive but flat agricultural landscape of North East Scotland is hardly noted for hill-walking. At least, not until you venture far enough west to reach the foothills of the Cairngorms.
This perhaps explains why the one hill of substance in the area, Bennachie, is held in such reverence locally. To climb Bennachie is to stand on the roof of Aberdeenshire; to experience a lesson in the area’s natural history; and to step back in time through Scotland’s history. Not a bad prospect for an afternoon out!
The Bennachie range probably once topped 4000 feet, but glacial activity over the last million years or so has reduced the highest peak, Oxen Craig, to a modest 1733 feet. After the last ice melted, about 10000 years ago, the range was progressively colonised by vegetation until, in common with much of Scotland...

The Sun Rise
Review of Cox´s Bazar (Bangladesh) by
Taz101
Advantages: White Sand beach, clear water
Disadvantages: getting there by transport, roads
...152 kilometres from Chittagong by road and twenty minutes by air is Cox's Bazar- beach-combers'paradise- having the world's longest (1 20 kms) stretch of beach sloping gently into the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. A chain of green hills covered by deep reserve forests serve as picturesque background to the beach. The range of hills runs parallel to the beach for about 96 kms. At low tide, a jeep can drive on the sand for quite a distance. The wide beach is endowed with silvery-golden sand. The sea is good for bathing and swimming as it is free from sharks.
As the sun rises over the low hills, the beach at Himchari, Inani and other points are transformed into a fascinating panorama. At Inani, the beach is as wide as 182 metres at high tide and 304 metres at low tide. Himchari, only eighteen kilometres from Cox's Bazar, is yet...

Work In Progress
Review of Fiction by
DavidJWest
Advantages: Modesty prevents me from saying.........
Disadvantages: Not finished
...north they spread out to cover as wide an area as possible as they ran silently at a brisk jog, expertly dodging trees and branches as they went. Each tracker was just close enough to his neighbour to be able to keep in touch using a combination of fake bird calls which would fool all but other of their race. Slowly but surely the trees began to thin out and the undergrowth became less.
In this fashion they reached the edge of the forest and sank down on the ground at the eave of the forest in desolation. The Xavians had beaten them in the race and could be seen about 300 yards ahead on the brow of a small hill.
"How could they be ahead of us?" Tol Brinnen uttered, his mouth open at the sight of the dozen or so Xarvian warriors resting, not yet aware of their presence.
"Look!" Pointed Frith, at the moist ground a few yards from where...

MY ALL YEAR ROUND HOLIDAY DESTINATION.
Review of Guerledan Lake Area by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: A wonderful opportunity to enjoy peace and tranquility.
Disadvantages: Perhaps not wild enough for those wishing for night life.
...one that never forgets the roots of what it offers, nor the importance of respecting the very nature that makes it so outstandingly beautiful.
A quick stop off at the Abbey of Bon Repos, a coffee or a picnic beside the canal, a boat trip with the family into a place where you can imagine yourself so far from today's modern civilisation. It's all there, waiting for you and it still amazes me as the mists lift in the valleys surrounding the lake, looking down from the hill and watching the magical coming of another day. Are there Korrigans, or little Faerie folk within the mystery of the Forest ? Who knows. I have seen their fairy rings of mushrooms, and made wishes, and am sure they were watching me. A snap of a branch, the movement of a leaf. Perhaps, though I shall never know.
Rachel...
