Bouffant is not as funny as Lisette but does have his moments and Eveline played by Lucy Punch, Madame de Plonges daughter, does a good job playing the innocent young adult being brought up to learn the ways of the court and usually getting it wrong. I watched this on a rental dvd which had the complete series but had included no special features, just the episode listing. I think if you are a French and Saunders fan then this is definately for you. If you are not a French and Saunders fan then I think you could probably watch this and still be entertained but it may not be something to buy. ..."Slap her…She's French" It sounds like a film about xenophobes and bigots, but in fact, it ain't really that bad. I recently signed up to Blockbuster online DVD rental, and this was one of the first titles to come through (yes, expect many more film reviews as my membership progresses!). It wasn't one of my first choices but having heard things about it (mainly "it's crap"), I decided to see for myself, and I expect this came first as the more well known titles on my list were all out at the time! ***Plot*** The film is about an all-American trashy pageant queen, bitchy Starla Grady, she is rich and popular, but also white trash. ...As a French tutor, I was interested in seeing whether this DVD would prove to be a useful alternative to the various textbook/CD language packs that are available. I can see that a student of French would find plenty of useful sentences and phrases that can be learned while relaxing on the sofa in front of the TV (as opposed to having to sit in front of a computer screen with a CD-rom perhaps). I was, however, disappointed that the product does not take advantage of the interactive possibilities of a DVD. Moreover, the only illustrations were still photographs introducing each different topic. Basically, you see a sentence in English (in white on a black background) which is read out by a native English speaker. The equivalent sentence appears below it in French, and this is then read out twice by a native French speaker... Read review

...with this is that is has been completely dubbed out of French. This isn't as bad as it sounds - the speech makes sense - but it can come in a bit late sometimes, and it might confuse younger children. This film is very suitable for young children - there is no death, only people getting knocked over and the like. There is a disappointing lack of special features on the DVD. With only a trailer, this movie deserves better. All in all, this DVD is well worth getting - it wasn't a major box-office hit and the DVD goes very cheaply.
