...I first saw Hotel du Nord as part of a double bill with a film by Jean Renoir (I forget which - though I think the brilliant Le Crime De Monsieur Lange) and I was frankly going to see the Renoir film and thought, hmmm, I'll just have to sit through Hotel du Nord and grin and bear it. Something about the film just really didn't appeal. Then right from the opening shot that tracks down from the bridge over the canal Saint Martin and along the side of the canal to where the two lovers, played by Annabella and Jean-Pierre Aumont, settle against one another on a bench, despairing and apparently doomed I simply didn't look back. I couldn't. Since that Sunday afternoon I have always had something of a soft spot for Hotel du Nord. It is firmly placed in the traditional of French cinema of the thirties. Advantages: Very Fast

...the train leaves and after about 10 minutes of going at a relaxed pace through the south london suburbs it turns onto the CTRL (Channel Tunnel Rail Link) and whooshes through Kent. My train wasnt stopping at Ashford so it was straight to the Channel Tunnel I got a sandwhich before the tunnel from the buffet which is bit sparse. Instead they should have a proper dining car. In the tunnel all the carriges are locked so you cant go to the buffet. The actual ride through the tunnel took about half an hour and France seemed a refreshing change from Britain when the train got out. After that all you had to do was wait. After a while we stopped in Lille for a short time and a few people got off. Then the train proceeded to Paris, when you arrive there are no formalities whatsoever you just go. ...I have stayed at the Hotel Aris Nord in Paris on a number of occasions. Whilst it is not a luxurious hotel it is functional, friendly and reasonable and I would highly recommend it. Location It is ideally located for Eurostar trips to Paris being about 5 minutes walk from the Gare du Nord. It is also 5 minutes walk away from Gare du L'est so is in easy reach of the Metro and mainline. The Rue du Fauborg is an exciting street (although quiet enough to sleep). It has many bars / restaurants along it. Due to this being an ethnic quarter of Paris there are many Indian / Albanian and other ethnic restaurants. Of course there are also the traditional french bars and brasseries selling steak, chips, red wine and beer. ...HOTEL LIBERTEL TERMINUS NORD. Last week, I was sent to Paris for a course (yes, I am lucky sometimes). We had to stay overnight, so a hotel was booked. It was just opposite the station, Gare du Nord, where we arrived with the Eurostar ( pub cue: here you could read my op about, ding dong). So very convenient. The building and decoration are beautiful, in a Victorian style. There are 237 rooms well sized. Mine had 2 different areas : bedroom with 2 single bed together(?), side tables, cable TV, wardrobe and dressing table. There was a separate lounge with 2 armchairs, coffee table, desk and chair, mini-bar and a second wardrobe. It included all the usual commodities: coffee/tea facilities, toiletries, hairdryer, safe, telephone, double-glazing (centre of Paris, but you could not hear a fly). The bathroom was well lit... Advantages: Paris is a very beautiful place to visit
Disadvantages: Just pay attention when taking the underground it can be scary sometimes

...City of many attractions, Paris is the place to visit at anytime of the year without previous notice, just go and you will be always welcome. Voila! Choice is one thing that you have 24/7 in Paris; you can literally pick and choose whatever you like whatever is your budget. I choose to travel by Eurostar that was a fantastic trip from Ashford International - Kent to Gare Du Nord, the only thing I really booked in anticipation was the Eurostar the rest I just went and let it happened. Arriving in Gare Du Nord I just crossed the road and I was looking for Hotel and I found a very simple one but absolutely clean with air-conditioned, shower, etc…the name of the Hotel is Nord-Hotel. Good Morning! Coffee? Milk? Croissant? Very nice breakfast. Off to go! I went straight to the train station Gare Du Nord to get some information... Read review

Advantages: Quick, Easy and Oh So Comfortable In First Class!
Disadvantages: Trains Are Getting On A Bit, Not As Romantic As The Ferry, Queues At Paris End.

...Ah, the Eurostar, the last word in state of the art travel within Europe. The Boyfriend telephoned his little brother living in a remote part of Spain and explained that we would be travelling to Paris on a high speed train which would, via a tunnel under the sea, deliver us in luxury from London Waterloo to the Gare Du Nord in Paris. After something of a pause his little brother said sweetly “Yeah…. I don’t believe you.” And, even now that we in the UK can reminisce about that night on the news when all the French and English engineers met in that dusty tunnel under the sea, refer to ‘taking the chunnel’ and expect it to be part of holiday packages and business trips, the whole thing is quite remarkable. ...is approximately 20 mins. The rest of the time is spent looking at the country side. If you were to come by plane, you would probably arrive at the Charles de Gaulle airport, and then would travel by 'route B' suburban railway (RER) which takes you all the way through Paris so makes transfer onto a metro line for your hotel very easy. **** Gare du Nord and the Metropolitain (Metro) **** The Eurostar arrives into the heart of Paris at the Gare du Nord, having taken the traveller through the suburbs which at times look very run down. Suburban individual housing is left behind and the sky line is taken over with tenement blocks and graffiti. (Note: On my journey home, I was reminded of an exhibition in the Pompidou Centre which I had seen earlier in the day where there were 'Architecture de l'Aujourd hui' journals on view with late 1940's...
